Change.org

We, the undersigned residents of the neighborhood surrounding 53rd Ave between Bell Blvd and 188th Street, wish to express our deep concern and opposition to the implementation of the proposed bike lanes in our area. Our concerns stem from the following points:

 1. Removal of Street Parking: The proposed bike lanes threaten to remove much-needed street parking, severely inconveniencing residents and visitors alike.
 2. Safety Concerns: The sudden changes could inadvertently draw the attention of car vandals and thieves, posing a threat to the safety, peace, and tranquility that our beloved neighborhood has enjoyed for years.
 3. Lack of Transparency: The city did not adequately inform or involve the residents before making decisions that have significant implications for our lives. Many of us were left blindsided by the sudden erection of “No Stopping Anytime” signs, causing distress and confusion.
 4. Community Feedback: At the recent Community Board 11 meeting, it was evident that a majority of residents either oppose the new bike lanes or desire a plan that better accommodates the parking needs of the community.

Given the above concerns, we urge the city officials and the Department of Transportation to:

 • Reevaluate the Decision: Consider alternative routes or modifications that would not disrupt the tranquility and parking of our neighborhood.
 • Increase Transparency and Engagement: Proactively communicate with residents, ensuring that we are part of the decision-making process. We deserve a say in decisions that directly impact our lives and community.
 • Hybrid Meeting Options: Implement hybrid meeting options and online registration for future Community Board meetings, ensuring accessibility for all residents.

We believe in the significance of our voices and trust that our collective concerns will be given due consideration. Through this petition, we hope to work collaboratively with the city to find solutions that are beneficial to all parties involved.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It always starts with congestion pricing zones and bike lanes.
This is part of the War on private owned automobiles like the socialists did in Amsterdam.
This to force people on to public transportation, electric scooters and bicycles.
(MTA needs more money)
Demorat crazys are also talking about some kind of rope bridges and zip lines over the east river.

Much worse is coming because the city and state is coming for unused rooms and basements in all private homes next! The communists just need a way to go around people rights with ether a tax or rubber stamp of approvals for the 500K or so Illegal and unused basements. However to get that stamp you must agree to take a un-reversible section 8 contract that's attached to the life of the home.

The sheeple have no clue how bad things are gonna get for the private homeowner, anything owned private for that matter.
The stupid can't come up with ideas, good plans themselves so the are copying everything in the law-books of socialist and communist country's in Europe.
---Dont say "its not gonna happen" New York City is being run by pure communists, and a nut job mayor who recently claimed he's the hip-hop Gandhi. Everything, must be shared and open for all.

The Self-Righteous Bike Nazis strike again !
They are often vegan and believe their choice of transportation makes them superior to those who choose to drive cars (and those who drive out of necessity), as well as truckers, public transit drivers and riders, and pedestrians.
I was almost hit by a Bike Nazi in a crosswalk yesterday in Fresh Meadows on 188th Street.
I told him to be more careful and he turned around and started swearing at me. I started walking toward him and he sped off, giving me the finger as he rode away.

Bike Zealots are most likely to be found in dense urban areas, but also foray into the suburbs from time to time.

There are so many things wrong with this "project", which was undertaken without community consultation. They took parking completely away from the north side of the street, so half of the parking spots have disappeared. They are now forcing people, including the elderly, to walk across two lanes of traffic on a very busy street, as well at least one bike lane, to get to their residence, putting their lives at risk. The parking on the south side of the street is outside the bike lane (i.e., the bike lane is along the curb), which means that traffic must either stop while someone parallel parks, or the traffic will cross over the yellow line into oncoming traffic to avoid the car that is parking - thus, congestion or a potential head-on collision.

Technically, probably could have just had one slightly wider bike lane for traffic in two directions, and kept the parking on both sides of the street.

Vote with your feet and move to the actual suburbs. Then some Ohio transplant who doesn't file taxes as a NYC resident can move right in.

@"Bike lanes where nobody wants hem except that vocal minority of wankers."

I understand your anger. Before you left Ireland all those years ago, all you had to get around was a bicycle. After years of living the immigrant life here in the USA, wallowing in your alcohol fueled hate, you still harbor that guilt over your old high Nelly. Now Ireland has moved on and become a more progressive society, you can't handle that either.
You're surrounded by progressives, in your old country and now your current land. You've got nowhere to go.
My advice to you is 1. Give up the booze. 2. Get some help.

I see a lot of green lawns there. Lots of green areas in Fresh Meadows. Pour concrete over the lot and park there. Problem solved.

No you don't, not at all, you have no fucking clue. My anger towards you and your ilk, approach the temperature of the core of the sun. You fuckers are useless and always have been,

If you didn't have TDS you might know that consumers set the price of oil on the open market, and that Biden has cut oil production in the US by almost 40% and that reduced supply is increasing the price. But you do and you don't.

Yep, thats why we have so much free car storage on every street.

It is impossible to figure out all the shapes that have been painted on 53rd avenue, especially by ps 162.

The bike lane is along the curb so school busses are in the middle and kids have to cross the bike lane to get to the sidewalk. Very dangerous. 201 street is one way and with cars parked away from the curb it is very dangerous now to turn right without going over the middle yellow line. Trucks can’t turn without going into oncoming traffic. Traffic backs up at every turn since cars can’t go around, spewing exhaust fumes. And for some reason there are circles and ovals and lines covering the crosswalks and extending into the intersection. Of course the bike lane ends where 53rd narrows towards bell blvd so what was the point of having a bike lane.

And to think my kids, and decades of other kids managed to ride their bikes safely without these dangerous bike lanes. Only when adults started to bike did we need the stupidity of painted lines.

NYC Sheeple this is specifically what you voted for. Enjoy!

Whers is all this "Free" car storage ?

This authoritarian crap is EXACTLY part of the quality of life reasons we left beloved Bayside and bought a place in near by Nassau. No 25 mph speed limit, no bike lane bs, no red light cameras, no dictatorial anti car crap. This isn’t Amsterdam. I drive down Northern every so often, and i think I’ve seen maybe 2 or 3 bicyclists in the many years I’ve been looking at that bike lane before the Cross island on the westbound side. Also, I’m 74. I’m alive and vertical to the floor. I’m a decent driver. I also know that not one of these bike lanes was ever evaluated as part of a traffic study. There’s a crooked contract involved, not any lofty environmental ideals. Making a two way street virtually one way with those bike lanes is downright stupid and dangerous. On the Cross Island, the southbound exit to Northern Blvd westbound is insanely screwed up and drivers who don’t know the area or the poorly designed exit run into the end of the bike lane by 221 St. Eastern Queens isn’t more urban Manhattan or Brooklyn.

At Anonymous Ms Tsouris
I we moved back to Manhasset and see the same thing. Im on Northern near every day and can walk all of Plandome road without hearing one person speaking Spanish.
I also see police enforcement, cops patrolling.

No 25 mph speed limit, no bike lane bs, no red light cameras, no dictatorial anti car bullshit. I cant believe it, no rats at night smooth PAVED MAINTAINED ROADS !
The only thing I don't like right now is all this political billboard for Town of North Hempstead election. That Great Neck Jew Jon Kaiman is one of them, he's back and wants his old job back.
I say "oh no" hope not a democrat majority in town hall again, those bastards ruin everything, democrats relax zoning and rubber stamp demolition of nice old 1 family houses, this in exchange for 4 family hideous Asian boxes. They also actually want at least 1 or two section 8s in those shitboxes in exchange for that instant rubber stamp approval. No public input, neighbor poll, vote--NOTHING!!

Bike lane and camera bullshit.
I think its about revenue and not giving a shit about bus drivers and bicycles.
On Northern blvd between Little Neck parkway and Cross Island Parkway ramps there are now near 7 cameras in a 1/2 mile stretch of Northern.
I never seen one person using that bike lane, these cameras are purely to suck on Long Island people driving to and from work. Im not kidding, near one dam traffic ticket camera on every street corner between Little Neck and Cross Island parkway now.
Driving in NYC has gotten so insane, these new cameras are real small you can not see them. Now being placed in the traffic lights themselves.
I now have obtained and created (for educational use) a custom .CSV file of all these cameras and an alert sound that can be used on Garmin GPS units.
You load the file on to a micro SD card then insert it into the GPS unit. An autobat then executes a copy the file as "Cameras under custom POIs" and sounds.
Reboot the GPS and check box the new "Custom POIs" box that now appears in settings.
Works great for re-using old Garmin NUVIs.
The map date or age of GPS makes no difference, location, the cameras, icons and sound alerts go by live received GPS satellite data not the map!!
