Kathy Hochul became the first woman elected governor of New York on Tuesday after overcoming a tighter-than-expected race and defeating Republican challenger Lee Zeldin.
The Democratic incumbent, buoyed by high voter turnout in New York City, declared victory shortly after 11 p.m. and will now serve a full four-year term in office.
“Tonight you made your voices heard loud and clear and you made me the first woman to ever be elected the governor of the state of New York,” Hochul said to a chorus of cheers at Capitale, a Lower Manhattan event space with Greek-style architecture and a glass ceiling. “But I’m not here to make history, I’m here to make a difference.
“I will lead with strength and compassion not with fear and anger,” she added.
At the time, Hochul was up on Zeldin by 55% to 43%, with just more than half of all votes counted across the state, according to unofficial results from the state Board of Elections. Technical issues prevented results from being tabulated from Suffolk County, Zeldin’s home turf. NBC and ABC called the race before midnight.
Hochul’s win was far from certain even in deep blue New York as she faced off against Zeldin, a Donald Trump-endorsed Long Island congressman whose focus on crime boosted his bid to become the first Republican elected statewide in over two decades.

They like all the drug addicts and homeless people laying on the sidewalks. They want to be charged $23 dollars every time the enter the city. This election was won in NYC, in Astoria, Long Island City, and Manhattan. Look at a vote map almost the entire state is red. What a travesty...

You are correct and this "congestion pricing" garbage is so stupid, it's beyond insane. They REALLY THINK that 23 dollars to drive through certain streets is automatically going to make people disappear? What do they REALLY think Is going to happen? If someone really wanted to go through Manhattan and not have to pay, they will just cause more traffic on the streets cutting through other neighborhoods of Manhattan just to avoid the fare. They can easily just cut through uptown or downtown to get into mid Manhattan. All they are doing is causing even MORE traffic which means MORE fuels will be let out because there will be more idling sitting through traffic with the engine running. So if they REALLY wanted to help climate change, they should actually be trying to build bridges more bridges to be honest to connect to the mainland. Especially one that goes from long island to Connecticut so that way trucks won't have to go through 2 boroughs just to get to long Island from New England. All of the ideas that the dems have on "how to fight climate change " is just so stupid, it's ridiculous. They also think electric cars are going to save us when California can't even keep the lights on. And what do they think we use to generate electricity? Coal. Soon it'll look like China with all the smog from burning so much coal. And then they really think mining the earth more for natural resources to build bigger batteries and more batteries is actually good for the earth? Its really not and we don't even have enough lithium to build all these batteries as it is. They are really just killing everything instead of helping.

Developers deliberately fuel the extreme housing cycles to their benefit, they roll up properties cheap, build with cheap recession labor and sell sky high (more ways that one) once recovered.
