A more equitable and rational Citibike expansion proposal for Queens

Juniper Park Civic

The Citibike expansion to Queens got a good do over by Juniper Park Civic. Taking DOT's original proposals which would've usurped street curb spaces from residential and commercial parking (spitefully in my opinion) onto ample sidewalk spaces nearby them instead.

Let's see how Transportation Alternatives responds...

Xenophobia is okay in DemOrat Cities so long as you hate the right people.

Do any of the clueless asswipes at DOT/TA actually go out and survey these proposed locations or do they do a google earth survey? Some of the proposals are insane. But might help with "Natural Selection" by thinning out the herd... Imagine a city with fewer bicycle advocates!

Having the bike stations in the street will provide the added benefit of daylighting crosswalks. When cars are parked right up to the stop sign sometimes it's impossible to see whether cars are coming. Very dangerous. The bike stations will increase visibility and make it safer for everyone.

But won't they start crying that only rich white people use the Citibikes?

The young white guys are the major user of Citibikes constitute a tiny number of city and disrupt the communities of people of color.

No one 'notices'. Why is something so simple beneath the official radar of prickly racial, ethnic, and class sensiblities? Explanation is quite simple: bikes cut down on pollution. Less pollution opens the door to more developers.

The bike nuts are stooges of developers and the politicians they pay for who pass these innane bike laws.

I wish car owners put so much thought into where they store their vehicles.

Cute but unlikely to change the way this implemented. 4-5 of the changes make sense by pedestrian plazas but other than that the DOT plan was fine. Looking forward to riding these this summer!

No. The local car totalitarian Karens will be crying about bikes taking up their free car storage

Rational, equitable? Hasn't anyone noticed that bicycle advocates are insane?

Try as you might, New York; white guys will not relocate to NYC in mass anytime soon!

Really weird how the previous article is the city complaining that the people using the ferries are too white at 66%, yet they don't complain that nearly 100% of Citibike users are wealthy white hipsters and tourists. I wonder if there's some ulterior motive for that.
