Mayor Adams ordered his administration Sunday to move ahead with implementing a controversial new Medicare plan for retired city workers, angering some retirees who have for months contended it could water down their benefits.
The Medicare Advantage Plus plan, first unveiled by former Mayor Bill de Blasio last fall as a cost-saving alternative to the city’s current retiree coverage, will maintain “premium-free” insurance for the roughly 250,000 ex-municipal workers who stand to benefit, Adams said in a statement.
“That is why after a careful and thorough review by my administration, I am announcing my support for this plan,” he said. “I believe the new program will be in the best interest of retirees and the city’s taxpayers, who stand to save $600 million annually.”
At the same time, Adams said he feels for those retirees who have expressed fear that the new plan could curtail access to certain care.
“As a blue-collar mayor and someone who himself will collect municipal retiree benefits, I am sympathetic to those who have voiced concerns about how this plan will affect their coverage,” said Adams, a retired NYPD captain. “Our administration will continue to work to assuage these concerns before and after the plan is implemented.”

As is typical, the thoroughly corrupt UFT sold out its teachers. The new plan limits access to certain healthcare, requires payment of a co-pay, and otherwise restricts the access to healthcare for the most vulnerable group (of course--bullies always pick the weakest target), the retirees. Adams is no better than the most nefarious of his predecessors, which I absolutely predicted. He is the epitome of "Same ol' s____, different day".
We shouldn't be surprised. A cop is a cop is a cop and always will be. Bike lanes delayed, safe intersections as lip service only, schools, homeless, subways....photo op is over and nothing done. Daily glorification of NYPD, budget cuts for everyone else. Retires? Life time employees that worked under the assumption that they could take their health care with them? This cops can do no wrong attitude will end in the usual abuses soon enough.

Water down their benefits is an understatement. Most these people don't know the worst of what they are getting.
This is clinic care with the Medicaid people and its not free. Now Medicare will take your estate under New York State new Medicais/Medicare Estate recovery (MERP)when your will gets processed through the probate court at death. It also freezes & taps the IRA from beneficiary's at death. Meaning bye bye to leaving any inheritance for the average person. One may as toss your last will and testament down the toilet.

Unless your are pregnant every time they need a doctor it will take 3 months to get in appointment emergency or not. Then you sit in the clinic with all the illegals, welfare people with screaming kids in one of the 150 or so chairs waiting for hours.
You then see not an actual doctor but a physicians aid, then wait again wile the physicians aid (intern) goes into another room to get in cue to video conference with an actual doctor. 1/2 hour later the physicians aid then comes back into the room to talk to you.
Talk about being in some kind of hell !!
Last if you need meds they better be available in generic and cheap.

See dummy, the thing is, these systems already exist. And right-wing nuts (you know, people who work for a living) are FORCED to dump countless thousands of dollars into these systems over the course of their working life. So they want it back, in some form or other.
Now these systems shouldn't exist at all. Social Security is a literal ponzi scheme -- it fits the definition perfectly. Medicare is stupid and wasteful, as is our entire medical system, a system so totally corrupt and rotten that there's no curing it (ha ha). But it worked just fine before government got involved.
Unions used to provide some decent benefits to working men, and some still do. But they are mostly corrupt. And the largest unions -- teachers, government workers -- are unions that shouldn't even be allowed to exist, and are 100% corrupt and useless.
