Mayor Adams slammed his own police department Wednesday for engaging in “all this showy stuff” instead of directing more cops to the neighborhoods that need them the most.
He also revealed he’s still undecided on whether he’ll order a cost savings regimen for the NYPD — and suggested his decision would depend on the department’s ability to more efficiently and effectively deploy cops.
“Here’s my problem with the NYPD,” he said. “You hired … a police officer to be on patrol to go after the bad guys — that was why you hired him. He should not be sitting in the license division. His dangerous day should not be a paper cut. He needs to be on patrol.”
Last week, Adams announced plans to slash city spending by 3%, but he included the caveat that some agencies would be exempt from such cuts, like the Health Department and the city’s network of public hospitals.
On Wednesday, he was asked if the NYPD would get similar treatment. Adams responded that it all depends.
He vowed to begin “using my technology” to perform an analysis of how NYPD resources are allocated — but noted that he’s already witnessed firsthand what he views to be waste.
NYPD staffing of parades is one place he suggested he has his sights on.
“I’m sure you have gone to a parade, and you walk down the block, and you saw ten officers just standing there. And I bet you they’re all on overtime, and you’re saying, ‘Why are they all here for the Steuben Parade?” he said. “Why aren’t you on patrol somewhere?”
He then pointed to his own official events as well.
“I told the chief of department the other day. I’ll go to a school or do a visit in the community. When I get there, I have ten police officers standing there to show me that, ‘Hey Mr. Mayor, we’re here.’ I don’t need you here! I need you on patrol!” he said. “Give me one cop right out front. It’s a wrap. I don’t want to see all of this display of police presence. No — you want to impress me — have that display in Brownsville. Have that display in Harlem. Go to the communities that need you to be there.”

How interesting to mention the License Division. However many officers they have there, they don't seem to get much done. They don't answer phones or emails. I've been waiting for my renewal since AUGUST. For such lazy-butts, let's at least be thankful they aren't asked to do real police work.

Deny all services to illegals. There's your 3% cut and way more.
Second, eliminate 50% of the Dept of Education non-classroom staff. Just randomly fire half of them. Nobody will ever notice. Then fire about 20% of the teachers. Classrooms could be larger with no ill effect.
Begin eliminating multiple departments that provide duplicate services already supplied by BOTH the state and the Federal government.
Shut down the NYC Commission on Human Rights. Why in hell does the city need this?
Shut down the Department of Youth & Community Development.
Shut down the Administration for Children's Services.
Shut down the Department of Cultural Affairs.

You can put all the cops in Brownsville and Harlem you want. However if you don't give them the backing and the tools to do their job you might as put cigar store Indians on every corner. When you have a merry go round justice system with DA'S refusing to prosecute criminals and bail reform nothing will change.
Years ago the criminals didn't respect the police but at least they feared them and the court system. There is no such perception these days. The criminals have been so emboldened by the ball less politicians that they challenge the police at every opportunity. So any cop that put their hands on anyone these days risks disciplinary action, lawsuits or worse losing their. Any cop that puts their hands on anyone need to have his head examined.

I stopped caring about New York 6 months ago when I moved to Florida !
I say we need to cut the fat from the nypd, this is true. But we also need to cut fat from the mta and all the other agencies that aren't really needed and are just useless. We also need to start bringing back housing regulations. The more apartment buildings and "two family houses" you allow to be built, the more people in one area. If you can't move here and fit in here properly, then you shouldn't be allowed to move here or immigrate here. There is so much room in the usa and they can find someplace else to live. That would definitely cut the costs on our agencies here. Also, in some countries, if you are homeless, they will house you but it might be on the other side of the country. So I vote we do that here too. Ship the homeless out back to their home states or countries. Also, bring back the death penalty as well and the draft. This will solve some of the crime problems and our immigration problems. But no, this doesn't fit in with the "woke" agenda.
