MTA officials will be required to plan for and encourage bicycle and pedestrian access on its bridges and trains, according to legislation signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday.
The new law mandates officials “develop a strategic action plan to improve bicycle and pedestrian access at bridges, stations and other facilities operated by the authority,” and requires bicycle expertise on the MTA’s advisory commuter councils.
“Public transit in New York should be welcoming, safe and accessible for cyclists and pedestrians,” Hochul said in a statement. “I’m proud to sign legislation that will expand access to public transit, no matter how you choose to get around.”
Cycling advocates hope the bill injects some zeal into the MTA’s approach to bike policy. It is currently illegal to pedal over any of the seven MTA bridges within New York City limits, and cyclists who disregard the rules risk getting ticketed by cops.

This is part of the War on Cars fueled by Climate Anxiety !
The Real Deal Prove Me Wrong ...
If they pay the toll all good.
Eric Adams’ Fork is Backwards and so is this plan being pushed for the Bike Nazis by the un-elected Gov.
Big win for the TA shrieking harpies !
Dotty governor granny signs on again to whatever is put in front of her by her woke-Nazi staffers. The woman isn’t qualified to run a flower shop yet here she is, further wrecking NYS one stupid decision after another.
Will the cyclists have to pay the toll on the bridges?
And if a lane is closed for the bikers will the tolls for cars and trucks go up to pay for the loss of a lane?
No to the first question and yes to the second.
Knowing where your bread is buttered.
More idiocy. Will they take a lane off the Bronx-bound or Queens-bound side of the Throgs Neck Bridge?
Excellent news.
Who cares what the oversized SUV/Pickup truck authoritarians think.
NYC bike zealots to save the day! They will offset the pollution of India and China!
INSANE
How is this a priority:
1. during a pandemic?
2. when public transportation (subways) are currently unsafe for anyone to use?
3. when the pandemic funds given to NYC are drying up quickly.
Who is going to pay for this nonsense?
There are many more important things our leaders need to tend to at the moment.
To start, our aging infrastructure is crumbling and needs to be rebuilt.
Using the bridges to "Fish" for votes. What a pitiful slug she is...
And put bikes where ?
These bridges are falling down and one lane in each direction us usually perpetually closed for some kind of work crew shit and parking for those crews and equipment.
Now put Bikes on highway's (yes the big bridges are highways) with cars & trucks going 45, 55, 65 MPH?
Is she friggan nuts ?
If the NPC Doofus and assorted right wing nuts are angry, that only means one thing. She's doing a great job. Then 4 more years!
Cyclist permits could offset some costs.
When a group of people in this case NYC bike zealots, get a little bit of power they tend to want it all.
Time for cyclists to pay licence fees to pay for all the infrastructure they demand. Also, mandatory liability insurance, mandatory helmets for adults, Parking fees, etc...
Cycling cuckoos and confrontational politics pushing it to the extreme.
These agents also have the benefit of making referrals, which is a huge plus when it comes to gaining the best deal on your home. Benham & Reeves offer complete estate agents in canary wharf.
With all the problems this state has with finances, taxes, crime and people fleeing the state this is a priority for sawtooth Hochul. These Democrats are so out of touch with reality. Between Hochul and Cuomo U Haul doesn't need to do any advertising. The state is basically dead right now.
@ “Cycling cuckoos and confrontational politics pushing it to the extreme.”
Says a cuckoo car commie.
@"NPC Doofus and assorted right wing nuts"
You are a typical Leftoid that name calls and responds to an argument by changing the subject.
NPC_translator has been calling out nonsense on both sides which is rare and refreshing.
The SJWs in NYC are cringe and have gone too far. They decided to overcompensate and become a full blown Communist.
These Man-Boy NYC bike zealots are having Sausage Parties over these new bike lanes and taking the cars away from drivers.
I see a lot of car totalitarians are bursting with rage. Way to go Kathy!

This sounds reasonable, so it will never happen.
I'll ride my bike against traffic on the FDR if that's the route I need to take
@"Time for cyclists to pay licence fees to pay for all the infrastructure they demand. Also, mandatory liability insurance, mandatory helmets for adults, Parking fees, etc..."
Time to stop subsidizing car/truck/oversized SUV drivers. Enough of this paying for roads, bridges and other infrastructure out of the taxpayer pocket. Let these commie car owners pay their own way.
As for "Parking fees". Free parking on city streets should be a thing of the past. Time to pay up at NYC market rates.
Bunch of freeloaders.
If Quotation Drones are an alternative form of transportation, they should pay registration and insurance fees the same as everyone else.

I agree. They should be charged for private insurance and parking for their idiotic bikes. I can't tell you how many times one of those idiots cyclists almost ran me over when I worked on the upper east side.
Also, where the hell would they put a bike lane on any of the bridges? The throgs neck Bridge sucks. How would you even put a bike lane on a bridge like the throgs neck? With all the traffic on it and there isn't any (safe) highways that it attaches to.
Claims that cyclists will pay tolls, and thus benefit the MTA are illusory.
1. We'll see virtually no bicycles on the bridges. They will go unused, like almost all bike lanes.
2. They won't charge them any tolls, anyway.
3. If you DID charge them tolls, even fewer cyclists would use the bridges.
@"You are a typical Leftoid that name calls and responds to an argument by changing the subject."
So the word "Leftoid" isn't name-calling?
How about "Let's Go Brandon", "DemoRat", "LibTard", commie, etc. etc. etc.
I presume, in your opinion, only right wing nuts have a license for name-calling. If you can't handle a little name-calling, that's not my problem.
As for NPC_translator AKA SeerofZOG or whatever. He is just like any other loud mouth clown you could find holding up the counter in a Gin Mill, spouting nonsense and lies to all who want to listen. Go ahead and take him seriously if you want. He is about at the same low IQ level as yourself.
Bikes got to insure or bond themselves at least $100,000 for when they go under these cars and trucks. Tags, Drivers license and penalty points too.
If they want to run red lights stop signs (like most of them) they must pay into the pool too with big insurances premiums for those reckless habits.
Its both fair and for their own good to sock them with $2000 insurance for dangerous moving violations
That alone is sure to cull a huge chunk of this bullshit and blood on the streets.
If they cant afford rent, a car, public transportation they really need a better job or move out of NYC. What's next they want free rent and eviction protection for life?
I know many cyclists like to fight and throw things like nuts and bolts.
Serving coffee, professional protesting, delivering pot or Chinese noodles don't cut it. Hey, don't like obeying traffic regulations GET LOST we want our roads WE PAY FOR back.
NYC is not Amsterdam or any other of those low population shithole villages in Europe. When these cyclists mess up traffic or take up lanes my truck burns more gas from the stop and go. I hate being behind them, especially on hills or in fast traffic. You never know when they are going to hit some pothole, roadway debris, garbage etc and go under your wheels. SQUISH, grinding and cracking noises!!
People need to wake up and say enough with this following socialist Europe's ways and start hammering the elected hard.

I still find it funny when I see supposedly big government and regulation hating right wing nuts rant on, and demand the government to impose more regulation on cyclists.
What's next? Right-wingers wanting regulation on strollers, old ladies with shopping trollies, rollerblades? Perhaps they all should have a license and pay a toll for walking on the sidewalk. How about Mum's needing insurance for their strollers? "Are your rollerblades registered, sir?"
What a bunch of assholes!
A Republican NY state Senate provided a check against the Assembly which is dominated by NYC and other far left members. Without they check, and with a governor afraid of her left flank, we are close to full NYC governance over NYS. It is more important to flip the NY state Senate than Congress in 2022.
So, in a Nut Shell....This means where ever they are going to do this, take away a Lane of TRAFFIC.....Drivers must SHARE THE ROAD, well why can't BIKES Share the road with Pedestrians?
Yes pretty much they're just going to take a lane away from traffic because MTA is lazy and it's a lot easier to comply by just adding a few jersey barriers and signs vs a exterior addition on the outside of a bridge...again showing you that you can't just escape to the suburbs to leave NYC they'll just make it harder for you to even drive through the city. Add another 10 minutes to your commute for a bike lane that sees maybe a bicycle every 30 mins.
I'm surprised governor horseface didn't push for buggy lanes!! NNEEIGGHHH ...WILBURRRRR"
There's no chance if flipping the NYS senate. There's a democrat supermajority and Hochul will pander her ass off to the six zip codes in the Bronx and Brooklyn to make sure she gets elected. Face it - if You're White in NYS, you're a 2nd class citizen unless you are part of the Democrat nomenklatura
NYS senate
What? Maybe a communist junta!
Un Elected Gov. Kathy Hochul is pushing to allow universal no-questions-asked mail-in voting — even though voters rejected the move in November.
How dose your vote count Sheeple ?
@“ What? Maybe a communist junta!”
Wow! That’s so funny….. NOT
Horsefaced Twat sez whut?
