Mayor-elect Eric Adams said Sunday he would like to see mask mandates at schools lifted by the end of the academic year, now that children are eligible for COVID vaccines.
“Not being able to see the smiles of our children, I believe that has a major impact,” New York City’s incoming mayor said on CNN.
He sounded a different tone than outgoing Mayor de Blasio, who said on Thursday that he wanted to keep the school mask mandate in place, at least in the short term, “out of an abundance of caution.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday for children ages 5 to 11.
“If we can find a safe way to do it, I look forward to getting rid of the mask, but it must be done with the science,” Adams said. “Part of the development of socialization of a child is that smile.”

Refreshing to have a mayor with common sense.
Good. Masks are a stupid waste of time. Masking children is child abuse, plain and simple.
This abundance of caution thing is bullshit. Might as well never leave our homes.
By the end of the school
Year? Why not the minute he’s sworn in?
What was I expecting from the black Alfred E Nueman?
"Refreshing to have a mayor with common sense."
Give him a chance, he's off to a slow start...
You guys know that he said "at the end of the academic year."
"at the end of the academic year."
June.....great start, albeit slow.
Says, "He would like to see mask mandates lifted by the end of the school year!" What the hell does that mean. You news folks would eat a mile of any democrats shit and smile.
Ever hopeful that this is a white hat op, I am thinking he will have masks slowly disappear BY the end of the academic year as indicated in the article.
IOW, helping to make those frightened families who thrive on TV news more comfortable, Adams will have a multi-stage
effort to get rid of the masks.
I am putting this out into the Universe......to help the children and their parents.
There is nothing more puzzling than seeing parents walk unmasked next to their masked children. Honestly, while I do my best to have compassion for their fear, I have a hard time processing this behavior.
One of the things that I have realized this past two years most prominently is the utter lack of curiosity of people who are tethered to their televisions.
Walking around without a mask from the very start of this episode in January 2020 and living in an apartment building with signs that I have ignored, people never once asked me why I won't wear one. They just chastise me for not looking exactly like them.
If it's so uncomfortable for them, why don't they ask me why I don't acquiesce?
There's nothing like giving up your freedoms and then assuming you will get them back.
An other progressive. Stop fooling yourselves with this globalist tool widget.
Even if the Shot works, we still don't know for how long; masks are the ultimate joke on the follow the science crew. Wearing a mask to stop a virus is like trying to stop a swarm of mosquitoes with a chain link fence. The Blue states are hopeless.

Is not about whether the clot shot works or the mask works.
Compliance is what they want. You don't know much about communism, but soon a lot of people will realize what is going on.
