1010 WINS
A homeless encampment in Queens that has garnered dozens of 311 complaints since April is still set up — and causing myriad problems for nearby businesses.
Since April 1, neighbors have filed 49 complaints about the encampment at Whitney Avenue and Broadway in Elmhurst, which usually comprises between 10 and 20 homeless people.
The encampment is still there, however, and the 311 complaints filed about it have been resolved with phrases including "closed," "non-crime corrected," and "refused assistance."
William Zheng, whose cousin runs a restaurant across the street from the setup, told 1010 WINS homeless people who live at and frequent the encampment scare off patrons and leave garbage behind.
Nearby businesses end up getting fined for the trash, he said.
Asked about the encampment, NYPD Sergeant Jessica McRorie said police haven’t been able to respond to it because budget cuts eliminated the department’s homeless outreach unit.

The police budget was cut in July. What is their excuse for doing nothing the previous three months?
Empathic Marxist New York elected "Leaders" caused this not the NYPD !
Diversity and the inclusion of a homeless camp is great right ?
Come on Dems, send in the social workers and the feelings, that will solve the problem.
Defund police is really working for you Blue cities. You deserve what you got.
This fucking idiot mayor has the balls to tell us it's only a few spots and when the city finds them they are cleaned up. As fast as the city cleans them they are right back. This idiot has to go out around the boroughs and see it for himself. It's all over the place.
This mayor has to be the dumbest, delusional or blind person not to see what is happening around him. He is constantly in denial about the problems around him and it's not his fault. Always blames others for the problems he has created.
It's Trump's fault. It's Cuomo fault. It's the federal or state governments fault.
WORST MAYOR EVER.
Call a social worker, New Yorker's.
Police budget wasn't cut till July. More proof of an intentional NYPD slowdown to scare New Yorkers into giving even more money to the one of the most funded police departments in the world even after the $1 billion cut.

Not sure about the "elected" part otherwise spot on!
Life in the 3rd World sure is grand.

Coming to a neighborhood near you soon in every Blue DemoRat state!

Didn't Homeless Outreach get transferred to a different City department? Who's in charge of it now? Who do we complain to?
Frag it!
Nah! Only kidding😂
Never a good part of Queens. Shit nabe gone worse.
Come on people - you should know the drill by now. Make a list of every elected official and community board and civic group. Send them this information and ask for a response.
Nothing will happen.
Then get someone from the news or media to make the calls and ask how did it happen, are they not aware that it is happening, and why did they not clean it up when they were aware of it.
If no one in the media responds, list their names and affiliations here on Crappy. Remember, the best way to get rid of bugs is to turn on the light.
Aww Homeless encampments in a third world shithole that constantly votes for Democrats. Whatta surprise! Are they defacating in the empty Episcopal.Church yet? LOL

Good luck with that
When you're a sanctuary city, and you pass laws guaranteeing housing for "all who need it", what do you expect? Bums from all over the country hear the clarion call, and bums from other countries as well. They make their way to NYC to cash in on the freebies. There is no residency requirement to receive benefits. If they set up housekeeping on your sidewalks, dog parks, alleys, makes no difference to them. It's probably just as good or better than what they lived in before. You need to change the laws welcoming these bums as your first move to get rid of them. There will never be enough money to pay for all the social services, housing, food, medical care, drug detox, etc. that these louse-ridden hordes suck up.
I don't know what's happening, but all of the meth dealers in this red state county have disappeared since the democrat riots. Where'd they go. Portland?
Is this the encampment under the LIE as you are westbound? You see it as you pass heading towards Maurice Avenue.
When you're a sanctuary city...
But you see the Dems are so isolated in their own bubble that they are doing this for many reasons all of which makes perfect sense to them - damn its impact on anyone and anything not associated with them:
1. Scares away Republicans - no sane person wants to live with this around them.
2. Provides jobs for Democrats, particularly the new arrivals who see nothing particularly bad about this (indeed, from where they are from this is pretty mild stuff)
3. gives the Democratic legislature a purpose when they fight for the 'Regular Joe' which taps back into the proud heritage of their ancient Oakie and Black Ghetto roots (and incidentally diverts money from things that make Republicans strong and popular as capital projects that shore up crumbling infrastructure) and
4. ensures that the voters in a particularly district have no idea on the real power of American citizens over their officeholders as everyone is herded like cattle by the Machine Wranglers into blissful, dutiful, mindless, supporters of Boss Tweed: its the only thing they know and from many of the 3rd world cultures they grew up in, not much different.
What does the NYPD have to do with homeless people? You want them to to let them? Arrest them? This is the city to all voted for. Don’t hear any solutions from the peanut gallery. Just blame blame blame. Get used to it.
311? Great dumberg idea to treat taxpayers like employees and his company calling the help desk! ? Never mind the city is incorporated, but still, taxpayers are not his employees at will. Talk about utter contempt!
Sanctuary city. The right to shelter state. Maybe all states should be the right to shelter state and keep their residents close to home. After all we were the epicenter of the pandemic.
This homeless encampment is at the end of Whitney Avenue and 83rd St in Elmhurst, a block off Broadway and across the street from the LIRR tracks.
To the previous Anonymous commenter: Never heard of a complaint for *the concept of* a 311 system before. Do you really want to go back to the way it was before 311, where you had to figure out which of 100 phone numbers to call to reach the appropriate department? The implementation of 311 has many problems, but the concept itself is good and essential.
@warp10
Lovely. Only choices are going back or keeping the corporate help desk for taxpayers.
“ Police budget wasn't cut till July.”
It’s obvious. Police want a slowdown. Arrests went down significantly from last year but they and DeBlasio blames the court system.
During the pandemic, a large percentage called in sick. Supermarket cashiers and workers still worked.
Defund police is really working for you Blue cities. You deserve what you got.

Why are you posting here then? What does a blue state have to do with wanting to defund the police? Joe Biden doesn’t want to defund the police. The red states are welfare states. Blue states are typically better educated with higher paying jobs and attract bright people.
It’s not black and white. Are you so bitter that you post the same thing repeatedly? Waahhh! You deserve this!
You’re a grown man or a little petulant crybaby?

Do you need a safe space dear ?
We all should be for Stopping Blue State Bailouts.
They need to balance the books and lower taxes for the Middle Class.

You are the living testimony :) :)
I live nearby. I walk through the camp once every couple weeks to get where I’m going. It is very sad to see so many desperate needy people. But in my experience, they are not the same homeless that one traditionally encounters in trains, ie, severely mentally, ranting, potentially dangerous. They appear to be men from South and Central America who came here to try to make some kind of living (day laborers etc) and are stuck in this horrible situation instead. They are always talking and laughing together, sometimes have beers and pass out but don’t bother ppl with panhandling and screaming threats. Last I heard, a church group was working with them to try to establish a portable sink (one of those things you fill with water and pump with your foot), and the ppl were very receptive to the idea and willing to help keep it clean etc. but the church group was afraid that the city would just haul it away (this was Aug 8 when I heard about the sink so I’m not sure of the current status). My point is: none of us want a homeless encampment in our vicinity, but it a fact of life now in Craphurst (and many other areas). I do not get the impression that these Whitney Ave peeps are harmful (other than by creating garbage... but garbage is a major problem now in all of NYC thanks to the recent cuts). Just try to muster up some compassion. I take issue with the store owner Zheng saying they are scaring away customers. Much more disturbing are the residents of that abysmal and deadly “adult care facility” in the neighborhood- the place that dumps residents on the street to beg all day and drunkenly or atypical-antipsychotic-ly roam Broadway.
