Jim Quinn drops out of Queens Borough President race

Quinn out, Ariola in, Dem primary next 1

Queens Chronicle

When Gov. Cuomo canceled the June 23 nonpartisan special election for Queens borough president, it knocked retired prosecutor Jim Quinn out of the race.

Quinn was one of six candidates vying for the spot but, after consideration, had not put his name in for either of the primaries to be held the same day.

Queens GOP Chairwoman Joann Ariola-Shanks is running on the Republican and Conservative lines in the general election.

Quinn was unsure if he wanted to go forward and decided he didn’t want to run on the Republican line, meaning that even if he won the special election he would have had the job only through the end of 2020. When the party was getting signatures for the general election, it was Juniper Park Civic Association President Tony Nunziato’s name on the petition.

“We were very clear that we were supporting Jim throughout the special election and that Tony’s position on the ballot was as a placeholder to give Jim the amount of time of he needed to decide which way he wanted to go,” Ariola-Shanks said.

So Quinn wanted Republican support, would have only been able to win with Republican support, actively solicited Republican financial support but REFUSED to run as a Republican. Mighty self-serving if you ask me. He isn't even running on the Conservative line which he purports to be.

Is Quinn going to return the money he raised from Republicans? I doubt it.

Both Quinn and Lasak may have been the right guys for the job they sought, but politically they are relics for whom there is no place either demographically or policy-wise in today's Democrat party.

I, for one, am through supporting phonies who want my vote and support while not having the backbone to commit to my party. If Queens Republicans are going to become extinct, then so be it. I'll become extinct and I'll do it while holding on to my value system. County can keep their cross-endorsed "conservative" Democrats. Extinction is inevitable either way.

First Maio, now Quinn. Who do we have left to choose from?

Well he probably saw the writing on the wall, yes he’s certainly qualified, but that means nothing in corrupt Queens. We have a DA with no prosecutorial experience. our council people are all beholding to real estate developers, our Mayor is a dunce. the fix is in. In the age of identity politics, Quinn never stood a chance.

Give the money back Quinn!

NOT OVER. Quinn will be filing a lawsuit in next few days. Judge Analisa Torres' decision will greatly help his case. Stay tuned.....

Who the hell am I going to vote for now?

Let's be clear here: Quinn doesn't want the BP job. He just wanted o win it so he can get some exposure and then run for DA against Katz.

"The Queens County Republican Party is a fucking joke !" people like you make this city decline.. Have some de Blasio and go.

NYS State Primary back on the calendar. King Cuomo has to eat words. Courts say he does not have the authority to make that decision. James Quinn filed court papers to reinstate Special Elections .... Given what happened with the Primary, likely a UNBIASED court will rule the same.

'people like you make this city decline.. Have some de Blasio and go.'

I'm a Republican and I certainly agree the Queens County Republican Party is a joke. Remember the kid they ran against Vickie Paladino? He got about 34 votes WITH County backing. LMAO.

The Queens County GOP isn't a party at all. It simply exists so that several insiders can get and keep a few BOE jobs. That's all.
