NY Post
In a stunning move mere days before the election, Rory Lancman announced Friday that he’s dropping out of the Queens district attorney race to endorse rival Melinda Katz.
The decision was just as much about old-school Queens Democrats circling the wagons to ensure insurgent Tiffany Caban – a young public defender being endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – doesn’t win as it was about backing Katz, the borough president whom Lancman harshly attacked during the campaign, sources said.
“The numbers are simply not there for me to win this Tuesday’s Democratic primary,” said Lancman, a city councilman.
“And I owe it to the voters, and particularly to my supporters, to acknowledge that fact and withdraw from the race.”
Lancman, who was joined by Katz at a Queens press conference in making the announcement, attributed his bowing out to being “especially concerned about causing a split in the South Queens vote” and “effectively diluting the voice of the community most impacted by the decisions our next DA must make.”
South Queens consists of predominately African American communities, a critical vote in borough primary races.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo also is backing Katz.
One Queens Democratic Party official told The Post that Lancman did the right thing.
“If you’re Rory, you don’t want to play spoiler. You don’t want to burn down the house. It’s a big blow to Queens County if we lose this race,” said the official, who requested anonymity.
What does that official mean by "we lose this race"? These are all democrats that are running, how does the whole party lose? It's clear the candidate they are targeting is Caban, but do they consider candidates like Lasak or Malik and the other 3 spoilers too?
More importantly, why did the NY Post protect the identity of this person if he or she serves the constituency of the "world's borough" and says shit like this? Clearly this "insider" as well as "the house" doesn't have the voter's interests in mind and is more concerned with maintaining the power structure of the Queens Machine.
This is all just warped.
And now you readers see why I included that SE Queens article a few days ago.

Rory knows how high the stakes are.
Isn't it likely that, for the reward of dropping out and endorsing Melinda, Lancman would get the Party's endorsement to run for her vacated BP office, if she win?
Every single Republican in this county should register as Democrat and let's just forget about November.
LASAK FOR QUEENS DA!!!!!!
The queens machine gave him a judgeship most likely
Pretty sure he's going to the private sector. With this, Rory basically quit his political career.

No, I think he's banking on Katz winning and then endorsing him to replace him as BP.
In the DA race: Katz and Caban split the a**hole vote, and Lasak wins in a squeaker.
WoW! That's a surprise. One insider democrat dropping to support another insider democrat. He didn't stand a prayer anyway, the party's backing Katz. Another wannabe who just likes to see his name in the papers.
Just think if you've been a Democrat voter in Queens, you have helped empower an organization that seeks to place a woman in the DA's office that has never stepped foot into a court room to try a case of any type. They don't give a rat's ass about their constituents or the population here as a whole. And you have made it all possible. Thanks a bunch.
Anon above:
Not possible for Republicans to put Lasak over the top. It's too late to switch parties for the primary. That had to be done a year ago. Welcome to NYS election law.
Lancman was never a serious candidate. It was meant for political leverage as that's how the game is played. He's angling for either BP or a judgeship and this was the way to make sure the machine had to give him what he wants.
Why do you think all these obscure Democrats with no chance are throwing their hat into the ring for the Presidential race? Very simple. Graciously back out and support the lead nominee and then leverage that into an Administration job if your guy wins.
Thanks the game, kiddies. That's how it's played. And like the poster above mentioned, the voting public makes it all possible.
Shame what happened to Lasak as he is no doubt the best candidate. But timing is everything in life. Brown lived too long and destroyed Lasak's chances.I hope Lasak wins but with Lancman not there to dilute Katz, I just don't think the math works.

it's ridiculous to talk about freedom and democracy in a country that has always betrayed both with impunity. That's why I, and millions of like minded critical thinkers have abstained from voting, altogether, because the system is entirely rigged from inception.
Voting is not an act of political freedom, it's political conformity, for which everyone else has continually paid the ultimate, soul-crushing price - and, the ever languishing public be damned!
What? THIS IS NEW???
This is deja vu of the Borough President race where Leroy Comrie dropped out of the race against Katz and was rewarded with a position in her office when she won. Lancman no doubt will be rewarded with a cushy job when she inevitably wins, either directly from her or from the democrat machine.
Uh... so how would it be better if we all stopped voting?
"Not possible for Republicans to put Lasak over the top. It's too late to switch parties for the primary. That had to be done a year ago. Welcome to NYS election law."
Agreed, but that was not the sentiment I was expressing. If Lasak loses, every Republican should become a (conservative?) Democrat and take down the Democrats from within. The Republicans have no voice anymore, why not just join them if you can't beat them?
Anything to stop the communist wave. Good move
I predicted this...
You do realize yo are quoting a convicted cop killer and fugitive.
A reading from the gospel according to The Queens Machine.
Vote for Greg Lasak. He's the only qualified, experienced candidate for this job. If he loses and Katz wins, watch the streets flood with criminals. Queens will be like the wild west.
He looks thrilled...
Let’s face it, the tribe stays together
Lasak--- no more old men please.
They are too conservative, religious and go soft when they realize they are going to die soon. The last thing this city needs is another old man DA. Jackass Benedict Arnold flip flopping John McCain was a perfect example of this softening with age phenomenon
Trump has gone soft in the nuts also, put on knee pads for the EU, Pope, church and Nancy Pelosi called off immigration raids that took months of planning and millions to set up. Now the Dems have time to create a strategy ---STUPID MOVE
These are examples of why anybody, anything but more old men.
No more fucking old men in high positions, judges & DA's included

Ageism at it's finest. Spoken like a true lib-tard. 64 is old? You're an idiot too.
Every other ism is wrong except ageism
One hack drops out, but is sure to support the other hack.
Nyah, Bo Valoney is gonna be beep
What a pussy Lancman is, he just got bitch slapped by Katz. We now know who has the balls between these two.
Best case scenario:
Caban cannibalizes Katz' votes in Western Queens. Southeast Queens voters don't go all in for Katz with some of them secretly voting for the Hispanic woman instead of the Jew from Forest Hills. Old guard ethnic White Democrat turnout is solid. Katz and Caban cannibalize each other and Lasak ekes out a win with the last gasp of White ethnic power in Queens County Democrat politics.
Make no mistake: this race is a referendum on the future of the Democrat party in Queens. It is an increasingly hostile environment for Caucasians and that trend is certain to continue. Greg Lasak is quite likely the last straight White Christian male to ever have a shot at the Queens DA seat.
Having said that, there is no question that the numbers are in Katz' favor. Let's hope for an upset win by Lasak!

As long as one is healthy, 60-70 years old is the perfect age for prosecutors, Judges, etc. Old enough to have the necessary wisdom and young enough to effectively apply it.
Anybody that isn't voting for Lasak due to age is nuts. The man has more experience on every level of the job than all of his opponents combined.
ALL OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES WOULD NEED TO LEARN THE JOB. LASAK IS READY ON DAY ONE BECAUSE HE HAS LIVED THE JOB FOR FORTY YEARS!

Another day, I answered a question regarding the whole CNN scandal, just voicing my opinion, many people congratulated me on my maturity level, they told me that I made some great points, etc... Then However, this one old character decided to pull one thing after another of the whole text that I wrote, particularly my age.
The funniest part of that was him admitted sharing my political beliefs! He just felt like because I am 28 years old with a high school education that I do not have a right to an opinion and my thoughts and ideas didn't matter because HE KNEW WHATS BEST for everybody else due to his age and experience
This was a certain overeducated self righteous who lives in a gated fortress with armed protection that tried to jail me for brandishing a knife on some scumbag about to rob, rape or kill me. In his mind the threat was over when the assailant retreated on foot (ran like hell) and I was the villain, A FELON!
As a matter of fact, I will be participating in the next election, and I will voice my opinion, regardless if I am 28 or 65.
Agreed, if you're going to pick on someone just because they're older I wouldn't let their age be the deciding factor on the quality of their opinions. They do have A LOT of experience, however these elderly folks can be real jerks as well. In most cases the more overeducated they are the WORSE they are because they never seem to currently live middle or lower class neighborhoods and suffer the same quality of life, demographic and economic horeshit we are forced to put up with.
Anyways, I know that this may be a very long rant, that may mean absolutely nothing to you, but it was a way to finally express my feelings. I am tired of being disregarded just because of a stupid number which only means how many rotations the Earth has completed around the Sun since the day that I was born.
I just came back from voting and the place was deserted. A low turnout due to the new June primary and bad weather makes the election a real wild card. I voted for Caban as a protest vote against the hack Melinda Katz. What has she ever done besides shuffle between several different city elected offices? Is she leading the fight against a new jail in Kew Gardens a block away from her office? Not a chance when she is owned by the democrat machine which supports the jail. I couldn't vote for Lasak because he is running a horrible campaign as a liberal instead of on law and order, and he's just not an appealing person. He looks like a character actor without any depth.
Isn't it against the law to drop out of a race to benefit an opposing candidate in exchange for a benefit, such as an official position in government? Isn't it similar to bribery for public office? Just asking.
A also believe he (Lasak) was as a liberal view instead of on law and order. He was also to old to put up a fight. That weak horrible campaign showed nothing but weakness. I also do not want an old Christian male working laws wile being counseled by some a Catholic priest, preacher whatever.
I also voted for Caban in protest and I'm a white person.
Out with all these lazy overweight behind a desk old fucks having others do all the work for them. Katz included, young people with lots of energy & fight in them is what's needed.
Anon above: Queens County Democrat machine are not concerned with the "law." In their minds, they are the law.
