Post 1836 of Woodside, N.Y. holds Memorial Day ceremony

Legiontown USA

On Memorial Day 2019, American Legion Post 1836, Blvd Gardens (Woodside, N.Y.) held its annual ceremony which has occurred for over 50 consecutive years. The ceremony, which included the "National Anthem," "God Bless America" and the reading of the names of the deceased veterans from our community, was highlighted by those killed in action. The ceremony is meant to keep an awareness in the minds of our community that “freedom is not free.”

It was won and is kept by the men and women who currently serve in the Armed Forces, as well as those who served in the past. Memorial Day reinforces in all of us the honor and valor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. They must never be forgotten.

Our community heard remarks from our and neighboring elected officials which included
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblyman Brian Barnwell, Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and NYC Councilman Jimmy van Bramer. Six floral wreaths were donated by local organizations and hung under the main archway on the grounds of Blvd. Gardens, a 900 apartment co-op community. Our ceremony was also attended by World War II veteran Luke Gasparre, who is 95 years young.

JQ, respectfully: how come it took Queens Crap (and others?) so long to get tbis item? The bartending imagery came out the next day in the media at the latest.

And that's all there is? Just her posing with 2 vets and Van Bramer and his mother?

This link was provided in the comments section of your post. Note in the comments section that a few comments where saying she was and I replied that if that if it was true then send a link proving it. Well lo and behold someone sent it today. If anything blame me for not doing more digging, but I in the midst of writing a post on Impunity and also reading other news items (the world is bigger than AOC ya know)

I don't think this discounts your inquiries of her absence at the parade. She usually posts everything (and I mean eve-ry-thing) on her twitter account and being a follower I didn't see anything about her visit to the legion or even at the memorial day parade.

And it definitely doesn't discount your opinions about her chief of staff. I think he's perpetrating a fraud and is doing some social media and publicity machinating and he has got to go.

As for that picture, well what can you say about it. She was there and greeted and conversed with everyone there. Sometimes a picture doesn't say a thousand words or even one at all.

I'm thinking this has been a tempest in a teapot from day one! How about we get on with some real news. Most politicians are not vets anyway and only show up on Memorial or Veterans day for the votes.

Political whores only like vets twice a year, Memorial Day & Veterans Day. Vets are ignored the rest of the year. On those two days they love them and need to be photographed with them.

War is a racket, romanticized and celebrated with nostalgia by Hollywood and the corporate fascist bought media - so long as THEY didn't have to do the dying in ALL of the pseudo, proxy, petrodollar war crimes against humanity.

This sickening display of feigned loyalty and allegiance to the dead is nothing more than backstabbing, corporate demanded allegiance and loyalty to the elitist force of chaos and destruction so that billionaires like Walmart don't have to work for a living - and, extreme corporate welfare for billionaires is happily doled out - and, the public wage slaves are nickel-and-dimed to their cradle-to-grave deaths of never-ending adversity, beggary, obscurity, quiet desperation - and, PUBLIC SQUALOR, versus THEIR PRIVATE SPLENDOR (and UNJUST ENRICHMENT), and the ever languishing public be damned!

What? WHAT?? THIS IS NEW???

After seeing these two guys and the damage their ilk gives to us by supporting the machine hacks - those developer funded stooges we are given to elect to office - I almost decided to support AOC.

That guy in the Army uniform looks really screwed up.
That is no way to wear a beret.
