The
de Blasio administration is fighting to keep under wraps studies of its
own data used to analyze whether the city’s affordable housing lottery
system reinforces segregation.
The
latest result: a 31-page report filed in Manhattan Federal Court on
Tuesday that contains the word “Redacted” 131 times over the spots where
the findings would be — including eight times with the R-word screaming
out in huge type.
The
fight for secrecy stems from a suit filed by a civil rights group
arguing that the city’s policy of giving so-called “community
preference” for affordable housing to residents already living in a
neighborhood keeps intact the racial and income status quo.
The Anti-Discrimination Center’s latest analysis of the issue isn’t public, thanks to objections by the city.
“
It’s
extraordinary that information that can’t be personally identified is
treated as a state secret,” said Craig Gurian, an attorney representing
the Anti-Discrimination Center. “This is information the public could
not be more interested in. It’s not personal information. It’s how the
housing lottery process — which can have tens of thousands of New
Yorkers apply for a few apartments — whether people get a level playing
field or not, based on race.”
Gurian
first asked a federal magistrate judge to put this data into the court
record in June 2017 after a statistics expert hired by the
Anti-Discrimination Center completed his first report.
At
the time, however, Judge Katharine Parker blocked the release of the
study’s results, agreeing with the de Blasio administration’s request to
keep it private while city lawyers prepared their response.

What I don't understand is why these "lawyers" are receiving more consideration than the citizens of NYC. It's data that exists and is compiled for a reason, to insure that NYC is not run by a pack of closet racists, another Birmingham, ala 1950's. It's the public's money that funds the compilation of the data, the books should be open. This "lawyers need time" thing, is an old worn out ruse. Just like NYC's mayor!

Purely opinion, while race is surely a factor, I think the developers behind these buildings mostly don't want low income citizens living in their buildings.
And the area median income they cite for pricing these buildings in niche towns, say North and Northeast Brooklyn and even in the South Bronx are designed for the "struggling" millenial caste. Some actual affordable buildings have been built but they are very far away from mass transit
de Blasio's affordable housing plan is a pure scam. And this just proves it. Whats truly hysterical is that his information erasers decide to just print the actual word instead of leaving the majority of their FOIL's black. But everybody knows how Mayor de Faustio feels about optics...

Anyting under $100,000 is now low income in NYC. That being said the developers are not the only ones who don't want to live with low income "Citizens"!

The official position, from the Senate to the streets, to the media is “Resistance.” Leftist media outlets and funding from billionaires in Europe are feeding it 24-7.
Its simple math and logic. Divide the left into 2: moderates and radicals. ;both want very similar totalitarian societies with very little personal freedom and a great deal of government control via tactics and bullshit rammed down our throats, anything to get to that totalitarian system in place.
The “moderates” believe in working from within the system to transform the country into a leftist tyranny. The “radicals” like DeBlasio, Sandars, Ortez and Obama now believe that the system is so bad with so much resistance that it cannot even be worked for progressive ends. Instead it needs to be discredited and overthrown by radicalizing a new revolutionary base. Now guess who the are referring to?

The reason those affordable housing rents and income requirements are so high is because someone (I believe at the state level but not sure) decided to calculate the Area Median Income (AMI) to include not only the five boros but westchester, putnam, and rock land AKA the RICHEST areas in the state.
That’s why often the minimum income for a studio or 1 bedroom in these places will be $50k...more than your typical city worker makes. More than most people I know makes...
so us New Yorkers get to sit back and watch as gentrifiers snatch some lucrative job and then a nice apartment to match.
But yeah affordable housing is definitely a scam. Their income recs are too high and I think that’s what they are trying to hide. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re also racist, maybe even discriminating against the disabled and families as well.
