Ridgewood junkyard proposed as site of Queens ACC

A bulletin from the DEC revealed that 151 Woodward Ave, near Flushing Ave in Ridgewood, is proposed as the site for a full service animal shelter for the borough of Queens. All other boroughs either have a full service shelter or are in the process of building one. Queens was the last one to be addressed. There is a plan to site an intake center at the corner of 69th Street and Metropolitan Ave in Middle Village in the meantime, to replace the Rego Park drop off center.

Details about the cleanup are here.

There are several ways to comment on BCP applications. Comments can be submitted to the site Project Manager Sarah Quandt at NYSDEC, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-7016; via email at sarah.quandt@dec.ny.gov or by calling 518-402-9768. All comments must be submitted by March 1, 2019.

I'm all for a state of the art animal shelter in Queens. We worry more about illegal immigrants then the helpless and abused animals in this city. Its time to give animals the help and funding they deserve.

As long as they don't run the animal shelters in the same way they run the human shelters.

Good post. It's good and well they are bringing that intake center to MV, too. Never really noticed that there's one down the road in Rego.

In the early 2000's, I believe a proposal was tendered to use a now closed up Animal Hospital on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica Estates as the Queens Animal Care and Control center. Pity it didn't come to fruition since it's relatively easy accessibility would have likely seen more people coming to adopt.

This is so stupid. Why take a property from the tax rolls?
Look at the site; Limited accessible parking and a polluted area. Plus it's hardly in Queens. One could expectorate into Brooklyn form there.

Recently there was a reported subject on this blog concerning Willets Point. Why not an ACC site there? It has ample parking and it's just as polluted as the Ridgewood site.
Or how about a park location such as Alley Pond, Cunningham or Forest?

Amputating property from the tax rolls for this well intended folly indicates that there is more at work here than meets the eye.
