Link NYC kiosks causing problems
From
CBS 2:
More than 1,700 kiosks across the city offer free Wi-Fi calls and USB ports to charge devices.
But it turns out those ports are causing concern for some New Yorkers, who say the kiosks have become hangouts for the homeless, CBS2’s Reena Roy reported Wednesday.

Media cranks this story out every year or-so. I see people using these devices regularly -mostly tourists and kids.
I suspect the real motive is from the paid ISP's (Verizon, etc) who see these as competition and would like to see them go away.
One of the kiosks in front of my old elementary school had a plastic chair next to it for a month or more and various people sat there while they used or charged their phone (81st St -Mad av)
The whole aversion to seeing "homeless" using them stems from the desire to pretend that this problem doesn't exist...by simply making it less visible.

I was going to do a photo post on it. But I still am, because these booths have become disastrous, I never see people use these stupid eyesores except the homeless. But what this segment doesn't say is that they are never ever going to come down because of the surveillance they provide with the cameras and the data they devour from passerby's cellphones. And mostly since they were provided by the "now we're evil" search engine google, these things are here to stay until they find a way to "perfect them".
And also the city can't remove the ports because it will be discriminatory. Although it would be amusing if all the derelicts united and protested in front of city hall if they decided to remove the ports.
Same NYC shit, different day.....................and no one is held accountable and nothing is solved, resolved, investigated or enforced.
Who wants to take their phone out and charge it in NYC unless it's instantaneous
Solve the waiting times and homeless problem by removing everything and just put the Wifi transceivers up on poles or buildings where devices operating at those Ghz frequency's belong.
Charging ports and browsers ?
If people cant keep there phones charged or are to cheap to buy a $10 - $15 (Iphone)battery replacement kit or even USB backup phony battery battery on Ebay F_ em
LIKE TONY BENNETT ONCE SANG, "I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO".
YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO FAR TO FEEL THE NOSTALGIA. NYC IS ON THE CUSP OF BECOMING JUST LIKE POOP CAPITAL OF THE WEST.

"Rob in Manhattan" wrote these eloquent words from his gated community (AKA doorman building).
Never saw that one coming. How do homeless people pay their bills? Why do they need phones? Just WTF is going one here? Is it me or is everyone else taking crazy pills?!?!?!
Who just figured this out? Highly paid Duhblasio consultants? They've been shit attractors since day one. They serve no purpose whatsoever.
As was stated by someone in another post, everything in this city is geared toward the freeloaders and criminals. More convenient jails, a nice safe place to shoot up, free wifi and charging stations, how about a hotel room instead of a shelter.
How about a break for hard working proles?
"No!"
Why not?
"Because fuck you, that's why!"
Really simple suggestion: elevate the screen to eye level, not requiring sitting or stooping. I know, it was designed for wheelchairs, but we don't all have wheel chairs.
WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH HOMELESS PEOPLE!

That would probably make them illegal. Bloomberg couldn't get public self-cleaning toilets installed because they weren't wheelchair accessible. Federal Law holds that no one have access if everyone can't have access.
I wonder how much it's cost the taxpayers for this ridiculous idea. And how much to service and maintain them.
Blame the “sheep” voters of NYC for their lack of common sense in the voting booth. As a result we get idiot Mayors and Presidents!
You men the the voters who don’t vote or the 20% who do?
