From AM-NY
Flushing Bay, once derided for its unseemly smell and murky waters, has started to make a comeback in recent years.
Thousands of people use it to practice and race dragon boats. Families stroll along the promenade, no longer repelled by the powerful rotten-egg smell known to permeate cars driving by on the Grand Central Parkway.
But advocates worry the slow but steady progress will be wiped out by a controversial proposal to build an AirTrain that links LaGuardia Airport with the subway and the Long Island Rail Road.
The first steps in the environmental review process are slated to start later this week, and advocates for the bay are hoping they will get an opportunity to be heard.
“I think it would really take away so much of the work we have been advocating for — clean water, increasing community access,” said Hillary Exter, an avid dragon boat racer and board member of Guardians of Flushing Bay, a watchdog group. “Building the AirTrain either in the water or along the promenade really destroys what is a tremendous resource for the city.”

ITS TOO FUCKING LATE NOW. THE PLAN IS IN THE EXECUTION PHASE. NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BITCH ABOUT THIS !!
No problem, as someone recently wrote on a Facebook post, when those chuckelheads in Vallonia discover they can make a mint with the train to LaGuardia running through their community they will beg for it run run through THEIR block.
Look at it a win win.
They make money (which all they care about anyway) and we taxpayers and airport commuters save time and money.
And get to rid ourselves of that Vallonia crowd in the bargain. Not bad which however you look at it.
More transit options are not a bad thing. It's how the Villages and Townships pre-incorporation thrived. When there's money to be made cleaning up the bay, it'll happen, and not before (sadly).
Third world trashy people bring third world trash with them.
Every major airport in the world is linked by a rail system. How can the new La Guardia Airport not have one? Are we to return to caves? Travel by mules? These environmental fanatics are out of control! Does anyone remember the waterless urinals? Those were supposed to help save the environment, and made public restrooms smell like pee!
NYC NEEDS A ONE-SEAT SUBWAY TO ITS AIRPORTS.
WHY DIDNT THEY INCLUDE THE WORLDS FAIR MARINA AS WELL. THAT WHOLE AREA COULD USE A REMAKE.
>Third world trashy people bring third world trash with them.
Did you post in the wrong thread, or do you just post this in every article?
Why are they talking about running it along the Promenade or going into Flushing Bay? Just un it along the Grand Central like the one on the Van Wyck.
These environmental fanatics are out of control!
NO ITS THREE BLOCKS OF VALLONIANS OUT OF CONTROL. AND THE REST OF US HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.
