Flushing Meadows still flooding

Hey Crappy:

The City just spent months and millions fixing this road and area in Flushing Meadows Parks. The result: it still floods!

I went for a bike ride at the park, during the US OPEN, when the Parks Dept. takes over. They had managed to somehow turn on all of the Fountains around the Unisphere, landscape the hell out of all of the trails leading up to the fenced Off Tennis areas of the Park, and Re-Route most of the paths leading to the Unisphere around the Lake. As I was biking, I encountered a Pond in the middle of the road, that was about 1 foot deep in murky water. I had to Dismount and walk on the edge of the Grand Central, in Swamp/Marsh. The concrete around me was all new, which doesn't justify the work done to mitigate the flooding problems. If this is the path within the Park, I can't imagine what the Parkway will look like in a few years as the Sea Level continues torise, and the lake continues to swell.

The area is a low marshland prone to flooding. Fixing the road in the same position and height won't help with the flooding.

Not to be picky, but it was done by the government. What did you expect?

It's like an ad for privatization.

Maybe the high water levels will deter the assholes cranking loud music and drag racing every weekend night in there.

That area is seldom travelled. Unless your biking or running. The parks department did set up a few ditches, but not enough has been done. Those using the road should go around the inner road of the lake, then shoot back on.

Make the usta pay for the road, since they were given so much parkland for 3 weeks of tennis. Put on some concerts at Arthur ashe and pay for more park services.

A better drainage system would definitely help.

If it was privatized, they would do the same poor job, but with substandard watery concrete.

It flooded in 1970. It will flood 40 years from now. This isn't rocket science. The whole park is a wetland (aka a swamp).

It wasn't called Flushing MEADOWS for nuttin' honey. It is a lowland fed by the Flushing Creek, now underground.
