Silver gets 7 years
From PIX11:
Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has been sentenced to seven years in prison for public corruption, U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni announced Friday at a court in Manhattan.
Silver was once among Albany's most powerful Democrats until he was felled by a corruption scandal.
He was initially found guilty in 2015 of pocketing $4 million illegally by collecting fees from a cancer researcher and real estate developer.
His conviction and 12-year prison sentence were thrown out by an appeals court, but the 74-year-old fared no better at a second trial in May.
In a pre-sentence submission, Silver said he was filled with shame and feared he would die in prison.

B-O-O-H-O-O
Good riddance you friggin louse.
He should die in prison. There are not many things worse than betraying the trust of the people you are supposed to be serving in public office. I think it's called treason. We may need special facilities for all these folks. Fill 'em up!
Disappointing. I was hoping he'd at least get the 10 that the Probation folks recommended.
Soon to be . . . 2 men in a room?
Remains free on bail pending appeal.
This POS ain't going near a jail.
Afraid he might die in prison? Only if there is justice in this world. And there isn't.
As soon as he catches a cold he will get a compassionate release and be free.
Why didn't they take him into custody? When does this sentence start?
Not enough!
He should share the cell with Skelos, and leave a third chair ready for Cuomo.
That parasitic, cradle-to-grave maggot (and, entrenched, DemonRat, Monetary Locust of epic fail), of the Cuomo dynasty of endless corruption, graft and greed (whose OCD-infected brain has bankrupted New York State government in less than 40 years), should have gotten life in solitary in a deep hole in the ground——à la Silence of the Lambs fame-treatment, when men have been hanged for LESS!
But, don't count on this arrogant fraud taking his own life, y'all, when he was BORN a COWARD! Sadly, this government barnacle will continue to bilk the taxpayer for every second of his way too short sentence, for which We, the People will STILL continually pay the ultimate, soul-crushing price. On second thought, a self-hanging doesn't seem all that unreasonable, after all (except that I want him to rot, suffer and decompose 'In Da Big House' with a vengeance)!
This is a great story with a happy ending, but the real blockbuster story this fall, coming to an election booth near you:
The Resurrection! Virginia Joe Crowley, on the ballot under the Working Families Party, wins the election from Socialist and Media darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez!
He will win the election convincingly. He will say who is he to not follow the will of the people. He will retake his seat on the right hand on Nancy Pelosi. All of this with no campaigning!
I got the popcorn popped and am just waiting for the festivities to start!
That is the SECOND TRIAL where he was found guilty!!
Why is free pending appeal??
Lock him up!!!
Do your job!!!!
He's got the best lawyers he'll never do jail time.
As he sauntered down the steps I thought I heard him say, "I'll never do a day!"
Oy vey!!
LOCK HIM UP, LOCK HIM UP, LOCK HIM UP, LOCK HIM UP !!
That's what, a half year for each million he stole from us? Not even counting how he sacrificed the Commuter Tax, the revenue the City so desperately needs, just to buy himself a few more years of graft.
Now he's been convicted a 2nd time, and he's still not behind bars? What a horrible example this sets.
He will do no time! Maybe a little house arrest. But that's it. Stop electing all these bums New Yorkers. Try running someone with integrity on a third party, like the Libertarians. Upset the apple cart. You just convicted a Republican - Skelos - and now a Democrat - Silver - State leader. It's time for a change in parties not just the status quo old two corrupt parties. The new revolution will be at the polls.

Is this a reference or a song lyric or something? Google turns up nothing.
Only 7 years??? Heard a guy who stole a remote control from an apartment building lobby in Chicago wound up going to joint for much longer, 22 years to be exact. He needs a 100 year sentence. I do not give a flying shit if this shyster dies in jail.
Unfortunately it's the same old story: The rich get protected and the poor go to jail. And all through history it's the same ole' same ole'. Makes me sad and mad at the same time.
