From the Queens Tribune:
A lack of sufficient oversight of construction managers has cost the city millions of dollars and led to long-delayed projects—including several in Queens, according to an audit by the city comptroller’s office.
Comptroller Scott Stringer’s audit found that inadequate oversight by the Parks Department cost the city nearly $5 million and that approximately 40 percent of construction projects managed by private firms were completed late, resulting in delays of up to three years.
Additionally, the city paid an extra 35 percent in management fees for late projects.

How third worldish
Parks department???
Look at Eliot Avenue between Fresh Pond Road and Mount Olivet Crescent. There are paint markings along both sides of the street and sidewalk indicating that some entity will soon be ripping up Eliot while Fresh Pond and Metro are still in the state of disrepair due to the re-building of the vehicular overpass at Fresh Pond & Metro.
Oh, and it appears that the breathtakingly stupid swales that were installed in the last several years will also be victims of this gross lack of communication.
More shocking news: it's not just the Parks Department!
NOT ONLY DO THEY LACK OVERSIGHT OF CONTRACTORS BUT THEY DON'T EVEN CLEAN UP PARKS THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. HAS ANYONE RECENTLY BEEN TO MEADOW LAKE IN FLUSHING MEADOWS PARK? BY THE COLOR OF THE WATER IT LOOKS LIKE ALGAE OR BACTERIA BUT IT SMELLS MORE LIKE RAW SEWAGE. OUR PREVIOUS COUNCILMEN PLEDGED CITY FUNDS TO CLEAN IT UP AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AS OF YET. WHAT A FUCKING SHAME !!
To Anon #4:
The sorry state of Meadow Lake in the FMP is due to the Parks Dept. spending almost all funds to spruce up the north side of the Park, for the benefit of the USTA, while ignoring the south side.
Costs for work on the Battery Park Carousel tripled from $446,000 to $1.4 million for construction manager services as delays stretched for more than 1,050 days. The audit found that 76 percent of the delay was a result of failed oversight
Are we actually paying the managers who failed to oversee the project extra for the project taking longer? That's incentivizing failure.
@Anon 4 & 5: There's a lot of work that's been done over the past year, and is being done right now, around Meadow Lake to address the constant flooding problem with the pathways circling it.
Wait a minute.
Graft is not the personal property of Manhattan, it must be shared by all boroughs.
Dumblasio the lethal combination of greed and ineptitude
Stringer should do an audit of Parks Ordering Dept. Just where does all of tje equipment end up? It's obvious our
parks all over Queens don't see them used to maintain them. There must be a lot
of waste and pilfering going on at Parks Dept!
Every city project has "come in late", Why is this so shocking. The MTA's projects have been late to the tune of over 200 million $ (probably close to 1 billion $ over the last 10 yrs) and strap hangers are paying for it; Con Ed "projects" "come in late" - i.e. gas lines exploding and leaking all over the city - the general public is paying big bucks for gas and electric "usage".
LACK OVER SIGHT !?! That's the new catch phrase in employment "Do you lack over-sight, are you unqualified, Can you 'Lie Like a Rug' on your resume' and during the interview process, Can we lower standards any further in exam qualifications ? YOU'RE HIRED !!!!
LMAO - yet not funny...
