From QNS:
A Rego Park man who runs his own maintenance company faces criminal charges for allegedly pouring mercury into a Queens family’s air conditioning unit after getting one too many complaints about the malfunctioning system.
Yuriy Kruk, 48, of Alderton Street owns and operates the A+ HVAC and Kitchen Corporation. According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, a Jamaica Estates family contacted Kruk during the summer of 2015 to perform various repairs to their home.
Prosecutors said the victim repeatedly complained to Kruk that the second-floor air conditioning unit wasn’t working properly. Kruk replied that the system needed to be replaced, and in July of 2015, a new unit was installed.
Soon after the unit’s installation, law enforcement sources said, one of the victim’s noticed drops of a silvery liquid on the floor near the air conditioning units, and the same liquid dripping out of the vents in which Kruk had worked.
Members of the Fire Department’s Haz-Mat Unit responded to the home after receiving a 911 call and determined that the substance was mercury — the highly-toxic liquid metal. The family of three, which includes a husband, wife and their son, complained of having symptoms of mercury poisoning — including joint pain, headaches and lethargy.
All three family members were tested and found to have elevated levels of mercury in their bloodstream, Brown said.

This sounds like something Walter White would do.
That's a quite horrible assault, knowing what we know now about mercury. That said, when I was a kid friendly dentists would give a little of the magical substance to kids who asked, to play with.
Something is wrong with this story, Mercury if you can find it costs a fortune, more then pure silver !!
It was likely another failing cheap counterfeit expansion control valve that prevents the expansion coil from icing up. Lots of counterfeit control devices are making the rounds, heating system included.
I blame the city for rubber stamping everything without seeing it.
He should tell them the mercury game from the government mandated light bulbs!
He is in the clear!
Serves them right for complaining!
Them Russians love using mercury, poison and assorted isotopes to slowly off enemy's. They have the stuff too.
When we were kids growing up in Queens finding some mercury on the sidewalk kept us fascinated all day.We didn't know it was toxic but I'm 70 years old and still alive and well.
They wanted the property for "development" maybe?
A lot of Rissians live in Rego Park.
So they used what looks like a Russian contractor. Life was cheap in the old Soviet state. Is he going to jail? Nah! Not likely!
Russian contractor only charged with attempted assault and attempted endangering public health, slap on the wrist $10,000 bail dont even have to give up passport.
Who the hell appointed these lousy detectives, judges and police commissioner ? Arent public servants required to take a oath to serve and protect and if so why do such proven epic jerk-offs still have jobs?
$10,000 bond for First Degree Attempted Murder?
Is the prosecuter and judge in this case also Russian ?
First Degree Murder: Definition:
First-degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim.
