Future Blissville shelter "unlike" others - it's sure to be worse
From LIC Post:
A public meeting will take place in the coming days for the community to discuss the new homeless shelter on Van Dam Street that will occupy the current site of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott.
The meeting will be held on March 15 at St. Raphael’s Church, located at 35-20 Greenpoint Ave., from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event, organized by the Department of Homeless Services, will deal with the permanent homeless shelter for adult families at 52-34 Van Dam St. expected to open this month.
The location will provide shelter for up to 154 homeless families, and is unlike the nearby temporary shelters at the City View Inn and Best Western that have opened up in recent months.
The Van Dam center, according to the DHS, will be a “high-quality transitional housing facility”, and will offer multiple services to help shelter residents, including health and mental health services, employment counseling, and housing placement assistance.
HA HA HA HA!!!
Ask the people of Greenpoint how this "Home/Life Services" treats their neighborhood and monitors the "activities" of the homeless there. Same promises, shitty result:

“high-quality transitional housing facility”

Amazing, how much money, how many think tanks, how many people sitting a long table came up with "transition housing facility", like that will fool people into thinking that it is not a homeless shelter. I love this shit, from "remake" to "reboot", from used car to "pre-owned" and now from homeless shelter to "transitional housing facility". What is next "homeless person" to "facility disabled".
AND "high-quality", REALLY, a fucking homeless shelter is now "high quality", the majority of apartments in SE Queens are below "low-quality" and yet this "transitional housing facility" will be "high quality".
Is this the affordable housing our idiot leaders talk about. First micro apartments for the stupid, now the next phase.
SHEEPLE.
Damn, you could not even make up this idiotic madness if you tried.
"I need, I need, I need! Woe awaits you, New York taxpayer!"
"Is this the affordable housing our idiot leaders talk about"
yes.
I have been saying this for years. That's behind the delayed 90 shelter and supportive housing program, as the new towers get built overlooking modest family homes and the projects, where are the working families and responsible single adults going to live when they are priced out of their homes and neighborhoods from the overvalued fabricated speculations.
The Silvercup studios are gonna love this.
Oh, that's right. The entertainment industry is so liberal they probably would praise this if it was in another neighborhood. "Quiet on the set."
NIMBY.
Employment counseling????
How to pick a good corner for panhandling.
And why the hell should I, who acted responsibly all my life---got an education, supported myself, didn't drink/smoke/do drugs---give a free ride to all the scum who didn't? Furthermore, the NYC law is idiotic in that ANYONE who claims they need housing---those from out of town, out of state---gets to be supported by the more responsible taxpayers. No minimum length of residency requirement, nothing. Just walk up and get free housing, the major expense in anyone's budget. And one by one, DeScumbaggio is ruining all the nice neighborhoods--quite by plan as per his Commie agenda--by sticking homeless shelters full of drunk, drugged out, unbathed, sticky-fingered residents in them, under the guise of "hotels". These people have no incentive to clean up their act (especially on the taxpayers' dime), find work or do anything but pursue their next high, next mindless lay, next drunken binge while the taxpayers get up early to take the iffy public transit system to work, put up with all the pressures associated with working, so that these scum don't have to. This is patently unfair and unsustainable. What happens when all these deadbeats outnumber taxpayers?
TBH, there isn't much in the way of residential housing that I've seen from my many trips through the area. Assuming it goes up on the actual site as indicated, it's far enough away from most residents not to be bother them...whether it bothers the various auto-shops, cemetery-adjacent businesses etc, is another story.
I'll also dredge up by way of pointing out some irony that the reason we (Maspeth, Elm et all) had some success stopping a similar conversion of the Holiday Inn by the 495 was with the reasoning that, being in the middle of a dirty, pedestrian-unfriendly, heavily-truck-trafficked area, it wasn't really amenable to integrating (so much as sequestering/isolating) the target population, anyway. Just like this site.
>where are the working families and responsible single adults going to live when they are priced out of their homes and neighborhoods from the overvalued fabricated speculations?
You don't have to worry about that any more. All these shelters and jails will bring property values crashing down.
Just think of the possible graffiti in the area. Ah... another 5Pointz.
Holy shit, that homeless shelter looks like a place for a nightmare. Just imagine all the screaming and terror behind those windows followed by the sound of objects breaking and occasional gunshots. High rise homeless shelters.
You got to drag the Queens politicians and Queens media and Queens Community boards and Queens Civic 'Congress' into your problems - just sitting here bitching about the obvious time and again may make you feel better but does squat.
I mean lets start talking slinging mud at them.
Sounds good. How do I sign up and free government services for everything in my life?
This is an honest question. Does the Hotel continue to provide linen and room cleaning services?

REALLY, you think many on here do not contact their community boards, their hack elected officials, etc, or filing 311 complaints and contacting other agencies.
The problem is no kind of transparency with these clowns, the same folks running over and over (young new people need to step up to the plate) and the biggest problem is few constituents do anything, not even bitching, they just are oblivious to shit, don't care, don't have time or figure it is anthers problem. Power is in unity and numbers and it just don't happen in NYC let alone Queens.
Lets see how many times that van dam express gets robbed or broken into.....i'm waiting
