From LIC Post:
The Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Long Island City is set to become a shelter for adult families.
The hotel, located at 52-34 Van Dam St., will provide shelter for up to 154 homeless families, according to the Department of Homeless Services. The shelter is expected to open in March.
The agency notified the community board and elected officials of their plans on Feb. 13.
The shelter will be a high-quality transitional housing facility under de Blasio’s “Turning the Tide” initiative put forth early 2017 to tackle homelessness. Under the mayor’s plan, cluster sites through the city will be eliminated while multi-service facilities like these are set to open. For this shelter, priority will be given to families with roots in Community Board 2.
We're also paying more for the privilege of housing the world's homeless.

Its official.... Im going to quit my job and start claiming that I am homeless. With this plan, I will be living better than the regular working class in nyc! Wonderful... Hard work DOES NOT PAY OFF IN NYC!!
Can you imagine all the cleanup that is needed if and/or whenever these hotels revert back. Talk about a toxic stew.
WHY WOULD ANY INVESTOR WANT TO BUILD A HOTEL OR MOTEL IN NYC ANYMORE??
I JUST DON'T FUCKING GET IT. OUT OF TOWN TRAVELERS WANT TO HAVE A CLEAN HASSLE FREE EXPERIENCE WHEN THEY STAY IN ONE OF THE CITY'S MANY HOTELS AND NOT WORRY ABOUT GETTING ROBBED, STABBED OR DEAL WITH THE RUDE BEHAVIOR AND FUNKY ODORS.
Tourists will finally catch on when the realize they are lodging with the homeless. NYC will look more unattractive to tourists and they will travel elsewhere. Until then, tourist will flock, but when the city loses mass revenue from tourism, the city will locate the homeless elsewhere. It's not fair that people come from all over and spend so much money for hotels only to be informed that it is a homeless hotel. Where's the transparency Mr. Mayor?
Honestly, I think we need borough autonomy. For years mayors of NY made decisions unrelated to local reality..
"WHY WOULD ANY INVESTOR WANT TO BUILD A HOTEL OR MOTEL IN NYC ANYMORE??"
Because you get huge tax incentives to invest in an "under-developed" area and then when the hotel doesn't bring in enough tourists you claim you are going to go out of business and the city steps in and pays more rent when you become a homeless shelter. Win-win! For the city and the developer. Lose-lose for the community, but screw them - they'll always vote Democrat so who cares?
Why would you build a hotel...? Huh? The city guarantees you top-price, never-need-to- discount-a rate, and a full hotel booked every night for the next 30 years. Where can I invest in one??
Why not get a bunch of other working class guys pool your money and open up a Hotel/Motel Holiday Inn and charge the city for housing the homelss.
If you call a hotel, not book online, but call....And get the response or "SORRY WE ARE ONLY DOING LONG TERM BOOKINGS" ...You can bet it a HOMELESS HOTEL....

So you and your real estate buddies can scoop up all the private homes that go on sale at a discount when a shelter opens in the neighborhood.
Where is Queens Civic Congress?
Oh that's right, sending out spools of unreadable unformatted fine print the politicians give them to, ah, give out.
We need something like Tribeca Trust, Landmarks West.
