As the stomach turns...
We suggest that you read this informative expose on Kings County Politics so you can get an understanding of how we ended up with Corey Johnson as City Council Speaker and what Joe Crowley is up to these days. It really is an interesting read, even if you aren't into politics all that much. The entire city is at the mercy of congressional members' political ambitions.

we are because people either don't vote or they keep voting communists in the office..
Just look at that ugly crazy bastard.
The new definition of insanity should be: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
NONE of this scum rises to the top of the septic lagoon that currently serves as modern American politics is going to “save the Republic” "Queens" "New York" or give a crap about the Constitution because ALL OF THEM are sold out puppets to the banks and megacorporations — WITHOUT exception. Period. NONE. No one. None of them. None.
Until we start holding these bastard MF'ers to their oath of office, it is pretty much irrelevant who we elect to any office. That is pretty difficult to do when we glorify traitors as hero's and reward them with re-election. It appears the majority of voters refuse to see the festering shit behind the curtain pulling the same old levers on the rusty ass stage play we’re sold every four years in New York and pull a useful lever for ONCE in there lives. –Its called the flush chain !!

I would like to know what the hell this man has done for us on our dime. The fact of the matter that he has time to meddle in a whole lot of things that we never elected him to do, the fact of the matter is that Congress members are bringing home the bacon to constituents around the country while this guy sits around in gin mills getting himself involved in garbage that none of us voted him to do is disgusting the more we read. What a waste.
And stop this BS about his power in Washington. When he took the podium at the last convention for his blather, they cut to the newsroom to discuss the other speeches. The man with his sorry record is a product of an apathetic electorate and a population who mostly have not the foggiest notion on what to expect of their elected officials or what the entire process of American civics is really all about.
Can any of you name a single piece of legislation he has sponsored or where he stands on issues - except what is good for his cronies and henchmen in the Machine?
Interesting read.

Now look at the Democratic Machine and note the similarities. Trump is a piker compared to his opponents. Democracy is already dead in NYC.
Agree with Ned and anonymous, Joe is just as crazy and delusional as the overgrown 10 year old occupying the oval office and lounging and running his resorts on the weekend. The only thing he's accomplished is fulfilling his folk rock star fantasy by performing and embarrassing himself at dem sponsored events.
Joe's power is only limited to Queens, it's where he and his greed cult are making bank on misery and strife. He only stands for himself, his donors and his syncophants. Most of all, like the rest of the elected hack establishment in DC, he stands for his savings account and investments.
Pull the flush chain indeed. But it's going to need more than that to eradicate these derelicts of public duty. Probably a suction pump and hose like the one the transit system used to clear out the tunnels after hurricane Sandy.

That was fascinating and infuriating to read. I wish we could implement a simple directly-democratic meritocracy.
Also congrats Crappy on posting that truly revolting mug.
^Anon RE: "what he's done"...this is the only website I've found that encapsulates that sort of thing, which can be major PITA to find out otherwise..

I don't believe this for a second. The Council speaker has NEVER been from outside Manhattan. Crowley and Seddio, who together have a supermajority under their sway to elect, have ensured this takes place as a kind of compromise so they can horse trade. Jeffries is either an idiot or tried some really obscure gambit which failed. I'm guessing the former. From what little I've seen of him, Cornegy has a little bit of sense sense - my guess is he either wasn't taking it seriously throughout, or made nice with Jeffries so that he has a chance at a state level position when he's out of the Council in 2021. I wouldn't be surprised if Seddio and Crowley chatted chummily through the whole episode while letting Jeffies make a fool of himself.
The very first council speaker was from Astoria (Peter Vallone, Sr.).
Correct Crappy, I misspoke - I meant since Crowley's ascension in 1999.
ALL OF THEM are sold out puppets to the banks and megacorporations — WITHOUT exception.
Absolutely!
See where these mega corporations got us to, like the latest Intel fiasco!
No accountability, no responsibility. The examples are countless.
Oh yeah, the wonderful Clinton years that just keep giving.
I wish it was only banks and corporations, these guys sell out valuable public assets to their local homeboys, that is a lot worse.

Congressman Manton is rolling over in his grave. He must have had dementia when he let Crowley take over his Congressional post.
I will never vote for Joe Crowley. His office is disrespectful to constituents and the staff are all illegal immigrants. God forbid he, like other Congressman, should hire his own. Crowley is enamored of the immigrants and totally ignores Americans. To him, we are second class citizens, stupid Americans.
