Elderly man's driveway floods whenever it rains

From PIX11:

"I pray when it rains. I say, Lord, I hope you stop the rain. Please don't flood. Help me out," said Gadson, who still preaches at a local church once a month.

PIX11 News reached out to the Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection for answers.

A DEP spokesperson says their "records show that DEP inspected catch basins on that block, as well as on the adjacent blocks, last week, and they were found to be clean and working properly."

A DOT spokesperson said that "a recent roadway inspection revealed a low curb in front of the residence in question. As you may be aware, Section 2904 of the New York City Charter places the responsibility for the repair and maintenance of the sidewalk and driveway area on the property owner. DOT is scheduling a subsequent inspection of the sidewalk and curb to determine next steps."

The next step is to issue citations for a faulty sidewalk...

Sympathy to the old man. That said, the other side of this is that at some point, old people do not/cannot take care of their property, and the place goes to crap. These are next in line to become abandoned/zombie/squatter houses. Does a government program fix this? Probably not.

Where in Queens is this? The report doesn't say. I am going to guess Rosedale.

When the DOT paved over my street they raised the roadway over my beautiful Belgium block curb causing flooding in the bottom of my driveway. In the winter time I get a ice pond to deal with.

from the video the sidewalk and property look to be kept up.
we plan and God laughs

I think the take-away here is, "I hate you"

DOT along with all other city agencies is now made up of idiots that don't know a single thing about how to properly grade streets and sidewalks in order to compensate for run-off. Its an epidemic not just in this city but in this country. Hire brainless twits and put in orders to lay asphalt and concrete willy-nilly without a single thought or plan in place as to how it directly effects the environment. Then make the already overburdened taxpayer pay for the F-ups.

There is no intelligent life in city planning on this planet any longer.

I want to know how a low sidewalk causes the water to pool like that in from of this man's house? They city is so full of crap. Makes no sense something is wrong with the actual street not the sidewalk.

HAHAHAHA YOU FUCKERS. Street re-pavement means you mill down 1", then pile on 3", then blame the owners for the sidewalk being too low???
