Big hotel coming to downtown Jamaica

From AM-NY:

Downtown Jamaica has worked hard to reclaim its status as a destination for shoppers.

Now officials are hoping to make it a lively tourist hub, with plans for a dozen new hotels as well as residential towers and retail stores.

After decades of plans and proposals to revive the area, progress can be seen in two towers rising near Jamaica Station on Sutphin Boulevard.

One of those sites will hold a Fairfield Inn and Courtyard by Marriott with more than 300 rooms; and the other, a mixed income housing development.

Hope Knight, president of the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, said the group hopes to attract travelers who would otherwise stay in hotels outside John F. Kennedy Airport, where there is little for them to do.

“Being able to stay in downtown Jamaica is a competitive advantage,” said Knight, who pointed out the AirTrain, subway and Long Island Rail Road all stop at Jamaica Station. “And they can get to Downtown Brooklyn or Penn Station in 20 minutes.”

"False" Hope Knight apparently has never rode the train to either of those destinations and is totally denying the notoriety of the worst fucking transit system in the universe. More likely being a marketing spokesperson for a pro-overdevelopment real estate and investor collective, she's just a technocrat and natural born liar.

It used to take 30 minutes to get to Penn a decade ago, now it takes an 40 minutes to an hour thanks to overpopulation by LIC and Roosevelt. And to get to downtown Brooklyn from Jamaica, you have to take the F or the R to go through Manhattan. That is a good hour right there. This will get worse with the repairs coming with the modernization of the infrastructure recently declared by Mario's son's orders to Con Ed, the shutdown of the L train Canarsie tunnel, and the rebuilding and cosmetic upgrades to many stations.

Shut your lying mouth, Hope. Actually, don't forget to lie about the thousands of junkies and homeless people being shipped there. And the steady rise in street crime. then shut it.

The towers will be nice, and a lovely place to keep the local unemployed and homeless...

Another subject - please forgive me. Be forewarned that the Sunnyside Post arbitrary deletes POSTED comments after the fact concerning Jimmy Van Bramer. Big Brother is overseeing your thoughts. Thank you Crappy!

Jamaica , where lost hope can be found. A hotel? Are they nuts?!!!

JQ, not to defend a tweeder, but she is correct on the commute time if referring to the LIRR.

What the hell is this? How much taxes are squandered in these schemes while real needs like transportation are unmet.

Our Queens politicians live in a fantasy world.

The shame is that they will be taken down a peg by someone like Trump because the Queens voters do not have the backbone to do so themselves.

Before all the building can start they should make sure the following is done:

A) Get rid of all the homeless, vagrants in the area
B) Clean up Jamaica Center, Parsons & Archer subway stations
C) Setup mobile command centers every 5 blocks to deter street hustlers
D) Improve the lighting in the area and add more cameras
E) Enforce street vendor laws to alleviate foot traffic

How many homeless people can they accommodate? Why not just call it what it will be -- A Homeless Shelter.

I don't think she was referring to the LIRR.

No, she's absolutely referring to the LIRR. This is standard discussion piece when talking about Jamaica development.

Now... I'm a bit skeptical about it still, since usually you don't need to go JUST to Penn Station or JUST to Atlantic Terminal/Barclay's Center, so you usually have to ride the subway at the other end.

Who is the developer?

Are you kidding me?

@samuel and anonymous above.

Yeah, I guess she was talking about the LIRR. I was just on a tangent because I can't stand this technocrat and I am just too reliant on the MTA and hardly take the LIRR except to go to L.I.. I was also thinking like a tourist looking to save a few bucks going on the subway instead of the LIRR. And exactly my point, they are not going to go to Penn Station all the time. Especially if they are going the Empire state building or Macy's, the F is right there. And the E is right there too which goes to penn. But all they are going to find there when they get off are junkies and they have to do a lot of walking to get to times square. I appreciate both commenters for pointing out my error and being in agreement about this tweeder and huckster False Hope

this is the developer.

Maybe when they advertise a cheap hotel in Jamaica, people will mistakenly think it is Jamaica, the island, rather than Jamaica, Queens, and it will be a success. Put lots of palm trees in the ads.

Who in their right mind would want to stay overnight in a hotel in Jamaica? Everyone should walk or drive around that section towards nighttime. Stay away from Jamaica at night. It's disgusting and scary !

Ain't gonna make a damn difference. Jamaica is a shit hole.

Wait! The small hotels don't get enough business, so they become shelters.
So now we need bigger hotels to make bigger shelters for political blockbusting?

Why don't people go after rhe DEVELOPERS as well as the corrupt politicians who let's these ridiculous plans pass through? NO one ever seems to call THEM to task.
