From NY1:
Trying to put an end to a controversy, Mayor Bill de Blasio says Puerto Rican nationalist Oscar Lopez Rivera will no longer be officially honored at the Puerto Rican Day parade.
The Thursday night announcement comes after Rivera wrote a column published in the Daily News, saying, "I will be on Fifth Avenue not as your honoree but as a humble Puerto Rican."
City Hall on Thursday night said Rivera won’t be honored. They released a statement that reads, in part, "Oscar Lopez Rivera agreeing to step aside from any formal role in the parade is a critical step forward in refocusing our city's attention on the more important issues facing Puerto Rico."
Too late.

Why is the Mayor of NYC " refocusing our city's attention on the more important issues facing Puerto Rico"? Don't we have enough issues right here that require his full and undivided attention?
He's no longer the honoree? so what? He should still be in prison!
How did they think this was a good idea in the first place? How could they possibly justify honoring an unrepentant terrorist with the blood of New Yorkers on his hands?
You answered your own question - the Mayor isn't interested in giving his undivided attention to anything in this city thats important to the people of NYC. We've gone back to the Dark Ages of Mayorship in NYC where the presiding Mayor could care less what the people of NYC really need or want.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The live in a bubble. Everyone they know, everyone they encounter and converse with thinks like them. I believe they are completely shocked that it blew up like this.
Agreed to step aside? Why wasn't he kicked out of the parade? He is still going? I hope none of the sponsors buy this fake remorse and stay away from the whole train wreck.
He wasn't pardoned. Put him back in prison. Did he ever apologize to the family of the man he killed and what about the person he paralyzed? This is why I think the death penalty is a good idea.
The movie 'Soylent Green " doesn't seem like science fiction if you see how this city is "progressing ".
