Richmond Hill fire was particularly devastating

From Metro:

A massive fire in Richmond Hill Saturday night gutted 13 buildings and left dozens of people homeless, authorities said Sunday.

About 250 firefighters were called to the fire at 10:50 p.m. and finally subdued the blaze at around 2:40 a.m.

Five people, including two firefighters, sustained injuries that officials said weren't life-threatening. Approximately 40 people remain displaced from their homes. The Red Cross is currently coordinating care for the displaced individuals.

this is the 3rd major fire destroying small stores in 3 months.

What a shame.

May the injured quickly recover!

And we now have approximately forty more people in the homeless shelter system.

At least we can say that they were actual residents of the community...

there are 3 motel/hotel shelters in the vacinity and there are no vacancies for any of them. If stupid ass de Faustio and DHS would have waited a bit, they could have put them in the comfort inn by cross bay blvd.

this is only the beginning of the end of living in southeastern queens.

How could this not be suspicious if it started in the ACE hardware store when it was obviously closed at the time? Something stinks here.

Sure, its the new way of getting sec 8 people out, doing demolition and expediting red tape for a new bigger building.
No doubt a cheapo semi tower computer design with commercial 1st floor retail will be replacing it that will bring in 5-10X more $$ in rent.

Just as JQ LLC, stated, this is the third BIG fire in the SE Queens area that is very similar. Does this not send up a RED FLAG.

Nothing to see here, keep moving along...

Snowflake advertainmentnews blog Gothamist did a story on A train delays on Monday and did not even mention the massive fire on liberty ave. You think these intrepid journalists, allegedly so in tune with the five boroughs, would have considered that this would have been part of the cause of the delays because of it's proximity to the elevated tracks.

The Queens arsonist strikes again.

That's pretty good hypothesis. But this isn't Woodside, LIC, or even the East Village where these semi-towers are abundant. This is the dirty southeast.

You know what will be here, as is certain of where the other two fires I referred to, the ones by Briarwood and Roosevelt Ave., they will be homeless shelters. For their equal proximity to trains and a lack of trendiness or niche around the areas.

Wait for it.

""equal proximity to trains""

I think that's also why Jamaica and everything under the J train was designated NYCs dumping ground for Queens. Our politicians even back then knew the damage would not be repairable and spared Ridgewood and Astoria.
