Nolan comes out against EDC development plan over LIC tracks

From DNA Info:

Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan said the Economic Development Corporation's call for a developer to build apartments and retail on top of the Long Island Rail Road storage yard at 11-24 Jackson Ave. is "poorly planned" and that it has the potential to be "outsized and not right" for the neighborhood.

The EDC and the MTA issued a Request for Proposals Monday for a company to develop the site, which would require building over the 58,000-square-foot rail yard located between 21st Street, Jackson and 49th avenues.

"Considering the size of the site and its proximity to other large scale development in Long Island City there must be a better plan to increase basic services before such large scale development is considered,” Nolan said in a statement Tuesday.

The area's existing infrastructure is already strained, including crowded schools, subways and a sewage system that leaks waste into Newtown Creek when it rains, she said.

"I feel that we are now playing catch-up," Nolan said. "Our schools remain the most overcrowded in the city and every subway rider knows the daily overcrowded conditions on the 7, E, F, M, N, Q and R."

I guess the kickback offered her wasn't enough.

I would imagine that since the former Assemblywoman, Margaret M. Markey, was eliminated after years of doing nothing but being silent and irrelevant, and collecting a paycheck from We the People, Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan has decided it is time make an attempt to inform the public that she exists.

This may also be a call for the appropriate developers to make substantial campaign contributions for a reconsideration of positions with regard to the development of the area.

This could be very important if she were to face a primary challenge next time around.

Perhaps I should consider a run for the State House...

This development is the first in a build over of the entire yard, so we must resist it. t

We don't need more density in Queens or in NYC. It is becoming intolerable as it is.

Nolan plays interference for Jimmy "the Library Boy" Van Bramer as he has visions of higher office and doesn't want the dirty issues of the "Deplorables" (i e his constituents) on his watch.

We know the 'rabble' (i e non politicians, non developers, non toadies) see no use in development when the system is already at breaking point.

So out trundles old Cathy ready to protect her boy.

Now you know it, watch for it. Its fun to spot.

(sarc), as entertaining the idea is of you running for Assemblyman I'm afraid you cannot. You would pass the IQ test they give and thus disqualify yourself.

There are much better places to put a projest like this. These homes do not benefit the community one bit. Bring that to college point.

WHEN IN HELL DOES THAT EVER FACTOR INTO THE EQUATION?

Nothing will become of this, I'm sure Cathy has moved on and is putting all her limited attention on saving unvetted immigrants at the airport. It's all the rage you know.

Nolan is no friend of any Queens tenant or would be tenant. Ask the scum who works in her office. She hates tenants. They are pals of the landlords and developers. Probably got a bigger bag from another developer. Nolan, you're an embarrassment to Irish Americans. Shame on you.
