Forest Hills taxi stand is pissing people off

From NY1:

Our Queens Bureau Reporter Shannan Ferry sat down with anchor Kristen Shaugnessy to talk about a cab stand on Queens Boulevard that has some neighbors up in arms. They say allowing cabs to park on both sides of the street trolling for fares causes traffic congestion and noise. One neighbor, who lives in a nearby condominium, started an online petition asking the city to take action and the local Councilwoman has said she supports an effort to address her constituents' concerns.

The city, in its infinite wisdom, gave out too many green taxi permits. There simply is no room to put them.

Poor little spoiled Forest Hills people...used to a more...LOL..genteel life are pissed off.Come to Flushing and see what a good life you pampered brats still have, by stark comparison. At least your streets do not reek of rotting foodstuffs.
Welcome to sanctuary city where real life is finally catching up with you sequestered folks. Take a bite of the rotten apple.
Things could be far worse. We could all be in the midst of a Syrian war zone. We must all learn to be grateful for what we still have.

I'm sure council woman Ronald McDonald will get right on it.

That stand has been there for years people are just complaining now? Who are these people, Transplants? Go back to Kansas!

Stop your fucking moaning. You want to bitch come to fucking Jamaica or any part of the dirty Southeast Queens. You folks have it made in Forest Hills.

it's been there for years with no cabs until the green cabs came. i live close by and don't see a big deal with it. just a few whiny people who have nothing better to do

I live in Forest Hills and don't see what the big deal is all about. Anyone who wants to live near a major transit hub such as 71/Continental needs to deal with all that it comes with, including cabs, lots of commuters waiting for buses, etc. The real thing to consider complain about is the ridiculous bike lane that's going to be out there, causing the loss of a parking lane, and adding chaos.

To Gary W.: Now, please don't insult Ronald McDonald by comparing him to that 'overstuffed knish' on Queens Boulevard, when McDonald actually makes children and people laugh (even if the food doesn't)!

Those people are not happy unless they have something to complain about.
Its been that way forever as back as the 1960 especially around 71 & Continental ave.
How is this suddenly news ?
Not only are these NY1 News "skirts" too young to remember but they are not even from New York having landed their jobs via liberal related clubs & internships.
All the news has become a joke since the corporations merged and got rid of all neighborhood reporters, older conservative pros and editors who let the truth be told. Now even worse because reporters need a "API desk stamped assignment" to cover as story's and must only use politically correct format which now bans certain words and facts not to upset people.

I'm sick and tired and canning all my FIOS TV, internet @ phone. Gonna just get a T-Moble prepaid with some light data for email and ebay shopping.

It's just part of the mayor's plan to remove all parking on Queens Blvd.

Non issue.

Good thing I waited before I chimed in. So with all the congestion in that area. With the crowded sidewalks every day, the claustrophobic traffic on Austin st and a heavily frequented train station, some people are bitching about the cabs using their safety signals on occasion. These have got to be the newbs to the area.

Judging by the footage, it's not even that bad as that wimp interviewed described it and even by the honeypot covering the story, which was pretty long at 5 minutes for some anonymous complaints, incidentally why weren't this alleged group kvetching in the segment?

What do these thin-skinned people want these guys to do? They are green cabs servicing Queens, and those are legit parking spots, it's their livelihood and they have every right to be there.

I couldn't help but notice that's where the unnecessary bike lanes are going to be soon. That may be the underlying reason why. I think the complaints are coming from one of De Faustio's interns who just moved there or even maybe someone from NY1, which has become a quasi-press secretary for the corrupt mayor.

Get rid of those unsightly cabs, it's ruining the vibrancy. Shut up bitches.

Yes, the stand has been there forever, but it seems that lately there are more cabs idling all the time. Perhaps there are too many other transportation modes around so nobody needs these cars and that's why the line is getting longer and longer. This might be a trivial issue now, but maybe it's worth watching. Should they wait until they have random taxi/livery car drivers parking on the side streets and leaving bottles of piss and other trash in front of peoples' houses, like so many other parts of this crappy borough? It doesn't turn to a shitshow overnight, people (even though it might feel that way).

The stand IS NOT SET UP THE SAME WAY AS IN THE PAST. If you were the least bit observant you would realize this. Stand there for 5 minutes and come back to this blog and tell me that you saw nothing wrong. The whole configuration was changed 2 years ago and it's more chaotic today than ever.

how dare you complain about illegal immigrants from Moslem countries. so what if they helped blow up the world trade center on 9/11?

I'm sick and tired and canning all my FIOS TV,

Yep, same here. Fake news, indoctrination, propaganda 24/7.
Monies are disappearing at record levels and the news is taxi stand in Forest Hills.
Or some 2 bit whore entertainer, actress form Hollywood.
Well fuckers, last week when the trains were delayed at least 3 hrs, people took advantage of the taxis.
What is your FUCKING problem?

Idle you car and the fumes enter you lungs. How about cars all day and night ?
The noise and air pollution in this city is terrible and affects a persons health.

I know I tried parking around there and I got so upset that there were like 50 taxi cabs using up all the parking of two blocks! It's so ridiculous! To make it worst is that it's not even close to an airport. I would see if it was by jfk or LaGuardia but forest hills?

Anonymous said...

Too many green taxis for that location. It's causing a bottleneck and blocking traffic including emergency response vehicles and buses.

Joe Moretti said...

So where is the wonderful Borough President Katz, I mean this is her damn hood.

Anonymous said...

Why are there even taxi stands at places other than the airport?

Don't people use Uber? If I need a cab I just get and Uber even if there's a green or yellow cab right there, because Uber is so much better.

Move to Europe where you can practice a healthy lifestyle by running from the migrants.

How has it changed?

"Move to Europe where you can practice a healthy lifestyle by running from the migrants."
We are all migrants in America !

Forest Hill you are not alone !
The noise from the cabs can't beat the torture of the Jets from LGA flying over Whitestone.
Today from 6AM until now at 10PM we have been tortured with noise and air pollution.
NYC sucks the big one if you are looking for quality of life.

The old stand did not have a holding pen across the street. Now it's like a parking garage where the drivers stop traffic so they move their cars over to the actual stand. Pure chaos, esp during rush hours. TLC and DOT rammed this new setup into 71Av without studying and realizing the impact on regular traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Forest Hills taxi stand is pissing off developers

should have been the more accurate title.
The area is experiencing the joys of "luxury living" via various construction projects, condos, luxury high rises.
So the taxi stand has to go!

The best corruption money can buy, is in New York.

Once again, DeBlasio's goal is to slow traffic down to a complete stop.
