From the Times Ledger:
The civic associations in Fresh Meadows have been concerned about the use of three hotels, which are being built in the neighborhood. Noting what is going on in other neighborhoods of Queens, the Fresh Meadows residents have been fearful that the hotels might be turned into homeless shelters. At a meeting arranged by state Sen. Tony Avella, however, the owners of the two Marriott Hotels being built along the north side of the Long Island Expressway at 183rd Street emphatically stated that their hotels are being built as regular hotels.
Avella convened the meeting of representatives from the West Cunningham Park Civic Association, Civic Association of Utopia Estates, Fresh Meadows Homeowners Civic Association, Fresh Meadows Tenants Association, and the East West United Realty in his office. The owners of the two Marriott Hotels explained that they will not rent out to the homeless because they have learned that hotels which take in homeless residents have had vandalism with rooms destroyed. They then can’t get regular hotel guests to rent rooms and when they take in more homeless, they have more vandalism.
One of the hotels will be a Courtyard by Marriott and the other will be a Fairfield Inn. The owners have carefully thought out their plans. They plan to obtain customers from family members who have students in local colleges, family members of people in local hospitals, people passing through and from tour groups who will find it cheaper to rent out rooms in Queens rather than in hotels in New Jersey. It will be a quick ride from Fresh Meadows to Manhattan along the Long Island Expressway. They will also be close to sporting events in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Yes, they are all built as "regular hotels" at first. Then when they aren't successful, they are converted into shelters. If a giant name brand hotel in Maspeth, which is a hop, skip and a jump away from both Manhattan and Flushing Meadows can't attract the budget crowd, then how will one in Fresh Meadows do so?

Oh yes!
Your name is on the guest list and I will respect you in the morning...
Why on earth does Fresh Meadows need 3 hotels?
Sporting events in FMCP? You mean neighborhood soccer leagues? Sprint running from roving gangs after dark? And do they know the Mets, while in the vicinity, are not part of the actual park.
3 hotels? in Fresh Meadows? Even though the residents would not agree, but wouldn't really affordable housing apt. buildings be better, of course with a height and density limit. Is the hunger for city funded profits so alluring that Marriot is willing to ruin their brand?
Quick ride? A daily commute on the LIE to manhattan is a good hour to 90 minutes.
Give me a fucking break. NO one wants to stay in hotels in Queens which are not near any kind of transportation and out of the way. Complete and utter bullshit. And why would you need THREE hotels in Fresh Meadows. And what fucking tourists in this city use cars.
TOTAL QUEENS BULLSHIT.
Vows?
Did he sign an enforceable contract?
Then it's written in piss on a piece of crap!
Play it again, Tony.
Somebody must have his eye on becoming mayor.
Right! Because so many tourists want to stay almost 2 hours from Manhattan!

THIEVES WILL TAKE YOUR TAXES .DID U GET YOUR 2017 property tAX BILL ?FROM Marxist CityCOUNCIL & MAYOR DEb?
Yeh. We've all heard that statement before.
So funny that some posters here are saying its a 2 hour drive from Fresh Meadows to midtown. If you had jobs and weren't anchored in Middle village and Maspeth and commuted during normal business hours during the work week you would know that its 20-25minutes with even moderate traffic on the LIE. Start driving on the the LIE at 7am and the commute is cut down to 15minutes.
The Hotels are up and there staying there and loose cannon Avella can't stop it. These hotels are good for the neighborhood.
Maybe Avella should run for Mayor or is he too scared of being defeated by his frenemy Mayor Dumblasio.
Read this statement three years from now right here on Queens Crap !
December 13th 2016 - "Homeless shelters are being protested in Fresh Meadows !"
I take the LIE from Douglaston and it usually takes 40 minutes to reach the tunnel. I hit the road at 6:45 am.
Fresh Meadows...beware...a homeless shelter will be coming...that is the MO of the DHS.
One, I believe is geared for overseas Chinese students attending Queens College.
The inv-Asian of Queens is in stage 3,
If you come and visit NYC why stay in the outer boroughs?? When the majority come to see Manhattan? My friends from New Zealand they stayed in Manhattan...stores, Broadway, museums and one store owner thought I was a Kiwi...I said oh no...from Queens..I am only here for them...I never come into the city...She agreed my neighbor in Forest Hills.
So yes while the outer boroughs may have events these tourists come for Central Park not Maurice Park
