149th Street bridge reopens

State Senator Tony Avella (D-Queens) announced Wednesday that the 149th Street Bridge has finally reopened.

Senator Avella first learned of the news that morning after the Department of Transportation (DOT) informed him that the long-awaited renovation of the crucial overpass would reopen within the hour. Local merchants and small businesses had expressed concern over the lack of access to their shops and inadequate parking while the bridge was closed.

“While I’m happy that the 149th Street Bridge overpass is finally open, it should not have taken this long. At least now the residents, business owners, and customers can travel on this important access road,” said Senator Avella.

The community has worked to help ensure the bridge’s completion for over five years.

It certainly shouldn't have taken that long! I moved here in 1997 and it was closed shortly thereafter! Hello!!! DOT needs an enema!!!

And in that same 5 years, China built 2 subway systems, an intricate highway system, and a dozen new city centers.

LOL!
Name it the Peter Koo bridge .
5 years to complete?
That beats taking a slow boat to China.

How pathetic. The Empire State building was built in 410 days.

Not to mention how many times RKO Keith changed hands while the bridge fiasco was going on.
Trump would have done it in 6 weeks, what a bunch of losers cutting ribbons and patting each other on the back.

Have you also noticed that the World Trade Center's Freedom Tower is nowhere near completion???

Did the construction workers just come in one day and suddenly realize the job was done?

Anon 7 - Since Avella left the other Democrats to join the IDC, they do this thing where they invite him last minute hoping he can't come to any ribbon cuttings or community events.
I'll let you make your own judgement as to whether that benefits the public at large.

Dear Queenscrap, I thought I mentioned this to you. Would you like to know when the official Ribbon-cutting is scheduled to take place?

I have a letter from a DOT official stating they have added me to their list of ppeople to contact anytime they had any new info to communicate. Needless to say, I TOO was not notified, in advance, of the "Ribbon Cutting."; which as we all now now, from the Queens pprs, it took place Thursday August 4, the day after it oppened, which was Wednesday August 3 12 Noon.
