I don't see this vision zero thing working. It was just all a way to give out more tickets.
I agree. After much fanfare last year, I haven't heard anything about VZ for months.
More like ZERO Vision.
VISION ZERO Sucks. Trucks still drive illegally on residential streets all over, which that alone is a big infraction that this program should have addressed, but did not.
Vision Zero was nothing more than De Bozo trying to make his mark and it's a big fail. The hypocrite changed the speed limit to 25 yet his motorcade was caught speeding through Brooklyn! 25 on a major thoroughfare is unreasonable- try doing it and you have to force yourself. This and the ridiculous loss of valuable parking for hipster bike lanes - like most people say "Zero Vision" - Bozo thinks he's above the law just like with this current story. Same thing happened in May when the community board in Elmhurst voted No to the bike lanes but he told the DOT to begin construction anyways! Unbelievable! DeBozo needs to get the boot.
Vision Zero is a purposeful plan to increase the motorists' misery index to the point at which they either walk, bike, bus or move...
I think the goals of vision zero could have been achieved by just enforcing existing rules.

You haven't gotten any tickets in the mail for driving at a safe speed on a major roadway because it happens to be several blocks from a school?
The decision was well put. You cannot use a civil tort liability negligence standard to supplement the criminal intent aspect necessary for a criminal conviction. Another example of the sheer brilliance and integrity of this administration with regards to understanding the law (sarcasm).

As a parent of a young child I can understand that being as aggressive as NYC drivers often are, it's important to slow them down. Meanwhile, the city is huge and many depend on their cars to get to work because they may be commuting from, say, their home in the East Bronx to their job in south Brooklyn or Staten Island. It would take five hours to commute each way by buses and subways. Driving 25 MPH on Woodhaven or Queens Boulevards, or Ocean Parway is so unfair to countless commuters. But who cares, car drivers are discriminated against by the DoT. Just look at all the empty dedicated bike lanes everywhere in the outer Boroughs, right next to traffic clogged streets.
If you're out at night,whatever activity,wear something reflective and get your head out of yor ass.
Vision zero is exactly what the name states...NO VISION!
I bet I'm not the only one who has options for the Mayor to consider that are likely not on his list!

Vision Zero is so dam stupid causing people now to hit someone and keep going. Most people do not leave they house saying I am going to hit someone walking in a crosswalk today. Has anyone ever heard of an accident. Now our dumbass Mayor thinks that arresting drivers who stay on the scene is going to help hit and runs. In my opinion it causes more people to flee. Most drivers have never been booked and processed in our prison system it is horrible. Yeah giving people arrest records will really help vision zero. Please!!!

As I read the definitions in the law, negligence does not require a specific criminal intent. I suspect the city will appeal and the VZ will continue.
Damn. I only rarely had the misfortune to drive in NYC, which is miserable at best, but the speed limits are insane. By insane, I mean the mayor is a doo doo head with bat guano brains. I am in Europe, where I enjoy a sane limit of 31 mph (50 kph) in cities. Europe overall has a lower death rate from traffic events (9.3 per 100k inhabitants) compared to the US (10.6 per 100k i.). In countries where the law is rigorously enforced there are very low death rates (Germany, 4.3 per 100k i.), and in countries where the limits are broken quite liberally by rather wide margins, it's still lower (Poland, 10.3 per 100k i.).
