Kim wants to crack down on tow trucks

From the Queens Chronicle:

Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Flushing) announced on Thursday that he is introducing legislation to fight predatory towing.

“For far too long, innocent drivers across this city dealt with over-zealous towing operators that illegally targeted vehicles, often over-charging drivers and only accepting cash,” the assemblyman said in a prepared statement.

The legislation — titled the Predatory Towing Prevention Act — “will improve the current outdated and inadequate law against illegal towing practices and empower the City to act swiftly and decisively against predatory towers,” he added. It will be introduced before the end of the current Legislative session, according to Kim spokesman Tony Cao.

To combat predatory towing in the future, the bill aims to do several things: raise the consumer protection bond to a minimum of $50,000 and maximum of $250,000; end the usage of "spotting" techniques; require towing truck operators to receive written permission from the manager or owner of commercial or private property before a vehicle can be towed; and empower the commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs to revoke repeat offenders' licenses.

That's because all of his own people love to park where they shouldn't be parking. They will park in front of someone's driveway as long as they get a spot.

He wants to stop the plastic bag fee so his constituents can continue to litter Flushing with more red baggies and now he wants to stop towing cars so his constituents can park freely illegally without consequence.

Talk about a quality politician!

This bill seems to be in regard to the practices of some strip malls along Northern Boulevard. They are notorious from LIC out for using spotting and towing as a profit center. It's about time it's being addressed.

These tow truck operators are worse then animals, they also cause fatal accidents rushing to accidents to "hook" car's.
Collision company hand these vultures $375 - $1000 cash plus a commission on the repair bill to bring them a car atop of what they sock the drivers.
Its about time some law is enacted !!

kims talking about collision tows (because Asians can drive for shit)
These gorilla thug tow drivers have been free to race through Queens streets to hook, bamboozel and or intimidate people for too long. This because If under 18,000 lbs GVW standard class D or E drivers license is all that's needed to operate a tow rig. 99% of the time the these tow company's hire thugs fresh out of Rikers or on parole to scare the Chinese into paying big cash.

A lot of racist pricks on this page. I understand the issues you bring up but your delivery makes you worthy of a smackdown

The rotation tow program was started over 34 years ago for this reason. There aren't enough cops, more specifically, highway patrolcops,to enforce the program.

Isn't this an NYC issue? why is a State assemblyman involved?

How about a moratorium on over development instead of a smokescreen bill to divert attention from the fact that Kim has done nothing worthwhile since he took office warming a bench? How about legislation against Korean whore houses on 164the Street and Crocheron Ave? Oops, that touches HIS people. Will never happen. Asians hate losing face and admitting the illegal activities that their race has been perpetrating since the settled (invaded?) Flushing and its environs. NO , I'm not a racist...just truthful...and if the truth hurts...too bad!
Do something useful Dem clubhouse stooge, Kim!

I routinely see (Korean) people park in the Stop & Shop parking lot in Little Neck but then walk across the street to have coffee and pastries in Koryodang, rather than park on the street and have to walk a block or two. If they haven't gotten towed yet, they've been lucky, but once they do they'll probably blame unfair towing practices.

Whorehouses are already illegal. Looks like. A good bill to me.

But the crooked 109th pct isn't cracking down on these illegal whorehouses. In fact, they have been part of the protection squad that allows them to exist. Two of their Chinese cops were arrested for running interference for a local Chinese madam.
Hmmmm...and the Commander Confortii gets replaced at the 109th. Is this a punishment or just the usual two year stint at the "promotion precinct where commanders are constantly changed like underwear but the career crooked cops tremain to do their dirty work?

Ron Kim lets his own kind destroy our neighborhoods, this is what this is all about.

Seriously though, one only has to drive out east past exit 36 on the LIE or any parkway for that matter to see the endless stream of terrible white drivers.

Kim was lit up on this issue because of a particular predatory towing operation in North Flushing at the Murray Hill shopping center.

The guy (who happens to be named Frank and is a part of AAA Automotive based in Bushwick) would regularly barge into the kids tutoring room at the McGoldrick library and hit parents with fines up to $400.

The maximum for illegal parking (private lot) is about $100, I believe. Kim did a press conference in the lot but 'ol Frank is still extorting old ladies for hundreds of dollars, even against those who dare to stop at the mailbox after utilizing the shopping area itself. After they shop in the lot, mail a letter a few feet off the property, then find their car being dragged down Roosevelt.

I personally called the police several times on 'ol Frank, including the time he sent his truck down a one way street (the wrong way) just to get a car on the lift, careening past about 50 kids in front of McGoldrick Library.

And I don't even own a car!

Just another dirty NY politician. Ron Kim needs to be in handcuffs. I hope he gets indicted soon.
