School buses get stuck in snow

From PIX11:

Multiple school buses became stuck in the snow Monday as they tried to traverse snowy streets in Queens, the borough hardest hit by the weekend's blizzard.

Residents were furious over unplowed streets and the mayor's move to keep schools open despite the record-breaking storm.

"We make one decision for a school system of 1.1 million kids," Mayor Bill de Blasio said, defending the move to keep class in session, during a midday news conference.

PIX11 News viewers in Middle Village and Woodhaven reported seeing school buses getting bogged down in the slushy mess that still coated the roadways during the morning commute.

Requests for comment from the city's Department of Education were not returned by the time of publication.

Too bad January 25th was not a Muslim Holiday, then school would have been closed, but why close it just because there are dangerous conditions in Queens from an incompetent Mayor and staff that did not deal with the snow problem like a true leader would have.

From the World's Borough to the forgotten borough.

We have become Pluto, the real lonely planet.

Surely, someone is gaining something from keeping the schools open. However, For the kids and parents of Queens, it's frustration and misery.

Who needs school anyway? The dumber future Queens' voters get, the easier it is for shady politicians to fleece the sheeple.

CORONA< QUEENS is still mostly buried under 2 feet of snow. Plows still haven't cleaned our streets. The city's cleanup efforts were a total failure for this borough. The mayor gets a big fat 'F' .

"Who needs school anyway"
Who else is going to babysit the 500,000 or so feral offspring of illegal immigrants ? Thats all schools are now.

I for the life of me do not understand all this animus directed against Mayor de Blasio. My historical site in Queens is almost a ghost town and yet the Sanitation Department did a bang up job clearing the roadway to my lonely existence TWO days ago.

Check out the great work as I cordially welcome your visit here.
Not too shabby at the hill's summit here. Wouldn't you say?
Even the downhill looks pretty good to me, no?
So what's everybody hollerin' about?

And my 42nd Street side was treated EXTRA nicely.

I can't complain. So what's the big deal?

It's all just very strange. The "Mayor" and his Sanitation Commisioner both said that Queens' streets are too narrow to plow. Excuse me? I've been on the same "too narrow to plow" street for 23 years now. This is the first time that my street was "too narrow to plow". Is "too narrow to plow" anything like "too big to fail" or "too dumb to succeed"?
Note to Mayor: Billy, ya blew it. Stop blaming others. Stop making up ridiculous excuses and accept the fact that neither you, nor the team you've assembled, are up to the task of properly serving New York City.

For the record, 41st Street in front of the Steinway Mansion - a 2-way street! - is only 12 feet wide. See here. And it was plowed. Check out the Steinway Mansion's comments in the post above.

Anybody know what the NARROWEST street in Queens is?

Let's all remember this when/if the Mayor runs for re-election!

I live in Elmhurst on one of the streets that wasn't plowed. Funny how my street shrunk this year. I've lived on this street for 45 years and if was ALWAYS plowed! Did NYC replace the old sanitation trucks with much wider ones this year?

Shades of John Lindsay!

To paraphrase Gertrude Stein: "A dumba@@ is a dumba@@ is a dumba@@. Tooting his own horn about what a great job his people did cleaning up NYC streets, and keeping school open before this was adequately done. Those are the field markings of a true dumba@@io.

Not defending deBlasio, but re the school closing, he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Two things he has to consider when deciding to open or close schools: 1) if they close, many kids system wide have no breakfast and lunch--those may be their only meals for the day 2) parents have to lose a day's pay to be home with them. I know Queens got screwed, it's just that a large number of kids in other areas could still get to school via public transit

Valentine Place in Glendale gets my vote for narrowest ,and shortest, street in Queens.

That's right. The sanitation commissioner is waiting for warmer weather.
Yep. That's it. We just pray to....to get warmer weather.
The mayor is blaming the residents for throwing too much snow on the streets!!!!
Of course collecting money for parking is still on.
Streets are too narrow, too much snow, excuses galore.
In Manhattan the streets were cleaned on Tuesday - finally.
Is time to vote these fuckers the fuck out of office.

Did anyone hear this tone deaf bon mot from Mayor Big Slow?

"New Yorkers and Impatience go together"

Fuck you, you neoliberal pile of shit. Remember this forever when the next storm comes, when a relative gets mugged, a woman gets raped or violated, a child gets shot, or when traffic gets worse, et al.

L.I.C. is reportedly pristine since it had to be clear for the mayor's condescending joyride, and surprise surprise so is Park Slope.

And all the snow that was just too hideous a sight for every luxury residential or commercial high rise in Midtown, particularly 5th,Madison,6th, Lexington and 3rd has vanished. This is where all the plows and dumpsters were in the past 48 hours, disposing of the snow these properties were pushing into the street, while all you impatient new yorkers in queens were stewing on twitter.

Fuck you Blaz. That will be your last verbal gaffe.

The city has found a unique way to plow on 201st street in Bayside from 48th to 53rd avenue. There are signs posted everywhere that say no parking - construction. when I walked to the bus today those poor homeowners were all shoveling out their cars so they could move them to another street. And workers were busy tearing up the street with heavy machinery (snow and all). No pavement on the street = no snow. Plow problem solved.

32nd Street about a block above Astoria Boulevard, George?

What about the imbeciles who throw snow back in the street after it has been plowed ?
I see this happening more often and it should be meet with heavy fines !
If you know what I mean...

My streets are clean but that's because the 45 degree weather we had today melted it all away. Thank you Dibl-ASS-io !!

You could always have fire fighters do the shoveling for you, just like Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro. And then he was mad when it was leaked to the press.

Duh Blasio will pop an extra antidepressant and take an extra long snooze until it's all over.
Then he will come to see me at my office in the morning.

Like the Sanitation Dept.?

Almost lost control of the car tonight at 20mph on the Northern Blvd bridge in Flushing because some assholes decided the plows should move the snow into the lanes!!!! All 3 of them!
They doing it in Flushing all over the place!
So if you have a car that's lower to the ground good luck.
If it freezes tonight those mounds in the middle of the street will be hard like concrete barriers.
I have never ever seen such incompetence, lack of care, lack of common sense and contempt in my life.
Just praying that nobody gets hurt tonight by the insanity demonstrated by the so called officials in charge.
