Raises all around

From CBS 2:

Mayor Bill de Blasio has accepted recommendations by a panel that city elected officials should get raises in exchange for a ban on outside jobs.

De Blasio sent a letter to City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito on Wednesday formally accepting the recommendations of the independent Quadrennial Commission.

The three-person panel recommended a 23 percent, or $25,815, raise for City Council members, which would raise their pay from $112,500 to $138,315 a year.

The commission also recommended banning most outside employment for Council members in order to prevent conflicts of interest.

De Blasio’s salary would rise by 15 percent, or more than $33,000, from $225,000 to $258,750 under the recommendations. But de Blasio has said he will not accept a raise this term.

Mark-Viverito’s salary would rise 37 percent.

Let me get this straight, with the exception of a few, very few council-members, many are totally useless and do very little for their communities or constituents as far as addressing issues, several are corrupt and crooked only trying to pad their pockets and others are just completely incompetent political whores.

So based on this, our idiot Mayor is going to give a big raise based on incompetency and bad behavior.

Yep, sounds right to me.

Un-Freaking-believable... This makes absolutely ZERO sense... These people routinely screw over the "average" citizen of the city, do nothing to better our city, and then proceed to give themselves 25% and more in raises!! This city is OUT OF CONTROL!

Commission Chaired by Fritz Schwarz, Chief Counsel at the Brennan Center

NEW YORK—As required by the City’s Administrative Code, Mayor Bill de Blasio today appointed an independent Quadrennial Advisory Commission for the review of compensation levels of elected officials, chaired by Frederick A.O. (“Fritz”) Schwarz, Jr., the Chief Counsel at the Brennan Center for Justice.

Per Administrative Code § 3-601, it is required that the Mayor appoint a three-person commission for the review of compensation levels of elected officials every four years. The members of the commission must be private citizens generally recognized for their knowledge of management and compensation. The Commission is required to study and potentially recommend changes to the compensation levels for the mayor, public advocate, comptroller, borough presidents, council members, and district attorneys.

The three-member commission includes leading experts in management and compensation from three major New York City-based organizations:

Fritz Schwarz, the Chief Counsel at the [NYU Law] Brennan Center for Justice, who will chair the Commission;

Jill Bright, Chief Administrative Officer at Condé Nast; Ms. Bright received her ... MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business.

and Paul Quintero, Chief Executive Office at ACCION EAST, Inc, a non-profit that works to empower low- to moderate-income business owners with access to capital and financial education.

The Commission will report back with its recommendations in November 2015. ###

So the economy is heading for a major depression, Macy's, Walmart, GE, etc all cutting costs, closing stores, selling part of their business, the market lost like 2500 points from it's high and these useless politicos are giving themselves are raise?
Some nerve. No wonder things are the way they are.
For some reason they are all ignoring the stark reality.
That's how out of touch the whole gang is.
Vote them out!

Sarcasm we have no voice

The voters must stay on the council's back and make sure they are earning their pay. Call their office. E-mail them. Write letters. Don't give up until you get satisfaction. After all, we are paying their salaries and we must demand nothing less than a full hard day's work from them.

So, since we're all mad as hell, when's the mass protest in front of City Hall?

So Stinky will have to take a formal leave of absence from the family lobby-, oops, law firm? And they never talk business when the family visits Stinky's house, right?

There will be TWO votes.

Those who continue to vote with their feet, and those who vote these "wonderful" elected officials, working so hard serving the needs of the masses in the city, especially those who cannot speak English or find a job, right back into their positions with a 23% raise...

ITS TIME FOR A GOOD OLD-FASHION AMERICAN PROTEST. THE TAXPAYERS SHOUKD HAVE HAD A SAY IN THIS PAY RAISE. I WANT TO SEE AN ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW JUST LIKE THE ONES HARD WORKING TAXPAYERS ARE SUBJECT TO. YOUR PAY RAISE IS PEGGED TO YOUR PERFORMANCE.

When I was working, I never had the luxury of voting for my pay raise. The people who were paying me did. That's why we, the people should vote on whether or not to raise the pay of people who are supposed to Work for Us.

The lesson being?
Run for the city council.
Great medical coverage too.
AND...it is only a part time job.
Then, think of all the money you can score ,under the table, from REBNY.
Paul Vallone makes thousands off of his REBNY clients.
Talk about great opportunities for council members to network with wealthy crooks.
REBNY runs NYC.
Council members are just their waiters.
LOL! Look at Jimmy Van Bramer. Why is he so happy and gay?
Because REBNY has sponsored his elections.

I am not sure I can make it to the protest, I have to be at work...

I gave up a long time ago, moved out and never looked back.
Once truly great city,no more, just a tourist destination now.

So the only things that will progress are their salaries. Most of them are great when it comes to photo-ops but little else, e.g. homelessness, education, housing, wages, jobs etc., etc. etc. The NYC elected officials suck!!!

Some of them have only a HS diploma. And they sound and act like it too.
