Habitat for humanity rehabbing Queens houses for MLK day
From CBS News:
Habitat for Humanity volunteers are working through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend rehabbing a home in Laurelton, Queens.
Volunteer Craig Bannister told The Associated Press it’s a meaningful way to remember King.
“Volunteering is a way that brings people from different backgrounds — ethnically, racially, economically — together to work to a common goal,” he said. “So I think it’s important to really do that to remind us that we’re all really the same.”
Habitat for Humanity purchased more than a dozen homes in New York City that had been empty for more than a decade.

Oh joy another free house for an illegal alien.
are there any blacks working on this house? Or is it all deluded white liberals-
DWL?
Good for them, but HfH has a long history of not doing much in NYC/NJ/LI, and its by choice. its simply too expensive to build housing here, even subsidized and volunteer, they usually don't bother. I've worked with some of the chapters here, and 95% of their efforts are getting good value on the land to build. The actual building of a house is the easy part.
They understand the efforts of the organization are better spent elsewhere in the country. Its just not worth it in NY.
The best way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King is with JUSTICE shown by the police towards Black men.
All day I had to listen to the usual platitudes, gospel singing etc.
The day America finally agrees that Black lives also matter will be the best honoring of Dr. King's legacy.
Meanwhile this is a good solid thing....work instead of pretty words.
King was a hard worker. This rehabbing is a salute to his memory.
I didn't grow up with a MLK,I grew up with Al Sharpton, were they anything alike ?
So what's your point?
No they were not alike.
Maybe their goals were.
I often wonder what Doctor King wold have thought and said regarding the looting, vandalizing, and burning areas of Ferguson Missouri to the ground.
Just like Michael Brown's stepfather instructed as he turned to the crowd of demonstrators, saying, "Burn this motherf---er down" and "Burn this bitch down," according to a New York Times video.
The comments by Brown's stepfather, Louis Head, came shortly before the eruption of rage by protesters turned felons
Numerous businesses on West Florissant Avensue were engulfed in flames. Police cars and vehicles at a nearby dealership were turned into fireballs. There were so many blazes that firefighters could not reach every one.
Perhaps it would be appropriate for Habitat for Humanity to rebuild some homes in ferguson, thereby giving back a very little bit for all of the carnage created by the BLM violence and riots.
There is quite a stark difference between Doctor King's constitutional peaceful petitioning for a redress of grievances and an entire neighborhood destroyed...

My take on this commenter's remark is that MLK was entirely on the up-and-up and his goals were all about gaining equality for all Blacks. Whereas, Sharpton is all about Sharpton and how many "goodies" he can squirrel away while playing Robin Hood. He is so transparently narcissistic -- interested only in promoting himself. IMHO only his "reverend" title keeps him out of jail. That and the fact that he knows where all the bones are buried.
