Bayside Burger King bites the dust
Dear QC,
In case you're interested, looks like a large retail development is going to replace the Burger King location near the Cross Island entrance on Northern Blvd. Safe to say this will generate more traffic here, but I am a little relieved it is not going to be residential.

It's going to be a Korean shopping center...as opposed to an American one.
Huh? Bk is closing? This really sucks....it's been there forever....I remember when there was a Roy Rogers right around there too. I hope they won't put in more asian crap there!
Same thing for the one on 146th and northern.
The new structure will resemble a whopper. Large, cumbersome, and four or five layers tall. The contents of the 5 story structure will be of questionable origin and quality.
Seriously, no reason not believe that it won't be subdivided into a strip mall of massage parlors, gambling dens and internet cafés with dollar signs in the window (assuming there will be windows).
I don't get it. Are these properties rented and their leases not being renewed??
I believe it is in the Constitution (not sure which Article)...any one story structure with space around it must be destroyed and replaced with some monstrous crap.
I know its just a Burger King but I will say it anyways,..........
PROGRESSIVES SUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111
C'mon, BK and Mickey D's are dying institutions. They serve shit food that poisons America with saturated fats.
Besides, this is underutilized land. A crummy one story building temps developers with a footprint and zoning that allows mega development.
Bayside is finally getting butt f---d just like Flushing.
Hmmmm, and you refused to think it could happen in beautiful Bayside. LOL! The laugh's on you now.
BK wasn't bad in the past, but I tried a Whopper a few months ago and it was disgusting. Same for Mickey D's sickening Big Mac. This is not the type of food that should be consumed by humans of any age. So as far as this local resident is concerned, it's Goodbye and Good Riddance to yet another fast junk food emporium, and Welcome to any new establishments bringing fresh blood to the area.
And as for all anti-progress NIMBYers, as well as all anti-Asian bigots, you're running out of places to run. So get used to new developments and new people or leave NYC to those of us who embrace them.
And to anyone who doubt the fact that Progressives are vile, here is a link to what is now facing Europe and will soon face us. We have been betrayed [and resistance to the betrayal is called 'racism'] !!!

If any of you believe it will ONLY be retail trust me a slight alteration is on the way.
The shopping center in Elmhurst that has the ALDI, CostCo Staples was only supposed to be a Home Depot. In community meetings that fell thru due to to much truck traffic and not enough square feet for Home despot. Then the said a supermarket, then a multistore retail mall (like Queens Center) then we got what we got there now(promise of no residential) Now its one of the tallest and most expensive residential buildings in the area, maybe in Queens. It'll happen in Bayside.
The precedent has been set no going back Queens is Manhattan East
And as for all anti-progress NIMBYers, as well as all anti-Asian bigots, you're running out of places to run. So get used to new developments and new people or leave NYC to those of us who embrace them.
Hahahaha that's a good one. I guess you call Flushing a progress.
Have to agree, has gotten progressively worst.
You also have to rethink the bigot remark, me personally have no issues with any ethnic group or race.
However I can tell you first hand going into some of the stores around - 1. No signs in english or very small. 2. Getting dirty looks and quoted big prices, about twice what one of their own would get.
Having said that there are plenty of stores where service or merchandise is good or above good.
Loss of this Burger King is no big deal, food was bad and the place wasn't tidy.
The one in Flushing, on Northern Blvd/147th street is much better, sorry to see that one go especially when apartment buildings are slated for the space.
Just what we needed. Extra congestion and gridlock.
Hard to shed a tear for the demise of an ugly building surrounded by a parking lot. This is one lot that would be improved by something better being built there.
There's congestion because people drive everywhere. There are plenty of bus lines that stop in front of that location. If you don't want congestion, stop driving five blocks to get a whopper value meal with large fries and a diet coke.
The new development will cause traffic in an area that's not made for that amount of people and commerce. It's a residential area with small amount of commerce. Look at how Flushing was morphed into something it wasn't developed to be.
It's not about driving to the store and using your car. Its about having attractions which bring in more people than an area can support. When you break those designs, you get what is happening at Rego Centre. They completely underestimated the amount of traffic and people that would congest the area and have now over saturated an area that was over saturated to begin with.
Obviously this was done with full knowledge from the developers and their paid shills in county government.
There's congestion because people drive everywhere
Wrong. Is called urban planning. You have a certain square mile per area and the race is on how many people can we cram in.
Here are the numbers:
11354, 11355, 11357 area codes - Population density: 28,868 people per square mile.
Just for kicks here are the car stats:
Average number of cars or other vehicles available in houses/condos:
This neighborhood: 1.0
New York: 1.8
Average number of cars or other vehicles available in apartments:
Here: 0.5
New York: 0.6
Finally here is an interesting stat:
There are "over 200 places of worship in a small urban neighborhood about 2.5 square miles (6.3 square kilometers)."[70] "Flushing has become a model for religious pluralism in America, says R. Scott Hanson, a visiting assistant professor of history at the State University of New York at Binghamton and an affiliate of the Pluralism Project at Harvard University."
(200 is probably much more by now).
To sum it up because of the fact that too many people are living in a relatively small area there will be congestion, gridlock no matter what.
Now add the malls, the big condos and will likely be way too much for the area to handle.
So this is what they have in mind for Bayside now.
They ran out of room in Flushing.
I don't mind the Asians, they bring great culture with them. Too bad bayside is becoming more developed, losing open spaces...etc
oh and you wanna know why everything is becoming Asian on Bayside/Flushing? Bc white girls want to have careers instead of families and kids. What happened to the days of 5-6 kids? Now people say they can't afford kids but they have 2 cars on lease... the chickens are just coming home to roost.
And nobody said shit when Lakeside Towers intruded upon the scene in the...was it the late 1950s?
That was a fine example of zone busting way back then.
Nobody gets it yet. Northen Blvd. is scheduled to become as densely built up as Queens Blvd.
The problem is that Northern Blvd. is much narrower.
Politicians , i.e. like the Vallone family, keep silent as long as they get their money from developers.
"Here are the numbers:

Just for kicks here are the car stats: . . ."
Only problem is we're discussing Bayside, 11361, not any of the Flushing area codes. Also, this area code has one of the highest car ownership rates in the City. http://www.nycedc.com/blog-entry/new-yorkers-and-cars
Think your numbers about cars per apt/house may have figures from NY as a State, which would increase the car ownership numbers.
Driving on Northern Blvd will become a nightmare very soon !
Only problem is we're discussing Bayside, 11361,
No shit Jack. you are discussing the area like is a separate entity.
Flushing running out of real estate they need to expand.
Here is the real reason why is a bad idea:
Area code 11361
Land area: 1.8 sq. mi.
Population density: 17,402 people per square mile (very high).
"And as for all (you) anti-progress NIMBYers, as well as all anti-Asian bigots, you're running out of places to run."
Ahh, yes. NIMBY. The favorite word of the development cartel. Ironically, spelled backwards could mean: You Better Manage Infrastructure Now.
Bigots? No, the purveyors of squalor are the bigots. Foregetting all aboutr the slum they created on their commutes back to Suffolk every night, ya know, far from asians.
"So get used to new developments and new people or leave NYC to those of us who embrace them."
Already did, 30 years ago. Where were you? And its funny trying to sit in some Asian bars for a lark and being told you aren't welcome, ya know, not embraced.
Bucolic Bayside is getting buggered like Flushing has three decades past.
Just rub some KY on your sphincter to ease the pain a little.
Where has...LOL...."Bayside Village" gone?
A long time passing!
I'm just lovin' seein' Bayside get its come uppace.
Welcome to the club.
"No shit Jack. you are discussing the area like is a separate entity.
Flushing running out of real estate they need to expand."
Never said it was a separate entity. Just curious that every other zip code was listed, but not the one we're actually discussing. If you forgot to list it or just didn't know what zip code we're discussing, just fess up.
The population density is high, but we're talking about a city, let's not forget that context. Compared to other areas of the City, it's actually low.
Hope they make way for a new Chipotle. I love tainted meat !!
There is a new Chipotle that is supposed to open in Jackson Heights on the corner of Northern Blvd & 88th street. I wonder how long it will last. They haven't exactly figured out the cause of the E. Coli outbreak.
oh and you wanna know why everything is becoming Asian on Bayside/Flushing? Bc white girls want to have careers instead of families and kids. What happened to the days of 5-6 kids? Now people say they can't afford kids but they have 2 cars on lease... the chickens are just coming home to roost.
Are you kidding me? Lol....I'm a white girl who would love to have a kid but men are not men anymore and have become lazy bums who only want sex....so think before you start blaming women for working when a lot of men (my age atleast are bums who refuse bro work)
*** If you forgot to list it or just didn't know what zip code we're discussing, just fess up.***
I gave you the reason.
Flushing is running out of space!
Comprende?
I forgot more about the area than you'll ever know.
*** the population density is high, but we're talking about a city, let's not forget that context. Compared to other areas of the City, it's actually low.***
Per square mile is very high. What areas would you like to compare?
Go for it.
And is not the cars either.
Too many people, limited space.
That is the problem.
OVER DEVELOPMENT for profit! Queens is next.
Whether is malls, stadiums, condos, apartment buildings or shopping centers.
But hey no worries, the city will collect their taxes, the developers will collect their profits, only the poor bastards stuck in the neighborhoods will feel their quality of life go down the drain.
Like tonight with drivers stuck on Cross Island because of flooding.
Now why is that? They did upgrade the sewer system not too long ago.
@Bnc626
Best come back ever!
You definitely need to have kids to enhance the gene pool!
To Bnc 626; I'm sorry you've had less than ideal experiences with men. They're/we're not all like that/bad.
Burger King closed? The McDonald's on Horace Harding also closed as well, its been empty for several months, no new tenants. Most new tenants are Asian retail or restaurants. No surprise given the demographics of Bayside, Douglaston, and Fresh Meadows is becoming more Asian with each passing year.
There used to a be a nice diner up a the road there as well but its a now a Korean or a Japanese restaurant. Oh well.
A long time ago, maybe about 20 years ago, Bayside was a white enclave in a mostly minority borough of Queens, now Bayside has melded with the rest of Queens to become a mostly minority neighborhood. The only thing is that real estate prices have gone into the stratosphere, house prices here are actually more expensive than prime areas of the country like San Francisco and Silicon Valley and so are rents, and this has traditionally been a working class white neighborhood.
Working class people cannot afford this place anymore. The same with some other white enclaves in Queens, particularly Astoria and Forest Hills, the latter was actually well off for a while, but now that is place is ridiculous as well.
It does not surprise me that white middle class residents have been leaving in large numbers over the years, they cannot afford this place. Many people accused the white middle class residents of racism, but in reality when this place was white, my neighbors usually spoke to me and said hello, actually smiled. Most of my Asian neighbors never would extend such courtesy.
Any news on the Burger King closing and what's coming in? It's been pretty quiet. I did hear a while back BK was losing their lease.
