From the Times Ledger:
State. Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) and community leaders say they are against a pedestrian plaza proposed for the street across from the McGoldrick Library in Flushing.
In 2014, the Korean American Association of Queens applied to the city Department of Transportation to permanently close the street in front of the library on Roosevelt Avenue between 155th Street and Northern Boulevard and make a pedestrian plaza with tables and chairs.
The plaza would also be on Leonard Square, which honors Corporal William A. Leonard, a Flushing resident and World War I veteran.
Avella attended the trial street closure Friday, which he said he learned of only a day earlier and found that the area had too little pedestrian traffic to warrant a plaza and limited room to reroute traffic to avoid congestion.
“I only found out about this on Thursday and my first reaction was, ‘What idiot came up with this?’” he said during a news conference Monday afternoon.
He places the blame on the DOT and elected officials who support the proposal, saying they should know better than to support a plaza in an area with a lot of traffic and without sufficient community input.
He said state Sen. Toby Stavisky (D-Flushing), one of the supporters of the proposal, should be “ashamed of herself.”
“I fault the city and I fault any elected official who tried to sneak this through,” he said.
Mike Favilla, Stavisky’s chief of staff, said the proposal does not concern Avella.
“Tony Avella has made more crazy allegations than Donald Trump and now he’s at it again,” Favilla said in a statement. “Considering that Tony only received 52 percent of the vote in his last primary, perhaps he should spend more time in his own district rather than looking for fights elsewhere.”
At the trial street closure last week, Stavisky and City Councilman Peter Koo (D-Flushing) said they were unaware of opposition to the proposal but that they would meet with community leaders to discuss it.
City Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside) supports the proposal as well.
It's more than a pedestrian plaza with tables and chairs. They also want vendor stalls. Because there's nowhere else in Flushing to buy cheap junk right now.

The only people who stand to benefit from the pedestrian plaza are the owners of Jongro BBQ because now they get outdoor seating for their restaurant and the officials they bribed to put through this stupid plaza.
Anyone who lives in the hood know it's a dangerous area and would never let kids run around on that stretch of Northern Blvd.
This piece was taken from the August 6 issue of The Korea Times
"A proposed project in Queens for a Koreatown Plaza has hit a roadblock. The project, slated to be located at Leonard Square on Northern Boulevard and 156th Street, has been met with resistance from the local Broadway-Flushing Homeowners’ Association, which sent a letter to the New York Department of Transportation and the Community Board

Since when is Leonard Square known as Koreatown Plaza? Vallone and Stavisky are supportive of this?
Well after the old asians got kicked out of mcdonalds, they do need a new meeting place.....so maybe that will be sufficient enough for the warm weather for them! And guess what? There's no time limit! Lol
Enough already with these dumb pedestrian plazas! We have hundreds of city parks and sitting squares where people can sit and relax . I seriously believe these plazas are being used to pander for votes from immigrant communities. Enough already! Use the parks!
Is it true that Paul Vallone funded the application process/study for the Korean American Association of Queens to apply for the pedestrian plaza? It's not in his district?
We're a colony for the new arrivals from asia to exploit and amuse themselves with, Julia Harrison said that many years ago she was correct...
Pedestrian Plazas = garbage, illegal knock off vendors and pigeon feeding. Just go to Main St. and check out those really awesome pedestrian plazas and you will see. p.s. don't wear open toed shoes or flip flops.
Both Stavisky and Vallone are trawling for Korean American votes.
Here are two political dynasties which are desperate to remain in the business of fleecing their constituents.
What other business could Toby and Paul go into?
At least Vallone. Is a lawyer. Toby Stavisky's only credentials, at her age, are living off her late husband Leonard's good name.
Toby is a hand me down Stavisky....nowhere like her husband who cared.
She only cares to keep her brat son Evan in the family business and bilk the crowd until her time comes.
Now for Don Chooch Vallone:
The Korean vote amounts to about 7% , as I have been told...and a lot of those Korean voters are displeased with his representation.
Vallone barely slid into home base to get elected.
By kissing up to gain what percentage of the Korean American vote he alienates his core community constituency.
This action proves that he is definitely the dumbest of the Vallone sons.
Do you really want this butt head in the city council for a second term?
Vote for anyone else but Vallone. His egotistical sense of entitlement shows that his main concern is for himself....and of course....his developer clients. A developers' lobbyists should not be representing you.
The Feds ought to investigate Toby Stavisky's North Flushing Senior Center.
A large girth and a big mouth seems to be all that Toby has to offer these days. She's been hiding out in Albany with the rest of the pack of crooks.
Avella is blowing the whistle on some of these games going on. That's why she is pissed off at him.
Bravo Tony!
It is everyone's business to expose corruption...IN OR OUT of one's district.
Tony picked up,a rock and discovered a few snakes under it.
Do they go by the name of Vallone, Koo, Stavisky? Slither....slither....slither! Hmmmm....no more rocks to,hide under...eh?
LOL!
How about a pedestrian plaza at "Studley Triangle"?
Where is that?
162nd Street at the intersection of Crocheron and Northern.
That would be the only location more idiotic than Leonard Square.
I am sure that the KAAQ will drum up some sort of anti Asian accusation to level against the opponents of this folly.
Perhaps they already have. When you have no real argument you can always pull the race card to cloud over the real issue.
I would like to see what the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and all the other vets orgs have to say about
the disrespect of a war memorial.
Let's put a hot dog stand next to the Viet Nam memorial wall in Washington D.C. with a few bistro tables and chairs.
Leonard Square is a reflective spot, not a commercial Starbucks type venue.
Besides, there is already a coffee shop in the Murray Hill shopping center..."Paris Baguette".
Maybe we should have let communist China invade and take Korea and not lost any American lives during the Korean conflict.
There you go. Now you have your "racist" post!
And Toby Stavisky has lied to and screwed her constituents for years, behind their backs.
Vallone is stupid and Stavisky is losing it.
This is a very dangerous area to have a pedestrian plaza.
What we have here is two extremely pedestrian political thinkers if not out and out crooks.
Both have egos the size of a football field.
Toby has got to have some set of balls telling Avella to mind his own business.
Paul Vallone stuck his nose outside his district and it looks like he funded the study for the plaza.
That makes it fair game for Avella to do the same
Senator Moby Stavisky.....that smelly old codfish...... doesn't like it when someone beats her to her own game.
Hey Moby, you cannot erase what is being said on Queens Crap.
It is not like the old days when the Stavisky team stole all the weekly newspapers they could get their hands on because something unfavorable about them was printed.
Face it old girl...you have had it. Hang onto another term. You are history soon.
As far as son Evan...he will never run for office. He's a cranky hissy fit throwing adolescent that can never manage to warmly work a crowd.
If Paul Vallone did fund this study, isn't that grounds for a city council ethics committee investigation?
Maybe he was involved with some of the funny business going on at CB7 tgat the FBI is looking into.
Never trust a proposal that comes through in the late summer - even if you have an aware and active Community Board, they don't meet, so questionable projects don't get the opportunity to be questioned.
God bless Tony Avella. That being said, why are State officials involved in a City project?
Politicians must make immigrants , legal and illegal, comfortable in their new country. While they're at it, it's critical to amass all those new votes to ensure the politician gets to keep his/ her job. A pandering we go.....it's the same old song.
As someone who grew in up in Flushing and resents the 3rd world refuge with their modifications to what was once a great neighborhood, I say this,.......YOU WIN !!!
I just dont care anymore.
Moving in the Fall.
There is a nice place in VT that has trees and a high quality of life with 1/3 the taxes and stress.
After the plan is executed and the elderly Koreans inhabit the space, good luck to the IHOP across the street. When it gets cold the old farts will set up camp there and sip a cup of tea for four hours.
I see nothing whatsoever about this proposal, at the web site of the Korean American Association of Queens: http://www.kaaq.org
No artist's renderings.
No copy of any application submitted to NYCDOT.
No explanation of the project.
No trace whatsoever of the proposed pedestrian plaza.
This is being kept under wraps, so as to not scuttle the necessary approvals. There's no other explanation for the total lack of disclosure at the KAAQ web site.
First - any organization which represents a specific cohort that puts in a request to change the name or use of a public space should be sensitive to the current name or use. Considering that Koreans are among the first ethnic group to cry racism if ANYBODY says anything against what an individual or group within their culture is doing, I find it curious that KAAQ and Stavisky, Vallone and Koo have no problem ignoring a century-old square dedicated to the memory of all of our veterans, first responders and 9/11 victims in order to create a "plaza" of which purpose is undetermined specifically for a single ethnic group. It's pretty sick.
Second - the elected officials involved in this, particularly Stavisky and Vallone, have shown - again - what a bunch of craven assholes they are. It's interesting that Avella, whose district is across the street - is attacked for being against it and told that it's none of his business but Vallone - whose district is across the street as well - is thanked for his support and invited to participate and comment.
These phonies are only doing this because Stavisky and Vallone are scared: last year, Stavisky ahd a serious challenge from S.J. Jung, a Korean-American who received almost 43% of the vote; in 2013, Vallone only received about 1/3 of the Korean vote in the 19th Council District, splitting it equally with Austin Shaffran and Paul Graziano.
Third - how can anyone measure opposition to a proposal when no one has been invited, made aware or otherwise reached out to? Any sane person can see that this is a terrible location for a permanent street closure for multiple reasons.
If the Korean community, which has been steadily forced out of downtown Flushing by a massive wave of Chinese-based development and real estate concerns during the past two decades, wishes to plant their flag in the sand and claim a "center of town" or "Koreatown" for themselves because they are worried about their future in Flushing, there are much better locations than this one. And, they could also do it with transparency instead of trying to muscle this through and pissing off the entire community, of which they are a relatively small part. That would go a long way in smoothing over relations between various ethnic groups and organizations.
Tony Avella got 54% of the vote against John Liu, you arrogant prick, not much less than your boss got against S. J. Jung.
Tony wouldn't have had to intervene if Stavisky actually did her job instead of pandering for votes.
Also, this does affect Avella's district: all of the traffic coming westbound on Northern Boulevard is on the north side of the street (Avella's district) so it's certainly reasonable for him to have an opinion about it, especially if his constituents reached out to him about it.
Does anybody know exactly who owns the whole property consisting of the Murray Hill Shopping Center?
Is it Korean owned? Just curious.
Hmmmmm.....let's see if John Choe gets involved in this with his "One Flushing" group.
When the meeting with Stavisky, Koo, etc. occurs, I hope the nabe reps are wearing chain mail so as to avoid getting stabbed in the back.
Toby Stavisky is far too old for her job. Please retire soon you old "sqidgellum".
That's a W.C. Field's description of "Cleopatra Pepperday" . He added that , "She looks like a well,kept grave".
The Korean businesses will completely disappear off of Union Street as soon as Flushng Commons is completed, if not sooner.
Business is at low ebb right now.
How many North Korean expatriot members does KAAQ have in its ranks?
What is their dear leader like?
This is Leonard Square, a war memorial.
You do not abuse, disrespect or commercialize a memorial.
If a plaza is needed then let Murray Hill Shopping Center give up some parking spots to accommodate the creation of one.
That would be another dumb idea anyway. This is a dangerous location.
If Paul Vallone funded this dumb ass study, I'd like to know how much he bilked us taxpayers to pay for it , just to cull a few votes for himself.
Eh...Don Chitrool. You have not done squat for your district. This is just another under the table back room deal to kee ,the community in the dark ....like the new high school proposal, that younsupport in Bayside. One more strike you're out , councilman Paulie.
The voters have their eyes on how badly you've screwed them!
Dump,Toby Stavisky. She looks like she's ready to be interred anyway.
Don't ever get downwind from her. GAG!
LOL! Another Korean War in the making?
Look out Stavisky, Vallone, Koo.
You have just opened up a very big can of worms by excluding the community and trying to sneak this one in.
Vallone has proven himself to be a cheesy repetitive liar. Stavisky is a low life accomplice. And Peter Koo is just Peter Koo....always looking out for his own interests. At least he is intelligent. Except on this move.
You expect transparency?
Transparency is not the way politicians work. Poiticians are behind this.
Their milieu is a smoke filled back room where they can conduct their opaque dealings far from public view.
I am not ready to move to Vermont....where, incidentally....the real, estate taxes are quite high. I have a cousin who lives there.
They pay dearly compared to New Hampshire. He moved from east Flushing about 40 years ago. He sort of regrets it.
His taxes are higher than the NYC rate. Of course he has more land. The winter heating bills are astronomical.
Conclusion....there is no paradise except in paradise.
LOL! Chinese are moving to New England in droves. Better to stay and pay lower NYC real estate taxes.
Besides, I enjoy the variety that NYC has to offer. Cabin fever in Vermont, New Hampshire or far Connecticut doesn't appeal to me.
23 minutes from the Broadway station to Penn. Look at the changes it offers.
How much money did the KAAQ promise Paul Vallone for supporting this?
Fat ass Stavisky has already got a war chest as huge as her rump.
Vallone needs the cash more than she does.
Call it Kim Jung Un triangle, watch them scurry like roaches.
Business must be bad at Jongro BBQ if they need a plaza to encourage street traffic.
They are acting like Kim Jung Un.
Toby Stavisky did not inform any of her civics or her constituents about this stupid plaza or announce any workshops.
Sounds to me like a big secret.
i wonder how much Jongro BBQ had to pay Vallone and Stavisky for this? Maybe free kimchi for life?
Toby Stavisky should have learned well by now to stop wiping her ass with the community.
This political hanger oner has not yet realized that her days in the limelight of politics have come to an end.
This loss of control has allowed this mean spirited troll to blossom into becoming an enraged harpie.
Say goodnight, Toby.
Toby Stavisky only wishes she could have ratings as high as Donald Trump...the old douche bag!
Her old hard core Jewish constituency is just about gone. Now she's forced to politically kiss Asian ass to try and remain in business.
Both Stavisky and Vallone tried to slip this one through during everybody's summer vacation season.
It will be interesting to see if some clever Albany fight promoter might want to sponsor a boxing match between Stavisky and Avella, come Autumn. Toby is a slow, fat old broad. One good belly punch from Tony and she's out for the count like a beached whale.
Yep...Moby Stavisky...thar she blows. Puhleeze....not anywhere near me!
I pity the chair that has to bear her seat. The room needs fumigating.
Bevis and Butthead. Remind you of anyone here?
Stavisky's late husband is the lucky one. He doesn't have to deal with Toby or Evan anymore.
RIP senator Stavisky.
If you are going to have a Koreatown Plaza then it has to be divided into North and South Koreatown.
Passports must be shown and travel visas issued. And you may not transport your cup of coffee across the border.
Vallone and Stavisky are prime examples that politics has dwindled from serving the community to pandering for votes even if it comes to betraying the communities they are supposed to be representing. Then again....job#1 of any politician....is to keep their jobs.
Both the long empowered Vallone and Stavisky dynasties need to be broken. Only YOU voters can accomplish that.
Be sure to vote Republican and dump these Nazicrats.
Hiding in the guise of Democracy, these self serving Democrats are behaving more like despots than the Republicans they scorn.
Vallone supports developers, not the people. Stavisky? She will support anyone who can keep her fat ass on her political throne.
Time to vacate your throne, sister, for a porcelain one. That is where your butt belongs! But, please, don't forget to close the bathroom door.
BFHA has to be very active in the prevention of creating this traffic nightmare.
All community residents must maintain a watchfull eye on this. Be sure to speak out at the CB7 meeting regarding this.
Let your politicians know that if they support this idiotic plaza, you will not support them at the polls.
They work for you, not vice versa...and they need to be reminded of that !
Avella was right on the money when he described this as "idiotic".
Therefore Stavisky must surely be an idiot or losing it to senility.
Vallone?
Who ever knows what's going on in his polished chrome dome.
He is just a dummy and probably can't even see how he's pissing all over his own shoes.
Please, next time the Vallone clan gathers at the Jersey shore....maybe pappa Vallone can teach his dumbest son Paulie how to be a smarter politician. I'll bet the whole family is embarrassed.
Paul is the Fredo Corleone of La Famiglia Di Vallone.
It will be interesting to see what excuses the pols will be giving BFHA prez Hanophy , at their meeting, why this plaza is such a good idea.
"Why can't we just all get along?"
There is no real conflict here. We all get along fine. This is a multi ethnic community that has coexisted peacefully with respect for each other for decades.
The creation of pedestrian plaza is just a bad "idiotic" dangerous idea being foisted upon the community.
You simply do not place a plaza in a most dangerous location.
Then there is the matter of showing disrespect to our vets by commercializing a memorial.
Ba da beep...that's all , folks! That's really all that there is to this matter.
Vallone spent money in Peter Koo's district that should have been spent in our district!! Doesn't anyone care?? What about all those idiots who had Vallone lawn signs, do you realize your councilman is spending your money in other people's districts? Downtown Flushing District.
If you are in with the leftists you are set
If you are not than you are $#@#ed
http://nypost.com/2015/08/13/gal-pal-of-top-de-blasio-aide-hired-for-cushy-150k-a-year-gig/
Wasn't it Vallone himself that was going around saying that he was the community's "great white hope"?
That sort of makes Don Vallone anti Asian doesn't it?
In other words the electorate was easily conned into a blackmail scheme, whereby if they didn't vote for Paulie some Asian might get in.
The man is a habitual liar who cannot be trusted by anyone.
He enjoys a record of having betrayed any side he claims to have had compassion for.
How this dumb mediocre thug got elected is the voters' shame to bear.
The idiots who posted Vallone lawn signs
are the same kind of dumb goombahs that Vallone is himself.
Too many unelectable candidates were running against Vallone via NYC matching funds.
That is how Don Vallone got elected.
Maybe some of you low end egotistical wannabee council members ought to get real and stop splitting the vote.
How many one and two time losers will be crowding the field in the next election?
NYC taxpayers have to foot the bill for all these small time losers.
I'll bet that Stavisky , Koo, etc. will offer a deal to BFHA.
That meak org won't make any waves if they get offered a good deal.
Besides, It's prez is an ADA, tied to county politics.
He will be forced to dance to two differnt tunes. One to keep, his job , and two to represent BFHA.
Well, it's hard to dance at two wedding receptions with only one ass.
WTF is going on here? I'll tell you.
Vallone is just treading water.
The Asian community, which is a minority in his district, knows that he's really anti Asian.
He has angered a large portion of the non Asian community in his district also.
What does he hope to gain....a small percentage of the Korean vote by supporting KAAQ's plaza?
Bingo!
Vallone knows he's already dead, politically speaking.
He has lost his core supporters by betraying them.
He is just paddling along until he gets his most desired judgeship.
He will not get a second term in the council.
BTW
I have it from inside sources that nobody in the council likes him.
He's cold and aloof and you can't talk to him.
Isn't that stupid, not warming up to your fellow lawmakers?
Vallone has no choice. He is dumber than dirt and lacks the social political skills to schmooze properly with council members.
He has opted to remain cool to hide his stupidity.
If he opens up ,Vallone might reveal his real lack of brains.
Politics requires creativity and dealing. Vallone can't do either.
I believe it's meant for the elderly to enjoy sitting outside together to chat like in many places in Korea. But unfortunately if it's not a white neighborhood, you will get pushback.
These public plazas have been created in much busier places, like Times Square and Jackson Heights. They have allowed people, not just the elderly, to reclaim the streets and enjoy time outside. They have been very popular and successful. It's worth doing even if it puts an extra 2 minutes on your drive. Maybe it will even calm the traffic on Northern Blvd, so that you don't feel like you're risking your life every time you cross. It also seems like there have been hearings and notice on this. Can't blame the City if you didn't go.
These public plazas have been created in much busier places, like Times Square and Jackson Heights. They have allowed people, not just the elderly, to reclaim the streets and enjoy time outside. They have been very popular and successful.
Yeah - the Jackson Heights Diversity Plaza has been *so successful* that they needed to put in a permanent police presence and patrol to curb homeless sleeping, public drunkenness and other drug use, and loud music blasting all of the time. See below:
http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20140624/jackson-heights/diversity-plaza-gets-dedicated-police-officers-address-complaints
We don't have any of these problems at Leonard Square. Why would we want to create them?
All of those public plazas did not get created by disrespecting , by commercializing, memorials to dead war veterans.
The elderly you speak up already use the Mc Goldrick library for a snooze parlor.
They hung around the old Mc Donald's nursing a 99cent cup of coffee far beyond the allotted time.
Pushback? My ass! Find another spot. Kissena Park, Bowne Park, Plaut Triangle.
OR....go and buy a cup of coffee at Paris Baguette within the shopping center.
Stop trying to jerk our chains. Both Stavisky and Vallone are only doing this for votes.
Do your research dummies. The votes gained will not matter. You are both at the twilight of your political careers.
How old is Toby Stavisky? Isn't she headed for her dirt nap?
Warning:
Any of you assholes who vote to re-elect Vallone deserve to get him.
If you like to be screwed for a second term...bend over and vote Vallone.
Be sure to grease up your sphincter for less discomfort.
Now some snot wad has tried to turn this into an anti elderly issue?
Good try but we see right through you Vallone and Stavisky trolls.
"Oh the poor, poor elderly". Gimme a break! Open a senior center.
Reclaim the streets? There is a bus stop there already spewing fumes.
Wait until a truck swerves Into the "plaza" and hits a few bistro tables full of relaxing people.
This is a very dumb idea. Vallone conned the Koreans.
He got them the study money knowing that it won't likely go through.
This project has not reached a bump in the road, it has hit a wall.
Wait until all the veterans groups and police union gets wind of the disrespect to slain vets and an NYPD officer.
There goes Vallones support from them.
If I were Paulie, I'd be scared shit! He really stepped on his own dick with this one.
If Jongro BBQ wants a plaza let them create one on their roof.
That's who it benefits.
The taking of a public war memorial is despicable.
Stavisky and Vallone are guilty of attempted land theft!
Shame on you crooked crocks of crap!
For Seniors . An all day senior center , Korean Community Services .
KCS - Flushing Senior Center
Senior Citizen Center · Flushing

Thank you for posting the address of the nearest senior center.
Now there is no excuse to abuse a war memorial to create a plaza where Korean elderly can park their asses in summer months.
The adjacent library already sees that use in winter.
Vallone-Stavisky!
NEVER forget who was behind all of this!
Especially during the next election cycle!
Make the treacherous Vallone pay the price!
How many times does Don Chooch
have to betray the people of his district before they finally wise up?
Get smart. Dump this fart!
Let's see if the St. Andrew's crowd trusts Vallone anymore after he tried to pull the wool over the eyes of community residents
with this latest of his shifty moves. Maybe the ol' soccer coach will get a cold reception from the church goers.
This is one sin that should never be forgiven. Thou shalt not bear witness against thy neighbors.
Vallone, Vallone, Vallone...leave us alone. Better yet, resign your post.
Would that there were the option of voters casting a vote of no confidence in our NYC charter.
What did that rump fed reunion, Moby Stavisky, promise Vallone for funding the study for Koreatown Plaza....a future Albany spot?
He already got passed over for a judgeship.
Eventually he will go back to sucking dick at the family developer lobbying law firm.
What other talents does he have? The dumbest of the Vallone brothers ain't good for much besides legal eagle technicalities.
Heaven forbid this crook ever winds up in surrogate's court!
Oooh, Mary, what a smooth polished dome!
Give me some head, Paulie. And I don't mean your "brain".
Skull is your forte.
This whole thing was Vallone's idea.
Rather this idea is the county's Democratic organization's idea...more likely.
Paulie never had an idea of his own.
They must have told him to put in a request of DOT for the plaza.
Some Dem candidate elswhere needed the KAAQ's money and support.
And what did county promise Paulie in return?
Surely Vallone did not do this just to get the meager 7% Korean vote in his district
where Korean voters are in the minority.
Think about that folks....somebody put Vallone up to instigating this.
Koo, Stavisky and even Meng will go along for the ride.
The fact remains that Valllone stuck his nose outside of his own district.
So, who is he representing here?
Let's see if Councilmember Vallone has the stones to attend the next Broadway Flushing Homeowners' Association meeting after what he just tried to pull. I am sure that he will make some excuses about having to coach a soccer game that night.
But...will he send his COS as a flack hack to do his dirty work for him? Sneaky lying cowards usually do select that sort of option.
And who will keep the vagrants and slobs from this plaza?
Practically every plaza that has been created in NYC has faced those problems.
Some have even brought an increase in crime and drug use.
This is an improper unsafe location for a pedestrian plaza. Relocate it elswhere.
I'm sure that the Korean press has been having a field day accusing the "round eyes" of anti Korean bigotry.
Stow it you phonies. This is a bad location...PERIOD! Everytime a group doesn't get its adolescent ideas made into reality,
they are sure to pull the race card rather than admit they are wrong.
Maybe Vallone is getting some laundered North Korean money out of this?
LOL!
Put a Japanese plaza next to it and watch the Koreans run for cover.
What about a public comfort station? Gotta pee somewhere.
Right now the late evening bums are peeing behind the flagpole.
Send Moby Stavisky to north Korea.
They'd have enough barbecue to eat for two years.
Yeccch! Did you ever try to clean a Stavisky?
Both Stavisky and Vallone won by a hair. They are soon to be history.
What was going around in the Stavisky camp In, the mid 80s , was that "they" could not control the spead of Asian development but that "they"were going to try and keep it confined to the downtown area.
In other words as long as long as it did not hit the Whitestone, etc. and areas of the northeast.
Then there was Vallone blackmailing voters by saying that he was the great white hope (otherwise you'd get a Korean council member and there goes the district).
Do we not have a pair of bigots here pretending to be tolerant of all ?
We Asians have got your numbers, senator and councilman.
We are just using you, and you are both too self absorbed and desparate to realize that. Enjoy your last terms. We have great patience.
Now Vallone can go back to his hardcore goombahs in Whitestone and say
that he kept the Koreans out of their nice nabe by keeping their plaza in Flushing .
You should have all elected that other Paul...Paul Graziano...instead of the treacherous Paul Vallone
Then everyone in the community would have gotten a fair hearing and a fair shake.
Graziano was for the district, not for himself like Vallone is!
Vallone only cares about Vallone. His constituents play second fiddle to his lust for power.
What's the bottom line here, people!
The bottom line is....whoever has the money will buy the neighborhood.
They will begin by buying the politicians.
And everybody knows they can be bought at discount rate.
You "White" racists have had your day.
Whether this plaza comes to fruition or not, there is a growing Asian presence here and it is blossoming.
By attrition you will loose your too long established control.
America is a land of immigrants. We are coming, as you once did, and cannot be stopped from pursuing OUR
American Dream!
Your councilman Vallone cannot stop the future of Koreans in the northeast, so he has joined us.
Thank you councilman for proposing this plaza. We will, likewise, support you.
Your misinformed critics might insist on calling you a "turncoat", but we call you a man who, stands for equality for all.
Let's take that further. CB7 has always sought to confine Asian overdevelopment far away from Whitestone and the northeast.
How many Asians do you see on the community board? How many Asians do you see as board members of the northeast civic associations?
Vallone sacrificed your nabe for the good of his goombah interests and financial supporters in Whitestone.
Vallone feels that he lives far enough away in northeast Flushing-Auburndale so this plaza will not to affect him.
If his block should start going "bad" he will simply move further east..
Remember after his dad completely ruined Astoria the sons moved out of the shit zone.
We've noticed that BFHA's board is mostly old, Lilly white, Irish or Italian.
No Asians there. Why is that? Does anybody feel that the "yellow peril" (an old racist reference) is not to be trusted
even as a homeowner?
And you should hear the Douglaston gentry complain about "those damn Koreans taking over everything".
The sons and daughters of the old white privileged are having to put down their mid day cocktails and face change.
They do not like it.
When Patrick's Pub in Little Neck closed you should have heard the Little Neckers. "Now it's a Korean strip mall".
The northeast is having to face the 21st century and it's changing faces.
It has become very clear from these comments that there is racism on both sides
Orientals don't like the "round eyes" and the other side...Occidentals....dislike the "slopes".
So, what's to be done?
The final solution to this thorny issue will lie in the amount of money and power that exists in any group like the KAAQ.
Which group contributes the most to the offending politicians here?
How much money does Stavisky, Vallone, Koo get from the Korean voters?
What is the percentage of the Korean vote? Can they alone deliver a re-election victory ?
It is clear that both Vallone and Stavisky are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Vallone, in particular, has alienated his core voting block in the northeast for the idiocy he has foisted upon them.
I would say that Paulie just took a dump on his own shoes. Wouldn't you?
Next time you're in church, councilman, you'd better offer a prayer to St. Jude that you will overcome impossible odds at you securing a second term in the council.
