From the Times Ledger:
Despite rumors that the Macedonia AME Church in Flushing was due to be torn down, the office of Queens Borough President Melinda Katz confirmed that there are no such plans.
In an email dated July 7 to Jackson Heights resident Stephen Barney, 62, who wrote an op-ed for the TimesLedger March 16 against the alleged plan, Susie Tanenbaum, director of immigrant and intercultural affairs for Katz’s office, said that the church does need to undergo renovations but that there are no plans to tear it down.
“Indeed, given the building’s longevity, there are renovations that need to be attended to in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the congregation,” Tanenbaum wrote. “But Macedonia AME as an institution remains very much intact.”

That's funny. Between the tenure of Reverend Tyson and Reverend Tweed, there were architect's renderings posted in the lobby of Macedonia, showing a new church to be built at a later date. Have these plans been scrapped or held and modified for future use?
Nobody intends to besmirch Macedonia AME's honor or impugne their reputation but what is really up?
How should Queens borough hall be the expert in what is going on? They either are aware of the real deal or are as ignorant, as usual, in what really goes on in the borough. Ignorant except when it comes to development projects.
Come guys, wake up. They are sitting on a goldmine, they got lucky with what's occurring. Think mega million type lucky.
They can tear it down and have 100+ affordable rentals sitting atop a new and unused/empty place of worship.
They can negotiate a sale after their property doubles in value after the "state of the art village" is completed around it. The negotiation would include a sweet 99 year lease for the new church and the developer reaps the rewards of rentals on top.
We don't need a crystal ball to see what will happen in 5 years.
Why do they let them tear down historic churches, like Epworth in Whitestone or Temple Gates in Flushing? That's what we need, not some chitzy movie theater.
It will be in the shadow of TDC's mega buildings.
Where is the light of G-d going to shine anymore?
