Ridgewood's rat problem gets worse

From the Queens Courier:

Residents of Himrod Street on the Ridgewood/Bushwick border in Brooklyn have noticed an increase in the number of rats they have seen on their block and are looking for a solution.

Pauline Bruscarino, a resident of Himrod Street for 39 years, says she has seen rats roaming the neighborhood almost every night.

After going through 911 and 311, Bruscarino said that she was told that she had to wait before someone could get down to the area to inspect the problem.

On Friday morning, Bruscarino said that a city inspector was seen on the block, investigating the problem.

After going through the area, the inspector told Bruscarino that the landlords of the residents complaining about seeing rats are responsible for getting rid of the rats. If nothing is done by the landlords, then the city takes its own action to wipe out the vermin, then sends the landlords the bill.

More construction + more pigs in the area = more rats.

Unfortunately, I do not believe that the landlords (owners) will do anything. Maybe the inspectors should just notify the city to "take its own action" immediately, then just send the landlords (owners) the bill.

Of course, I may be naïve to think that the landlords (owners) would ever pay the bill, but at least the problem (rats) would be solved quicker. MAYBE! - depends on how quick the city moves, and I have no confidence in that.

This would never fly, of course, since the city would soon be overwhelmed with UNPAID bills....

SIGH!

Over on Metropolitan the rat problem has increased over the past year. The landlords do not address the issue and currently could care less especially if they feel they can get more money for their apartment.

Wait a couple of weeks and you'll see the rat problem migrate to Maspeth and Middle Village due to the city's food scrap recycling program.

Maspeth and Middle Village have had the food scrap recycling program for more than a year already. No increase in rats reported, and before the program, people would put plastic bags out on the street that the rats and other animals would just chew through. People scream that the sky is falling any time there is a change in routine, but most of the time their concerns are unfounded.

"Maspeth and Middle Village have had the food scrap recycling program for more than a year already."

You might want to let the Department Of Sanitation in on this since their program started on May 18th of this year.

Queens – Starts week of May 18
Includes parts of Maspeth and Middle Village

The Maspeth and Middle Village recycling program started last year - April 2014. It was expanded to more homes this year. It's amazing how people have no idea what goes on in their own neighborhoods.

No one is putting food scraps out to recycle, just yard waste. How about making cans with tight fitting lids mandatory. Plastic bags just slow down rats, cats, raccoons, etc. but they still get at the garbage.

Start using city incinerators again. There have been improvements that would prevent pollution caused by them in the '60's

We need to get rid of the hipsters, they keeping moving up towards these sacred lands that I once knew as a child. They are dirty and worse than Mexicans.
