NYPD raids FMCP

From DNA Info:

Late-night revelers partying at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park after dark were slapped with summonses during an early-morning raid over the weekend, police said.

Officers from the 110th Precinct entered the park at 1 a.m. and handed out 39 summonses on Sunday, May 31 after multiple complaints about loud music and partying, according to Deputy Inspector Christopher Manson.

The identities of those given summonses and the exact violations were not immediately available, but the typical type of summonses given out are for violating city rules against being in the park after dark, police said.

It's the latest enforcement at the borough's largest park after complaints from neighbors in surrounding communities about speeding drivers and partiers who take advantage of the park's thoroughfares, which are open 24 hours a day despite rules against entering the park after dark to allow access to nearby highways.

Manson has said at public meetings he'd like the road that connects the Van Wyck Expressway and Grand Central Parkway through the park to be closed at night to prevent access once it closes.

It's about time. Keep it up.

the real crime is that these kids are trying to drift on underinflated tires.

Good news let's hope the 110 Pct keeps it up !

Anonymous said...

I haven't seen any signs anywhere in the park about not entering the park after dark.

Parks should be respected enough not to blast music with systems. If you are going to "hang out " do it so you don't disturb the entire neighborhood. These idiots pushed their luck.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Thank God ! The 109 Pct met with the 110th Pct to take care of this problem because many of the people living in the 109th Pct have their quality of life disturbed every weekend by this loud music. I myself can hear it in my house with the doors and windows shut & the TV on, it's horrible, it's been going on for years.

So where will the local ethnics go to party next?
"Hey mon, you ees taking away my crevela an my muzikical expressions"!

I bet you money that they are mostly Hispanics. They love music and outdoors. Not being racist but just stereotypical, and stereotypes have some truth in it..you all have to admit that terminology.

Bout fricken time! I've only been complaining for five years now. Literally. 5 years!

Carpet bombing would have been preferable.

Being in the parks after dark is against the rules? What kind of BS is that?

Give these guys tickets for noise violations, which should be against the rules if it's loud enough to be heard outside the park.

Crusseau said...

Per NYC Parks Dept rules, unless otherwise posted, NY.c parks close at 10pm. Most parks have rules stating earlier hours. None have rules stating later.

New York City where you can no longer have fun !!
They now give you a ticket and check you for warrants for having an after work beer in Penn Station LIRR plaza. This wile waiting for the train minding your own dam business, bothering nobody ! I been having my pretzel and 16 oz bud after work for 25 years !!!
I yearn for the good old Ed Koch days !!!

BTW-Cops likely cant give tickets for noise violations because they are too stupid to use read decibel meters properly. I assume most noise tickets get tossed out no money is to be made.
Drinking beer, cigaretts and DUI fines are a slam dunk bonanza !!

To the latino reference, sip on sour lemonade.
Those at the park at night are likely asian and a mix of others. Drifting is an asian thing (japan) and the cars are called ricers. This group is likely from communities east of flushing meadows.
Those car lovers should organize in getting a permit for a car show and shine once a month like a car club. The city could use permit monies. Great way for these car fanatics to show off their ride.
On another note, these crowds did use the marina by northern for these activities, but that got shut down. Just realize , people this crowd could be out cruising and letting lose on the streets, but decide to do it in a closed enviorment. Im suprised the highway noise doesen drown the sound.

Actually 1 am....

These animals don't limit themselves to weekends. I hear them quite often during the week, well after midnight. I mostly hear horrible music, such as is played by Hispanics and ghetto blacks, and loud firecrackers. And this is almost all the way to Kissena Blvd. so you KNOW it's gotta be nearly unbearable near to the park. Why haven't the police dealt with this long ago?

Chris, Like you I have been waiting years for action against the unwanted noise coming from FMP and where ever else the these idiots gather. Maybe now after the planes stop flying over my home in North Flushing around midnight I can leave a window or two open this summer. Also want to thank Crappie for posting this story and many others that affect our diminishing quality of life here in Queens.
Queens Crap makes a difference.

To Anonymous above the Russo comment:

Yeah we all know Asians just LOVE to blare latino music from their cars.

Yall forgot what american young adult culture is. You forget happydays, american graffitti, saturday night cruising, they need to gather somewhere, they could end up on a dead end street or wherever.
Remember folks, the lie has huge walls put up the remedy highway noise, maybe you can request the same from the city. You did choose a home near the highway, in a flight path, with a park view, did you really think it will be quiet?

Anonymous said...

No - these "kids" are WAY out of line - the sound is deafening for miles - sorry, don't compare them to previous generations.

Crusseau said...

Kapimap - yes, I did choose a home near a highway. Which by the way, has a normal amt of traffic noise which is almost inaudible where I live.
Yes, I live under an airport flight path, but again, it's easy to get used to and I barely notice it anymore.
And yes, I live across a highway and over a half mile from a park. A park that has a CLOSING TIME OF 10 PM. A park where booming music and screeching tires occurs at 1, 2, 3, 4 am in the morning and literally shakes my walls and is audible OVER my TV or air conditioner.
See the difference here? These things do not equate.
As far as crusing, happy days, etc.... Yup. I remember those days. I owned a motorcycle with a racing exhaust. I've owned camaros. You know what the difference is?
My friends and I wouldn't hang out in closed parks racing our engines or blasting our music. I used to cut my engine and coast into my garage so my bike wouldn't bother my neighbors. We cruised Main Street which wasn't residential. So yeah, I remember those days well. They were fun. We were courteous. Too bad these guys don't remember those days.

One I don't live near the highway. I live miles away and still hear the booming music in North Flushing.
Second what they are doing is illegal and dangerous.
Third the flight patterns where change using fast track negotiating in congress without environmental studies to protect my health and the well being. Thousands of people health has been adversely affected by noise and air pollution.
Quality of life should be protected and cherished not destroyed and diminished !

In the late 60s we hung out at the Unisphere. Kids came from all over - on any given night in the summer - there were a few hundred of us. The music of Led Zeppelin and Hendrix, etc. was connected somehow to the lightpoles, and we partied to all hours of the night or until our different curfew times or until the cops came and chased us away. The music was NEVER deafening nor were we vandals.

Just to share with you my experience with this - my husband and I occasionally play pitch and putt at FMP. One time we had just parked in the lot near the stadium when another car pulled up and parked near us. There were 4 people in the car - they opened all the doors wide including the trunk door and started blaring latino music to the point that my husband and I could no longer hear ourselves speak. I had never seem such a display of disrespect before. We hurried away to the golf area and it was still TOO LOUD. There is a DELIBERATE arrogance about this behavior - and it says FU to everyone else within earshot.

I so feel for those that live close by like poster Chris Russo - what a nightmare for you and your neighbors. I am very glad that the police are on top of this now.

"Bustling, vibrant".
Isn't that the lie being foisted upon us who seek a little peace and tranquility after a hard day's work?
This kind of low class cultural arrogance does not represent true diversity.
Did you ever hear a higher clas neighborhood promote itself as diverse, bustling, vibrant?
Those euphemisms are reserved for ghetto nabes.

Anonymous said...

Not to worry. Soon quieter Asians will be replacing those loud Latinos.
That's who is buying up property all over Corona.
Hey, before the Latinos you had loud Italians. The nabe was never the best of Queens.

Anonymous said...

Loud Italians . . . ?
Glad to hear Asians are buying in.

You know, i live by the main post office. The trucks start loading a 430 500 am every morning and sundays now. I cant do a damn thing about the noise, and that loud banging of metal will wake you

For some of the posters here, i cant really tell what bothers them more, loud music or loud latin music. Would it be ok if they were blaring billy joel or barry manilow?
how about full range classical on accurate reference speakers? That music has very low bass.

Anonymous said...

They aren't blasting Billy Joel and it doesn't matter anyway since what they are doing is illegal.

Anonymous said...

to Anonymous who lives by the main post office -

I know that you want so much to make this a racist issue - that would then validate all YOUR racist beliefs and feed into your negative psyche.

The FACT is that the music is TOO friggin' loud and that it is playing all night long.

Also - I wake up at 5:00 every morning - even on weekends. It's a wonderful time to wake up. You CHOOSE to live by the main post office - you HAD to know that there would be some activity going on in the wee hours of the morn.

Living by or near a PARK on the other hand - one would think would be very peaceful.
