Jamaica Estates house: cool or crap?

From Curbed:

At first glance, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Jamaica Estates is all harsh angles and clashing colors and dissonant window sizes. But open the door. Take a good, hard look at its incredibly shiny interiors, which tell another story. A more aggressive story. Probably a story from a decade that has passed. Fancy a grand piano and a sunken dance floor? A pool table and fully stocked bar in a basement den of debauchery? A black- and red-tiled hot tub, sauna, and steam room set-up? Mirrored walls galore? All of the above can be yours—for a mere $1.69 million.

It still looks like crap. That tacky red is gross.

Nice pad in front. Is that for parking your escalade or your benzy? Either way, 110% class there.

Remember "The Jerk" when he got that check for 250 big ones and the following scene that show his new digs. Especially the pool room, it's uncanny.

But I think this one is more comparable from the same movie

I would not say it looks like crap, but it seems to be out of place with the other homes, but there is little uniformity in Queens to begin with. At least it is not one of those third world shit holes put up everywhere.

There is too much paving in the front and the colors of the home are too bright for such a leafy neighborhood. Furthermore, the interior seems frozen in the 1980s. The sauna and steam room is classy, no need to go to Spa Castle.

Well, it's no illegal to have bad taste, is it?

red most likely means the owner is from kazakhstan or some place close by

Add a little purple to the color scheme and I'd expect a pimp in chartreuse to walk in with one of his ladies.
From the outside it looks very dated and commercial.

Less crappy than others...On the 1-10 Crap scale, it's pretty low. Let's face it, there are some real 9 and 10 crappers out there

The place is crappy and with bad taste but when the sale goes through this clone from Kazakhstan (or what have you) will be paid in uncrappy dollars. A million plus of them so crap-not crap is irrelevant to him.

I'd prefer something that kept the character of the neighborhood. But considering all the other crap out there, from the outside this one isn't so bad. I think it's better than the pink brick mcmansions with the 2 columns in front that are popular in queens right now.

Looks great but I would have gone with Zebra print, ebony stain floor and purple pool table with a Sputnik lamp above the bar.

It looks like it has two driveways. Notice the flat cobblestone style walkup to the house,it's got a little ramp. It looks like they plan to park more cars on the sidewalk.

I wonder if it has a tub that looks like a clam. That pool room could use some velvet paintings of tigers.

Distinctive colors, distinctive shape, interesting to the eye. Not bad.
