From the Daily News:
A 22-year-old construction worker was killed Monday while shoring up a building wall in the Meatpacking District, cops said.
The man, who has not been identified, was working on the building at 19 Ninth Ave. when the accident occurred. He was taken around 12:45 p.m. to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he later died, officials said.
There are five open building code violations in the two-story complex dating from 2011. An investigation into the worker’s death is ongoing.

Want to bet the worker was an untrained illegal?
How many people have to die before shady builders are severely penalized for code violations? The DOB needs a good cleaning up too. Slow response and bribery are too common among its inspectors.
For dangerous work-sites, the best workers are non-English-speaking illegals. They are quiet about violations, and if they die, there's no lawyers and hardly anyone notices.

Soooo.... where is the mayor and out dear boro prez. Why are they not speaking out about this abuse. They are so concerned about their dear immigrant why are they suddenly mute?
I know why - it would hurt campaign donations from developers.
They are hypocrites.
Maybe the immigrant advocates should ask them.
It seems to me that more people are more concerned about the victim being here legally or illegally than the circumstances under which he was killed. What's more important?
I suppose it has gone over your head that the worker being illegal would make his death more likely. Take a look at construction accidents over the past few years and notice this common theme.
Tommy Huang, the notorious criminal developer and destroyer of Keith's Flushing theater, was responsible for the death of an immigrant worker. I believe he was an "illegal". I think that there are lawsuits in progress. That have not been settled yet. That scum bag Huang will likely walk away with a slap on the wrist. Huang gave plenty of money as campaign contributions to politicians and judges. Do you think justice gets served to immigrants with no legal status? Not very likely.
"It seems to me that more people are more concerned about the victim being here legally or illegally than the circumstances under which he was killed. What's more important?". I guess you don't have a problem with worker exploitation.
Hey "concerned", the point is that English-speaking workers who don't have a fear of being deported and have a fear of being crushed by an unshored wall, or falling through an improperly installed temporary floor, or being crushed by bricks loaded up on a roof in excess of the capacity of roof - they are more likely to speak up and/or walk off the site and/or sue for injuries. Each of those items I have listed were actual deaths.
