From the Daily News:
New Yorkers’ beloved foam take-out and delivery food containers will soon be products of a bygone era.
Mayor de Blasio — finishing off an initiative begun by his predecessor — will announce a ban on the environmentally unfriendly material Thursday, according to The New York Times.
The ban will start July 1 and cover foam packing peanuts as well as plastic foam cups and take-out containers.
Who is the Daily News to say that foam takeout containers are "beloved" by NYers? I hate them. They make your food taste like chemicals and they fall apart easily. And then there's the other side of the story.

Why is he banning peanuts? Because people are allergic to them I guess.
So we go back to cardboard like the Chinese takeout containers from years ago. No big deal.
That's all they use in Flooshing Chinatown.
I wonder how many stores in the land of anything goes "turn a blind eye in the name of Asian diversity" are actually going to follow this rule.
Good luck with that!
Just like when congress tried to ban Howard Hughes' TWA airline, its all politics that benefit someone else financially.
When something is ABSOLUTELY BANNED there is always something/someone that AB$OLUTELY BENEFIT$.
In Howard Hughes case it was Juan Trippe's Pan-Am airlines which would have held a commercial airlines monopoly had hughes been stifled.
This is great! It's predicted that at the end of time all that will be left will be cockroaches and styrofoam.
Biodegradable substitiutes are available - every option has a downside but styrofoam is by far one of the worst options.
This is good news!
Anon No. 4:
You're drinking too much coffee in the morning.
What the fuck took so long. As usual, after so much damage has been done by this shit, then they decide to do something.
Never anything pro-active from our government.
So thats ONE thing that this dickbag has done right.
does this also apply to schools, where every kids tray, every day, is foam?
How about products sold in the supermarket that isnt assembled in NYC, like Perdue Chicken?
Anon # 4 has a point - for every action there is an equal re-action - for every ban - there is a gain.
Yes, banning a type of product is just like favoring one provider of a service over another provider of the exact same service.
Your point would appear more valid if your analogy wasn't so out there.
@anon11
A simple and clear cut analogy about someones loss being someone elses benefit qualified as "out there" in your brain?
No wonder China is beating us
even though this is ban is right,it's a 20 years late and a lot of businesses have to make adjustments.
of course the chinese restaraunts and diners and the common people who order takeout have to pay for years of flagrant violations and illegal dumping by corporate manufacturing and energy over the century.
How will our feral youth enjoy their 23am chicken & french frie meals?
In what fancy-pants neighborhood was this photo taken? Here in Elmhurst Styrofoam takeout containers never see the inside of a trash can. We prefer to leave them all over the sidewalks and streets, and it's a real joy to see them clog the gutters when it rains.
