From Epoch Times:
A church in Queens was badly damaged by a fire hours before Sunday mass, forcing the parish to cancel services.
The Fire Department was called to the two-alarm blaze around 5:45 a.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. The church is on 37th Avenue in Corona, Queens.
It took 106 firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control. No injuries have been reported.
Mass was canceled Sunday and won’t resume until further notice. Church service for the entire week has been canceled. One of the workers said that it would take at least thirty days before the damage would be repaired.
The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

What I really miss about Catholic churches is the prayer candle offering venues scattered all about the interiors. In the old days, you actually got to light the votive candles with real flamed wicks. The Church did away with these and substituted electric lights as ersatz candles. Not the same effect IMHO. Like doing away with the Latin Mass. But, I guess the real prayer candles were fire hazards and maybe caused insurance problems?
Yes and insurance and NYFD requirements had the candles removed. St Pat's on 5th ave in Manhattan is the only church that still has them.
What gives? How come they get to slide?
Hey, if I was going to pray for someone/thing and I slipped a buck or five into the little slot, I get to press a button and just an electric light goes on? Hey, I'd want a real candle with a real flame with real smoke shooting up.
from what I heard it started in the church organ --
