From our esteemed governor:
By almost any measure, New Yorks real property taxes are the highest in the nation with an average residential bill of $5,040. In addition, three of the top four highest county median tax bills in the country are in New York. And New York is one of only 10 states where a resident can live in three general purpose local governments at the same time. There is no reason for New York to have nearly 10,500 separate forms of local governments; many of which provide overlapping or duplicative services.
Governor Cuomos proposal will freeze property taxes for two years, subject to two important conditions. In year one, the State will only provide tax rebates to homeowners who live in a jurisdiction that stays within the 2% property tax cap. In year two, the State will only provide tax rebates to homeowners who live in a locality that stays within the cap and also agrees to implement a shared services or administrative consolidation plan. The freeze will not apply to New York City, which does not have a property tax cap. Once fully implemented, this tax relief proposal will provide nearly $1 billion in relief with an average benefit of approximately $350 for nearly 2.8 million homeowners.

El Presidente of the State and
Subjecting DiBlasio to Court Jester.
Is he putting mayor dB on the spot
New York City real-estate tax always goes up. It's disconnected from the change in the value of the property and likewise disconnected from the financial needs of the city.
That's the formula that's been the law for over a decade.
Of course not. NYC residents will getting their usual property tax increase soon.
We pay for the rest of the state. same old story.
I thought Andy was a Queens boy. Wouldn't it be nice if he could give the middle-class (which is disappearing because of high taxes) and the surrounding boroughs a little tax break on their real estate taxes that increase every year? Guess he forgot where he came from. Since when is it legal to pick and choose who gets a tax break. We all live in New York State and he is the Governor of New York state. Isn't this discrimination. It's definitely not fair.
Cuomo rewards those who voted against him and punishes those who voted for him.
Cuomo ,by not permitting FRACKING in NYS is depriving the NYS property owners of mass savings for heating oil /gas at the pump, etc.
when the Saudis force the FRACK industry to slow down /stop production, the oil price will rise to $150 /barrel, resulting in high cost to U.S.consumers. U.S.politicians will not suffer the loss of $.40-.50/gal of gas tax. they now are planning an increase of gas tax. we vote for "QUIZLINGS" traitors....
NYC residents pay a lot, a lot less in property tax than Long Island residents.
The idiot senator from Connecticut is proposing a raise in the federal gas tax from $.18 to $.30, a 67% increase. And he wants to index it to inflation.
The dopey dems never pass up a chance to screw the public and the northeast populace like lemmings vote them into office again and again and again and again, and.....
