These photos were taken in the vicinity of the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
I know the Olmstead Center is undergoing construction, but most of this stuff looks perfectly usable and I gotta wonder a) why it's being junked and b) why it's being strewn around the grounds instead of being disposed of properly.

They don't care because the people working at the Olmsted Center work for the city and the city has "unlimited resources" to waste and also because they are unionized which means they can do anything they want without getting fired.
Would this happen around a Parks building in Central Park?
The third worlders are filthy!!

Who says third worlders did this?
Anon 1, who is the "they" that you refer to? If useful stuff is being disposed of, I assure you that the union folks are not the ones making the decision to dispose of the stuff. The order is likely coming from the Commissioner and/or City Hall. I worked for an agency when it went from offices to bullpen setup at the request of the Bloomberg administration. The workers didn't have a choice about the new setup or furniture, much less the handling of old furniture. The agency was supposed to notify the union before they made any changes to working conditions and they didn't. When people complained about it, the agency said "well, we already spent the money, and we can't do anything about it now." So everything had to stay as it was. I know it's hard to believe, but sometimes City workers get screwed too.
Great place to shop.
I found a 8 channel audio snake and some microphones and a Bogen power mixer in the dumpster.
Also and old calculator that uses Nixie tubes
All needed MINOR work to get working.
Weird !!
this is quite repulsive
some of those office chairs would look nice in a refrigerator box.

Again I ask: who says that third worlders did that? Were you there to witness it?

You should get some pictures of the truck repair areas. Thers oil being dumped by the drain, workers work in cracked buildings and tires and garbage everywhere. Scandal!
