From Edge of the City:
The German restaurant Chalet Alpina on Metropolitan has closed after serving up many a schnitzel over the years.... (Did they actually? I never ate there myself but assuming...) Are there any fans out there that are sad to see it go?

The food was good ,but not great. Always had a decent crowd.
The food was not terribly exciting (it is German, after all!) and the brightly-lit, knotty-pine interior was not very gemütlich!
Still it's sad to see a family-owned restaurant close!
Can't wait for the Taco Bell to move in.
One of the last 3 German restaurants left in the area (even if the owners were not German). Sad to see it go as it was not one of these "big plate little food" joints that seem to be everywhere now. This place had the best potato pancakes, guess I'll have to go to Greenpoint for that now.
That sucks!!! It was a cute and cozy place. Whaaaaa!
I stunned, shocked and saddened by this very unexpected news. We were there only two week ago and there was no inkling that this was going to happen.
I suspect that there's more to the story than Lenny and Zeljko wanting to retire. Why would they close abruptly without warning now - at their busiest time of the year?
I guess Manor Ocktoberfest put them out of business with its authentic German dining experience - NOT. Sad to see it go along with Gebhardts and almost all of the other decent places.
Food was just OK, the service REALLY sucked
Good weenier schnitzel with this red stuff and German pancakes. An old boss of mine Mr.Kaiser (RIP) would treat use every Christmas. At the time Neiderstiens was impossible to get a table.
Still far better the Irish food--YUCK !!!
I still have this cool mini black suitcase alarm clock/transistor radio Mr.Kaiser gave me to be on time for work.
Great German beer on tap, good food and loved catching up with Lenny. Will be missed
Stopped eating there years ago after the big roach problem I saw.
