While riding my bike early Friday morning near Oakland Lake in Bayside I found a dead Red Fox.

I believe Oakland Lake is considered an extension of Alley Pond Park, so hopefully this is not the same animal photographed by Queens Coyote a little while ago.

I wonder if the fox came around to eat the chickens people in the neighborhood have been raising lately.

Must have been hit by a passing car .
Near Oakland Lake there is abundant wildlife and plenty of feeding options to support a fox.

I once saw a timorous white rabbit on the walking path. Gentlest critter you could imagine. Someone's pet let go or escaped?
Most likely dumped. I found a black one like that in a cemetery once.
I work at Queensborough - there have been quite a few sightings of red foxes in the wooded areas.
They are known to live 10 min East in Nassau County and with the green areas along the Sound it's easy to conceive one finding it way to Oakland Lake
I just saw another one a little smaller dead on the side of the cross island pkwy south bound next to the barrier in the left lane, right at the northern blvd exit, couldn't get a picture but was curious to see if anyone had reported one missing , one escaped from zoo a few years back and they seem to be popping up all over the place nearby
