There's a blog called Queens Coyote that tracks sightings of unusual wildlife in the borough. It caught a red fox on its camera recently. The author will not reveal where in Queens it was spotted, other than "not in Alley Pond Park".
These are also all over Manhasset, Plandome and Port Washington. Tiny little critters, I don't have a clue how they migrated across the water. (have they been crossing or swimming)
" I don't have a clue how they migrated across the water."
They haven't crossed the water. They've been on Long Island forever. They basically have no predators and are moving from east to west as their populations grow.
old news--there have been foxes in several park in queens for over a dozen years.... first alley pond, but there is green space along that parkways from Alley pond to Cunningham park, and then onto Kissena, and then onto flushing meadow.
I recently spotted a midget driving some kind of toaster and a fox trotting up old IU Willets ave on the same bike ride.
I seen Coyote's come out from behind bushes with this 'stair" of sizing small people up around Muttontown- Oyster Bay. --those are bad news. Kill them all what I seen those things do out in Hollywood hills years ago ! A pack of 5 or so Coyotes scaled a 6 foot fence and bust through a packed yard of people having a BBQ. They team grabbed & dragged a squealing 60 pound pet pig over a 6 foot fence in seconds. I have no doubt they will take a small child or woman if hungry enough.
"poor baby" Yeah, screaming, squealing and blood shooting everyplace and a dozen or so small kids traumatized for life. Coyotes are the worst kind of smart, sneaky, nasty agile fast predators you can have aside wolves. Its best to irradiate them all on this island before they become a problem. They grab and kill 1000s of red foxes, cats, small dogs, chickens, young deer and assorted livestock a year on the North Fork.
These "save the Coyote" - "save the wild boar" people have no clue what they are talking about till surrounded by some and hear the jaws & teeth clicking (that them sharpening the front incisors) We also seen these things running down the tracks wile checking out the hells gate bridge late one night in the mid 1990s. They stopped and were checking us out, we had make loud noise, put our arms up in the air to look bigger, toss some trash on the ground to scare them.
Walked right up the tower's inside series of zig zag steps from Astoria park the door didn't have a a lock, wide open. Inside the tower "upstairs" its like a castle with Gothic hallways and huge rooms(way up above the tracks) including a big deck with little private "nooks" that in my guess were used by rich railroad & steel tycoons back in the day. Hmm, up above the city private orgys and ceremony's perhaps ?? (perhaps some historian can get out some old books)
Anyway we didn't walk exactly "on the tracks, the wind concussion of a 70 MPH Amtrack Metroliner locomotive at the time could no doubt blast a man off the bridge if close enough. They no doubt could take a 6 pack right of the ground so ?? It was real creepy, freaky and dreamy experience I would never take part in again. The mushrooms tea being passed around the "midnight pool party" (if you know what I mean) didn't help !! Never again, just to dam freaky
I saw on the news today some urban explorer was recently pinched for doing photography on another bridge, a lot of hard criminal charges. The authority's really hang and throw the book at you post 911 days.

That's nothing, I saw a coyote in my backyard a few days ago. First one in 12 years. No, not Queens, Delaware.

Joe, what were you doing on the tracks of the Hell Gate Bridge at night? How'd you get up there?

Spotted a red fox at Francis Lewis Blvd. by Garden World. I have seen them before over by Kissena park/Kissena golf course, but never around Bayside.
