From AM-NY:
Anthony Weiner is going from politics to pots and pans by eyeing a nonprofit restaurant to help the Rockaways recover from Superstorm Sandy.
The ex-congressman, who has been volunteering in the neighborhood, will help oversee the project, which is in its very early stages.
In addition to providing residents with a new grub site, the "Rockaway Restoration Kitchen" will train unemployed New Yorkers in culinary skills that they can use for food industry jobs, the project's website said.
Weiner, 49, was listed as administrator for an idealist.org job listing for the group's executive director. The project, first reported by the Rockaway Times on Thursday, said Weiner, who ran for mayor last year, is still looking for a location.
Weiner declined to give details to amNewYork about his role with the kitchen but told the Daily News, "residents need help developing skills to lift them out of unemployment."
"This project is at the very earliest stages of trying to tackle these challenges," he told the paper.
The job listing expires on Aug. 31 and the group's website is still under construction. But it did list some details of the program.
Rockaway Restoration Kitchen will "provide a comfortable neighborhood restaurant with healthy, locally sourced food that satisfies the hunger of Rockaway residents." The 13-week training program will help unemployed residents, particularly those with barriers to job placement such as incarceration or disability, with hands-on cooking training and professional assistance.

A restaurant as a non profit WILL NOT FLY! Is he nuts?
What? No hot dogs?
Sure, kosher/ halal organic vegan dogs with Carlos Danger sauce and a happy ending.Imagine the marketing for "Danger Dogs"!
Will the restaurant serve Kosher or Halal meat?
Good luck to him on the venture. Hope we don't read about any scandal from it here on QC.
Anonymous, Please explain why it won't fly. Thanks.
Home delivery with the Wiener Hot Dog Truck?

Non-profits=shady businesses
wasn't mike grimm's health food joint also a non-profit
I'll give Carlos Danger the benefit of the doubt for the cool thing he said about the slow pace of rebuilding the boardwalk and only building where foodies were congregating when he was running for mayor
Weiner. Your 15 minutes are up. Get off the stage.
Still a parasite. Of course he declined to give details on how this is being funded because this is a scheme, not a restaurant.
If you want an example of a non-profit restaurant, try a public school cafeteria.
It won't fly because of the huge expenses involved with opening and operating a restaurant. 50% of restaurants fail in their first year. Who is going to fund this proposition? Weiner would have to apply for some major grants just to get things off the ground.

At least he's ATTEMPTING it. Much more entrepreneurial than I can say for most of the cradle-to-grave politicians, corrupt or not.
It's not about success. Of course it would fail. It won't even open. It's about Weiner getting good press.
You have to love "locally sourced food" in Rockaway. What would that be?
He would create a bloated non-profit where most of the money will end up going toward administrative and food costs.
Locally sourced food would include drippings from used beer cups and anything raked from the sand, with or without mayo.
Weiner is proof that turds float.
All done to keep his name and his wife in the public eye. His wife is Hillary's campaign manager.
but hey, if it gets someone a job, why not? His office was on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 91st Street and unlike other local elected officials he was accessible to constituents.
Weiner is going to spend your money in order to run this operation and take a salary to boot. This is how Not-for-Profits are run by former Pols in order to make money for themselves. Just Apply and get a grant from the City. It's a backdoor government job for these cretins who can't hack it in the private sector.
